I may be able to do the 8th now...did some baby sitting at the weekend so have a trade card in my hand! [smiley=thumbsup.gif]
Too late to order a wreath from the royal british legion, any orders made now cannot be guaranteed delivered before remembrance sunday. Their factory is in kent I think, so it might be possible to pick it up, or might be able to organise an express delivery, not sure about the costs there. It may be that I can get a wreath from a local florist, will look into that. Will also enquire about express delivery costs.
If I can help, I have an Interlink account and would be happy to arrange for them to collect one and get it back to Westbury.
Think most towns have a small service & wreath laying at 11.00, Warminster do if that helps.
IMO it would be better to get an "official" one if possible, rather than from a local florist, as then at least some of the profit goes to the cause.
Cheers

I personally think stopping for a minutes silence shows respect for those who have lost their lives or have been injured in wars/conflicts. The money from the cost of a wreath could then all go to 'Help for heroes' along with donations.
UPDATE...
I've got one being delivered by the local branch of the Royal British Legion tomorrow morning.
I sent an email which has been passed on a couple of times and found a lady who lives round the corner, who is coordinating wreaths & poppy collecting tins.
Every year I mean to get one to put in the window of our reception, they are £18.00 - £20.00 (she's not sure).
Option 1, I can get two if you wish, one for the club.
Option 2, The club is welcome to use mine on the 8th and any donations could go to the RBL.
She did ask if we would like to lay it at the ceramony, but I said I wasn't sure yet.
Over to you...
G
PS... Not meaning to take this over Hunar, you're in charge mate ;)
Thats a nice idea Gerry and one I am happy to support, like you I will leave the final decision to Hunar.
No worries Gerry, I think option 1 is better as we get our own wreath and the money goes to RBL rather than to a florist. Let me know how much it costs as I will need to get the money to you.Quote:

I think Salisbury war memorial is a good place, plenty of space to park close to the memorial itself, so we will lay our wreath there.
We can make this run an annual event, so need a good name for it, I thought something like
1st Annual Heroes Run?
Ideas welcome as always.
Hunar
You will need to check parking close to the war memorial as they may close the roads close to it if they have any march in's and in general parking will used.
Kev
I'll order another this afternoon, they are £16.00.
Salisbury sounds good - but I suspect there will be quite a big ceramony there, so I also suspect they we may not be able just to ride there, place it and go, we ought to find out.
Cheers
G
As we are going to Compton Abbas surely there must be a war memorial there.
There is a war memorial at Shaftesbury just to the north and another at Fontmell Magna just south of Compton Abbas. either could be easier to access than Salisbury.
unable to find much info on the service in salisbury, with moving house I not really had much time to look. Perhaps one of the two memorials loud pipes mentioned would be better just in case?
Just my opinion...... This run seems to have got a bit mixed up with the remembrance day events.
I cannot see the point in a wreath, that money is needed to help our troops today plus the club has no real military connection - if you wanna show real respect then timetable the run so you stop near a memorial (well before 11) and stand together in silence for 2 minutes.
Remembrance is a lot about the old soldiers as well as the fallen. The old guys there will be well impressed that a bunch of bikers took the time to show respect.
Won't be any good going to Abbos after the remembrance as I presume a lot of old soldier types will go there.
I have used Zig-zag hill a few time for bike riding shots. Some bends are virtual walking pace.
First timers definately ought to ride up it first.
I will not stand on a corner and take pix till the subjects have ridden up and down the hill once - just so they know wot its like.
Basically the hill is quite short and its just the two hairpins at the start and top that are tricky......

Really good airial view, interesting bit of road.

Hi all,
I know I've only been on the Forum for a short while, but is there any info regarding timings for Sunday? I have a Rememberance Service to go to, which will last until approx 1130 and so should be able to get on the road by 1200. Hopefully you will all still be at Compton Abbas then so I can join you for something to eat/drink?
Ed
I will try and make this one [smiley=thumbsup.gif]
still working on the detail, but I would say probably a 9:30 - 10 am start.
getting a few worried messages about the bends on zig zag hill, and it putting people off coming a bit. After some thought I think it's quite probably better to leave zig zag hill for a later run with more chance of better weather. Having been out on my bike a fair bit, the leaves on the roads have caused me to slip a few times, and zig zag hill is lined with tree's, so it's fair to assume the roads will be covered in leaves, with the couple of slips recently I am not 100% sure how confident would be, let alone anyone else.
I will work out another route which will take us past a smaller memorial en route at about 10:50am (you know how accurate my timing is)
Oh and another piece of bad-ish news, the airfield is expecting large numbers this weekend, and cannot guarantee there will be room, so I will need to work out another stopping point, and suggestions will be welcome, but basically anywhere with a nice cafe or quiet pub would be good.
Gerry did you order us another wreath? if noty no worries I have a source for one, but if you have got one for us i won;t bother getting it.
Hi Hunar sounds a good plan to me I will be at the Sally for 9.30am still happy to act as back marker for this ride weather looks a bit off but it should be fun rain or shine.
Got one if you still want it.
Cheers
Gerry
9.30am at the Sally it is then, I will be leaving around 8.45am from the Rodbourne B&Q roundabout, if anyone wants to meet up there first from Swindon.
Any chance of a pick up at Warminster or there abouts?
I hope to still come weather depending.
Karlos,
Not on the way out, but assuming I am able to meet up with you all en route, I'll join you on the way back.

Hunar. You planning a pick up at Warminster Services?
Don't forget we are stopping off at a memorial this time.
It might make sense for you guys to join the ride there.
Stu, I can certainly meet you at Tesco's, I have a job to do before but hope to get to any meeting place by about 10.15, silly me forgot I was going on a rideout and agreed to work ::)
as the airfield is pretty much a no go I am working on a new route. Not sure about a pick up at warminster, if we leave at 10am we will get to warminster about 11 (thats normally the time) adn we need to be at the memorial for that time. I will need to work a route out and see what happens will try and work on that tonight
might be up for this if weather holds off
Should be able to go on this one. [smiley=thumbsup.gif]
Hunar,
there is a greasy spoon cafe in Shaftsbury, that does some very good food (fry ups, burgers etc, its dry and warm and will have room for us all) we stop there when we go offroading and theyre biker friendly.....
will chat to you before the set off if you like, if were still going this way???.....ta matey.
jaydee ,u going to the warminster serv or over to the sally for this ?
Hunar have you any idea where we are going yet if not to compton abbas
OK it's a bit late I know, but with moving house and not having the net at the new place yet it's not been as easy as I would have liked!
Firstly we need to make sure that we are at the memorial about 5 - 10 mins before 11am, I have tried to find information on services being held on Sunday, but I have not had a great deal of time, and couldn't find anything, although I do agree it's very likely the will be a pretty large on at Salisbury. Have found the one in Shaftesbury, so have agreed it's a better idea to ret there instead.
As you probably well know, my timing for arrivals isn't always that accurate, and from previous experience, if we leave the sally at 10am we meet up in warminster about 10:40 - 10:50, I still think that 10:20 - 10:30 pick up at Warminster should be fine though, but it won't be a stop, it will be a ride past and everyone joins in, cos if we stop it will 10 - 20 mins before we start again once we all said hi and had a smoke.
So the plan is (yeah I know, "Hunar has a plan, this can onyl go badly!"), we leave the sally dead on 9:45 (we won't wait so make sure you're there), ride to warminster, DON'T STOP and the people there merge in with the ride, carry on to the war memorial, where we be placing the wreath and a having a minutes silence (or is it two minutes? I have heard people mentioning both), after that Jaydee mentioned a cafe close by we can visit for some hot food and drinks, then I thought a brisk round trip back to the sally via salisbury and devizes.
will add this to the main post!
sounds good to me, if the weather is ok i will be along, will be at warminster for the merging lol, will meet stu and rosie where ever they decide, will look again later, or if rosie can drop me a text, that will be good :) :) :)
