Help - wheel damaged by brick in road
My guardian angel was with me Tonight!
I was on the dark section of road between the BP petrol station (near the Warminster turn off) and Westbury and I hit a brick in the middle of the road!
Managed to keep control but my wheel is damaged (a large dink in it)
Is it possble to mend this? Any help would be appreciated!
Or is it a new wheel jobbie?
Re: Help - wheel damaged by brick in road
Jeez! Lucky escape by the sound of it, would think new rim needed as it could be stress fracture and crack on the next pothole/bump, wouldn't risk it personally.
Get your suspension/steering checked along with the rake to make sure nothing else has been knocked
Re: Help - wheel damaged by brick in road
You could get it fixed, but it'll probably be cheaper to get a good 2nd hand one to replace it TBH ...
Re: Help - wheel damaged by brick in road
Good job it wasn't on a bend
Re: Help - wheel damaged by brick in road
Good to hear you are ok and good luck at finding another wheel at reasonable cost.

Re: Help - wheel damaged by brick in road
New wheel required I think mate could have damaged the integrity of the wheel.
Re: Help - wheel damaged by brick in road
Blimey! That was lucky!
I'd get a new wheel. Will probably be the same price as the repair.
Re: Help - wheel damaged by brick in road
Thanks everyone - new wheel it is then.
I'll get hunting on the bay / scrappies....
It shook me up a bit ; but hey I'm O.K.

Hmm.....I put a small dink in my wheel.
£700 for a new one, £80 to get it straightened.
I got it straightened, but mine was small.

What bike is it ? I might have one :)

Don't you have special wheel on your bike though???
You can get most OEM wheel off of e-bay for very little.
Re: Help - wheel damaged by brick in road
www.motoliner.com done my wheel good as new £70

Stock Ducati monster (same as Jacde). There are a few of them around so I don't think of it as special.
It's the stock wheel.
The new price was something like £624 (that was early 2010 so could have gone up) but I think the bearing kit is about £40 then you have to add some labour.
Can't see any on ebay or elsewhere.
But please let me know if you find any (for future reference).
I'm sure you can get them cheaper for some brands but are you really saying a brand new wheel, plus bearing plus fitting is the same price as straightening?
Many charge about £50 for straightening although you need to take it off and put it on again.
Of course whether it's safe should override any cost decisions.
I never believed what Riders were telling me.
