Anyone in the Tidworth/Salisbury/Andover area got a micrometer accurate to 0.01mm I could borrow (or use on your driveway)? Just pulled 16 shims out of a spare engine and every single one of them is unmarked! :(

If you pop over to where you picked up the spare engine, Nigel does!
Sorry hadn't seen this , I have a mic and calipers that will do this in Melksham, free evenings until fri this week....
Hi Chris, I can bring one back from work if you want but will need it back quite quickly as used fairly regularly. If we're still up for a ride on the 14th you could measure the shims at my lock-up
Thanks Chris, but a bit premature. Not sure where the forum got by DOB from; right month, wrong date and thankfully year miles out, I may look 64 but a long way to go before I reach it
I've got one if you still need it.

Thanks for the offer Marm but I'll use Trev's as I'll be seeing him.
Any advice on buying my own? Are the cheap eBay ones any good?
Mines a cheap ebay one. It does what I need.

Chris, I've brought the micrometer home and will drop it at my lockup for you to check the shims with if you get out my way on Sunday, don't forget to bring them with you
When the shims are new the markings will be accurate; once used and subject to wear you should always measure them, irrespective of being able to read the original markings.
