Traded my 2003 R1 in yesterday, replaced it with a 2005 R1 in blue. I'm completely in love with it already - bring on the summer!!

On paper, probably not. In real terms though, the riding experience is quite different.

My '03 had 22500miles on the clock and a carbon/Ti Akra system on it.

The '05 has 15000miles and is completely standard aside from a tail tidy. The standard exhausts are really quite loud considering they're standard, and pop and burble beautifully. There's also a fantastic airbox growl which simply wasn't there on the '03 (or I couldn't hear it over the pipe).

The riding position is also slightly different I think, though I can't be 100% sure as ive only ridden it once and I had a tailpack shoved down my jacket as I couldn't fit it on the new tail! LOL.

The brakes aren't much different, which surprised me as they're radials, but maybe they just need some use and/or bleeding.

The handling is very different ATM, in that it is MUCH slower to tip in to the bends, but my '03 was set up on track-oriented settings so tipped in really quickly. I'll reset all the settings to OEM (assuming they've been changed) and work from there.

Re power, it definately feels quicker than my '03 and it's much smoother and tighter.

All in all, very happy with it

Yup, I certainly plan to attend a ride or two mate. I see you also do a meet at the Polebarn Hotel - I work quite near there so might attend one of those meets sometime too

We could learn a lot from crayons; some are sharp, some are pretty, some are dull, while others bright, some have weird names, but they all have learned to live together in the same box.”
