I know I’m going to sound really old now (it’s only cos I am) but just watched the Gadget Show and it showed an “app” that meant that you could hold your mobile over some printed Spanish and it instantly translated it into English - Amazing!!

My Niece & BF have just got back from a trip to China where she said there were hardly any Europeans to be seen and hardly anybody understood English. They coped fine by using Google Translate.

The world is shrinking at a huge pace, it’s great

Re-reading this I suspect you youngsters will be unimpressed with all this stuff, this may be a very short thread :-/

But it's not all good. My sister went into panic when after a meal out with a crowd of us she couldn't find her "Tipulator" Ap to work out the tip lol ;D

Gerry - if you think that's good, watch this and see how far along Google translate will be shortly....

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode..._Joy_of_Stats/

You will be able to talk to someone in another country, each in your own language, but a chip in each phone will translate the speech in real time so you can understand.

Oh, and you will also find out the Norfolk has the highest percentage of bastards! (Sorry, that still amuses me)

    Gerry,
tecnology is increasing exponentially....im a mechanic by trade, who worked only 11 years ago on petrol engines with points and condensors! tuning carbs, when landrovers ran best at 9% co2 emissions!!!!......now we see petrols putting out 0.1% co2.
i was never going to use the internet, or have a mobile phone either.....

    what's next???.....

gonna be fun finding out :-)

Wait until nano technology really takes off!

Mind you, if you've read 'Prey' by Michael Chrichton, it might not be so cool...

Working in IT for the last 13 years we've seen so many changes, some kit that we buy/rent from specialist companies, the likes of SUN, IBM, UNISYS etc is ok and does what it says on the tin, some stuff we've had was about as useful as a chocolate fireguard and wouldn't be worth it's weight in scrap value either :-/
Only problem is we have so many differing technology platforms and some bright spark either doesn't do enough research or gets a nice back hander and we end up with kit that cant easily 'talk' to each other!
If we could only go back to writing everything in ledgers with pencil life would be so much easier! Having said that I work on a super duper fast mainframe that very rarely gives me any problems so I'm happy (for now, until someone comes along and tinkers with it > )
    It's Lilac... not pink!
