Do you ride in the winter?
I was wondering how many of you ride all year round?
:( I must admit I don't ride much in the winter, I tend to use the car all of the time for work and no evening rides, just a ride out at weekends if the weather is good. I do spend a lot of time on maintenace and cleaning ect.
:) In the summer I take the Hog to work every day (unless it's raining) 2 or 3 times a week I ride in the New Forest in the evenings, and I am always out at least once over the weekends.
yeah, call me a wuss 8-) 8-)

Re: Do you ride in the winter?
Ride all year as haven't got a car licence. Riding in snow is no fun at all :(
-
Re: Do you ride in the winter?
When I started riding millions of years ago it was all year round including ice and snow. This year I'm planning on riding all year round except ice and snow.

I guess it does, I was just interested, as I intend to do a lot of work on the Hog through the winter, and also ill health (asthma) means it's not such a good idea to ride in the cold or wet. :'(
I remember one year riding home when a snowstorm started, after a mile or two I started getting a pain in the corner of my eye, only to find a build up of ice in the corner of my helmet ;D

Re: Do you ride in the winter?
i ride all year round not just fair weather there was one day last year that i couldn't ride due to ice the full length of the street but 1 day out of 365 is not bad

Re: Do you ride in the winter?
All year round on a Ducati!!!
-
Re: Do you ride in the winter?
All year round on the Bandit but the XS11 stays in the garage between October and March.
Heated grips and thermal clothing make dry cold winter riding more pleasurable. 8-)

Re: Do you ride in the winter?
All year for the last 3 winters. Probably not going to be making much use of the bike this winter. Should be getting a car allowance from work and the bike needs quite a few bits and pieces doing, so it looks like she's going up on a stand and I'll spend a couple of months doing it all.
-
Re: Do you ride in the winter?
Yep, all year too.......mostly just commuting to work. If it gets icy then I have to use the car - live at the top of a big hill!
-
Re: Do you ride in the winter?
I ride all year, even in ice and snow! I luv it!! :P ;D

Re: Do you ride in the winter?
All year, I get withdrawal systoms if I can't get out on the bike :-[

Re: Do you ride in the winter?
My bikes are insured all year round and I take them out when we have a nice day in the winter. I used to go to all the fuss of putting them away for 6 months but thanks to global warming, winters 'ain't like they used to be' and I don't think it's so necessary now. Besides, Wilts CC don't use much grit around here anyway so as long as you wash them off after a ride, I wouldn't worry too much.
As for riding every day in winter, well I don't have to cos I use the car or catch the bus. Bikes are kept in my lovely dry garage hooked up to an optimate. Rather that than a pile of rust come summer time.

Re: Do you ride in the winter?
All year riding here too - bikes are all taxed and insured for year round
Have no car licence, so ice/snow I avoid by using the bus for work.
With a grandchild on the way I might need to think about attempting to learn to drive one of those four wheeled monstrosities :P
(or finally get the chair attached to the old soupdream :o) wallace and grommit - here we come ;D

Re: Do you ride in the winter?
Yep, I ride all year round, the limitng factor being when I can't feel my fingers anymore.
-
Re: Do you ride in the winter?
I ride most of the year, only in the snow and Ice I do not venture out, last New Years Day my wife and I did a 200 mile tour just to get out and ride. She started to get cold by about lunch time but then i gave her all my warm kit and she was fine. I have a VFR800 with heated grips and the engine gives off too much heat so keeps the legs warm, it is only the tips of my toes that feel. it.

Re: Do you ride in the winter?

Re: Do you ride in the winter?
:'( Just wish mine was on the road!! At least I can freeze my balls off over the winter in the garage getting it fixed..... going to be a loooong winter, me thinks!!!
-
Re: Do you ride in the winter?
I have an excuse in that I'm currently living 100 miles away from the bike :P
-
Re: Do you ride in the winter?
Yep
All year round. Not sure how much I'll do on the MT-01 but will carry on riding my Bonneville. Currently I only weigh about 300lb so may need to put some more on for insulation purposes.
Did Cornwall (Newquay) in March & plan to do it again next year, but hopefully not in the cold & wet

Re: Do you ride in the winter?
Ridden bike daily for the past 5 winters...but got a feeling most of this one is going to be ice daily so time to resort to a car/train for work me thinks :(
-
Re: Do you ride in the winter?
It has got to the point I will have to put the inners in my suit now as I am just starting to feel it.
-
Re: Do you ride in the winter?
I passed my test last summer and promised myself that I would ride at least once a week through the winter, which I did. I've made the promise again this year and intend to keep that promise, bit chilly though sometimes!!

Re: Do you ride in the winter?
I tell you what good kit helps, as I had a pair Alpinestar gloves given to me for my birthday and they are so good that I can not feel my heated grips. So I will be saving up and buying new trs and jkts soon.
As at the mo I have no Car so the bike is the only transport.
