Chicky and I met him at the Kempton Park autojumble earlier in the year, had a quick chat, a selfie and he signed a copy of his big glossy autobiography - an interesting read (pardon the pun), and good to learn more about one of our most successful, but overlooked racers. Never as popular as Hailwood, nor Sheene though he was far more successful, Read’s career doesn’t get the recognition that it deserves. When he offered to sign the book he did point out that he won’t be around forever, proving that his sense of humour remains, while the rest withers...
