Re: Started then Didnt start
Can't really help Jack, I don't have enough technical knowledge myself. Shame you couldn't of got out today though, it's been a great day for it. I was going to come over the Warminster myself today (a friend of mine works in Boreham Mill at 3TR FM) but turned around at Melksham.
Fingers crossed you can sort it out soon :)

Re: Started then Didnt start

Re: Started then Didnt start
I assume the solenoid... starter is turning over...
Might well be worth checking out side stand switch & rectifier If you only here a clicking noise then its possibly the rectifier or flattish battery8-)

Yeh the starter is turning over, just not firing up ,will have a try again tomorow with tthe stand ,and spray some wd40

Re: Started then Didnt start
Well had same problem on a 929 Blade turned out to be the Rectifier... So end up replacing both Battery & Rectifier (rectifier about 60 - 70 notes depending on bike of course).
Hope all goes well for you. 8-)

Re: Started then Didnt start
Have you tried bump starting it? As I had similar on a gixer and if I got it bump started it didn't come back for a few weeks so never bothered fixing it. Also make sure the battery is charged 100% in the current climate this can have the engine spin but not enough to fire up.
Might be wortwhile checking your spark pugs too
-
Re: Started then Didnt start
It might sound obvious but is there any fuel in it? Can you smell petrol from the exhaust when it was turning over? Does that model have a fuel pump?
Suggest - Remove the rider seat, unplug the ECU (black box) and reconnect it. On older bikes that sometimes works.

Re: Started then Didnt start
not tried bump starting ,

Re: Started then Didnt start
is a little odd jack as you road home from sally ok, was there a strong smell of fuel when you were trying to start it would expect this if it were ignition related, as scotty suggested worth checking the contents of the fuel tank, if it looks low switch over to reserve tap, if your sure the fuel is getting through then remove a plug as davey suggested,if your able to do this just rest the plug on the cylinder head/stud bare metal to ensure good earth and give the starter a few short bursts to check for a spark, watch you dont get a belt from the plug or ht lead if you have your hand on it :obest of luck
-
Re: Started then Didnt start
Ok,Got fuel as the tank is full ,and got most of it all over me when lifting the tank to get to the spark plugs lol, tryed testing a ht leed, but getting to them is diff as i gota get round the air box ,doing it on my own is hard ,realy need second pair of hands ,or will just have to take it to the shop :(

Re: Started then Didnt start
You havent acidently knocked the kill switch (done it myself) cause some bikes the engine will turn over but not fire up!

Give Bike Treads (Swindon) a call & ask for Gav (WB Member) I am sure he'll be of help.
-
Re: Started then Didnt start
I was gonna suggest engine kill switch too, is it in gear? some bike's wont fire if they are in gear!! As davey said try bump starting it first before you do anything, also check all the fuses in case one has blown.
Best of luck :)

Re: Started then Didnt start
Thanks for all the advice ,checkd all the usuall stuff, Got power to HT coils and fuel punp, but still think their is no spark ? couldnt see if the fuel pump was working as i had the fuel tank off, and no fuel to pump lol.
It will need someone that see's this sort of thing more often and know what they are doing,
Will try that No at Bike Treads see what they say ,
Just hope it dont cost alot,or the bike is staying at the garage till i can pay :'(

Re: Started then Didnt start
Let’s hope the repair bill is not to massive
-
Re: Started then Didnt start
Right ,had the call today ,and its got no spark to any plug ?
He said it could be anything and ask'd me how much am i willing to spend to get it fixed
Asking him wot he thought he just said WELL could cost anything from £100 to £500
so im stuck at the mo, i would of thought he might of had a better idea wy it was not getting a spark ,their aint that much to fault find on a bike ,,or is their ??
If anyone has any ideas ,would be great,,???? :'( :'( :'(
Any one got a 1995 zx6r so i can test the cdi ,, :(
-
Re: Started then Didnt start
try registering with www.mcnninjas.co.uk they might be able to help on there
-
Re: Started then Didnt start
yep with them allready
realy need to know wot is in the loop to create the spark,
as i dont realy want the shop to replace items and cost me a arm and leg, when i might be able to do it at half the cost :(
-
Re: Started then Didnt start
It could be the ignition timing, not sure if your model of bike had a distributer or a TDC pick up, they would be the first things to look at, then the HT leads and king lead, along with the ignition unit engine could also have lost it's earth.

Re: Started then Didnt start
jack not to clued up on the modern bikes but iam sure its not a £500 problem :oprobably a loose conection or some wet got in the ignition system somewhere was raining when you road home try this link it may help http://www.kawasakimotorcycle.org/fo...ont-spark.html wrong link try this one ;D
-
Re: Started then Didnt start
Ok any one know about bike electrics , that could help and test lol
Ps thanks Thunderbird
-
Re: Started then Didnt start
Check the coil pack, like thunderbird said probably got affected by the rain
-
Re: Started then Didnt start
someone posted this on ninja forum
No spark to any plug rules out coils, leads, plugs.
As it turns over that rules out kill switch, clutch switch, sidestand switch.
That leaves ignition pickup (rh end of crank) CDI or wiring somewhere.
Check connectors to RH switches, ignition pickup, CDI and ignition switch
Check Oil pressure light and neutral light are on as they are fed off same fuse
All lights work ..
-
Re: Started then Didnt start
based on the info you have posted i would look at the ignition pick ups i think they are refering to them as the igniters in the link i posted,do you have a manual for the bike jack if you dont have a multimeter just go through all the conectors and check they are nice and firm and free from corrosion also look for any splits or cracks in the wires insulation

Re: Started then Didnt start
Right, from the shop telling me i need a CDI unit and him telling me it would cost £100-150,
I have got it myself all for the sum of £40 :o
So if i need any other bits ,i think im gona do the work myself and get them at half the price he is giving me :-?
-
Re: Started then Didnt start
lets hope its only the cdi then jack £40 sounds alot better than £500
-
Re: Started then Didnt start
Yup,if it works tomoz could be at the sally tomoz night :-? or is that wishfull thinking
