Ron Haslem Race School
Hello all
Just thought i would let you all know that i sent an email to the school to say thanks for an awsome day. Please see bellow :)
Hi There
I would just like to say a massive thank you to all the staff involved in making my day so enjoyable. I was there on wed 18th of May and took part in the Premier course. I was introduced to my instructor for the day Joe Akroyd who was absolutely great and was getting me up to a good comfortable speed straight away so I could make the most of my time on the track.
It was all going so well in the first session until it started to get a little slippery and I touched the front brake and ended up dropping the number 2 bike going into stow and the bike ended up in the gravel, please accept my apologies and hope the damage was nothing to server but I have certainly learnt my lesson about breaking in a corner.
I would also like to thank the guys in pits firstly for checking I was ok after my off but mainly for letting me go out on the number 9 bike for my remaining 2 session as I thought that as I crashed it would be game over for me for the day. I was so pleased when he came over and told me I could go back out and im so glad he did. The 2nd session was good and I was learning to slow down a bit entering corners as instructed to do so by Joe. As for the 3rd session it all sort of fell into place and I felt so much more comfortable and confident on the bike and was getting most of the lines spot on, I even managed to get my knee down on the hairpin without even having to try to hard.
All in all it was a top day and I just wanted to say thanks to all of you, especially Joe for his instruction on and off the track.
I will be back again soon
Many thanks from all of us at Wiltshire Bikers
Cheers
Don Gillies

Re: Ron Haslem Race School
Well said Don. Hats off for shrugging off the slide, dusting yourself down and cracking on ;). I'm sure your off will only make you a better rider

Re: Ron Haslem Race School
Thanks to Moo for organising the day..
Big thumbs up to the ladies...Jackie (Jacde) for sticking with it and turning a terrified face into a big big smile, Irene (Charleyx) for the best riding buddy ever out on track, Sharon (Bindybo) for being top of the class!!!
Thanks to Scotty and Daytona Dog for taking lots of pics (didn't need to spend £20 on the professional one after all so you saved me some cash ;D)
And last but nooooo means least, for Don for managing to slide to the gravel before I ran him/his bike over ;D the sound of a bike flashing in front of my eyes followed by a body will never leave me...those RR brakes are s*** hot lol....Seriously, mucho respect to you for getting back on the bike on the next session and cracking on with it! :) :) :)

Re: Ron Haslem Race School
Yeah sorry about that star, that's one advantage of doing off road riding you learn to get up, dust yourself off and get back on. Cos if you don't you will be stranded on salisbury plain :)

Re: Ron Haslem Race School
After being nagged by Basil and inadvertently saving my bike from some gravel rash damage yesterday, I now have a little time on my hands so I'll post up a selection of pics from last week - I have literally hundreds so aside from the candid off-track shots I've limited it to one pic each of you on track...
The assembling throng, nerves jangling..

Re: Ron Haslem Race School
Great pics and seems like y'all had a great time ,grate for Don too.
I take it everyone uses a 'school' bike and there are 3 sessions in the day ?
What was the cost each as you were a group [bulk discount ? ] as a matter off interest ?

Re: Ron Haslem Race School
Sorry for the delay, but I have finally sorted out my photos from the track day. Below are some links to the albums on photobucket.
One is for the original uncropped version and the other I have cropped. Some are a bit blurred but I'd thought I'd leave them all on there for you all to view.
I happy to burn them onto disc for anyone who wants a copy of them. Don, I'll sort your disc this week I hope:

Re: Ron Haslem Race School
Looks like a great day! Can I ask what happens when you crash one of their bikes? Do you get billed for it, lose a deposit or what?
-
Re: Ron Haslem Race School
No there is no extra cost, it usually means that your day is finished but if your a really nice guy like me they just give you another bike and let you out again. I also ruined there leathers and had no extra cost for them either. Lucky for me or it would have been an expensive day.

You subsequently went out and bought a track bike yeah baby ;D ;D ;D ;D

Re: Ron Haslem Race School
That is quite cool actually thought there would be some huge costs involved! Looks great I really want to try a track day just to boost my confidence just the fear of wrecking my bike is quite strong :p
