A genuine BMW alternative?
Anyone see the pics of the latest offering from the boys from Hinckley in this week’s MCN?
Although I’m not really into big tourers, it’s still great to see Triumph moving back in to this area of the biking market. Apparently the bike has been under development for five years.
I really hope the British firm can now turn that into significant unit sales when the big new Trophy reaches showrooms later in the year. [smiley=thumbsup.gif]
Re: A genuine BMW alternative?
A pal had one of the old 1200's, i'd be in a racing crouch, whilst he was bolt upright at the side of me having a fag @ 80 on the motorway, barn door screen, and it rusted at the merest whiff of moisture.
Re: A genuine BMW alternative?
In fairness though Mitch, If more recent Triumph models are anything to go by, Triumph appear to have addressed the build quality issues. Stands back and heads for cover.
I'll reserve judgement, 'the proof of the puddin will be in the eatin.'

Re: A genuine BMW alternative?
I was valeting an '03 Trophy 1200 out in Oxfordshire today. It wasn't too bad corrosion-wise, a few brown nuts and bolts but that was it. Mind you, the rear end was caked in old Scottoil and it looked like it had had a few coats of ACF-50 as well.
Weighed an absolute tonne and looked like something from the 80's. While I was cleaning it I was hoping Triumph wouldn't make the new Trophy look 10 years out of date. From the pic above, I think they've done just that :(
Shame, as new Triumphs are some of the best finished bikes you can buy at the moment.

Can you make a huge tourer look up-to-date and sexy? :-/

I had a 1999 1200 Trophy when I first got back into biking. Fantastic bike, great fairing and large panniers even if you needed to put your gear in plastic bags inside.
Dont like the look of the new one (looks just like a BMW) but it does have shaft drive
