Before the people arrived the council men were out making things tidy..

    The crowds waied expectantly..

    A police car came......

A taxi and a van came......

Then we had a variety of police vans... the kids loved waving at them...

Then a vehicle promoting that well known kiddies health drink.

Then we had the convoy command vehicle..

There was a bit of a wait now but we did have umteen police bikes go thru as well...

Then we had the vehicle parade...

Bus full of resting security - those ones you see flnking the runner...

How did he get there? He was doing a roaring trade.

After another 10 minute wait we got a man on a bicycle and more cops on bikes.

    Finally......................

    A converted horse box...

    another cop on a motorbike.....

    Finally Finally...

I was at end of route so flame was transfered to the latern. Note the watchful security....

The man had his prize torch..

    and that was it!

When they go thru Calne only one of them is listed as from Calne. Yet I know of a Calne person who is running a leg in another town.. :-/

Hardly anyone is running in thier home town, seems a shame really.

We rambled up to Frome Rd from the office yesterday lunchtime to see it go through Trowbridge. Couldn't believe the amount of official vehicles & stuff going through ahead of the torch.

Lots of bike coppers from every force going between Devon & Cornwall through to the Met!

We could learn a lot from crayons; some are sharp, some are pretty, some are dull, while others bright, some have weird names, but they all have learned to live together in the same box.”

I was speaking with a council official today and apparently, due to security reasons no one was allowed to run with the torch through their home town. And all council staff who were stewarding the events were required to produce their passports.

Is it just me? - I don't really get the logic behind these measures - perhaps someone can explain?
