Daytime M.O.T ?

Hi there im hoping to get a road legal track bike but im unsure on what your bike needs to pass a 'daylight mot' . Am i right in thinking all it needs is road legal tyres and horn ? Any help would be much appreciated thanks

I would recommend having a chat with your local specialist bike tester as opposed to a car tester who does bikes.
road legal tyres definitely, buy a 2nd pair of wheels , some tracks also require road legal tyres. infact some race classes demand road tyres so always useful.
squeezy bulb horns were used but no longer passable as need to be a constant note , Ive used bull frog horns with 9v battery but some testers don't like them as not powered by the bike itself.

A mate has a R6 trackbike which he uses on the road. The tyres have to be road legal, and a number plate, not sure if a horn is needed, I will ask him tomorrow, that's about it really.

AFAIK you present the bike for a normal MOT test. You'll get advisory notices about the lights saying you can only use it on the road between sunrise and sunset and can't use it when visibility is poor.

The way I read the testers' manual is that to get the exemption from inspection on lights you can't have any at all (i.e. can't have just a brake light fitted for added safety when on the road as then you'd be expected to have all the others too and fail).

Horn needs to emit a continuous, uniform, constant note, not be harsh or grating, and be loud enough for other roads users to hear it.

From the small amount I have read on the matter, expect attention from the plod when using it on the road and have your documents with you.
They may not be familiar with the finer details of The Road Vehicles Lighting Regulations so the bit you're interested in is 'Regulation 4 (3) (a)':
"Nothing in these Regulations shall require any lamp or reflector to be fitted between sunrise and sunset to–
(a)a vehicle not fitted with any front or rear position lamp,"

^ pretty sure you don't need the speedo for MOT (but do need it to be road legal with C&U)

you're not allowed any lights including a brake light which i think is rather dangerous. Speedo isn't needed either, i've not had one on my bike for 3 years and it's passed a full test every time. However, plod can have you for it as said above. I've not been pulled yet and i run open pipes.

You can fit a brake light then tape over it for the Mot. In terms of speedo, Gps bike computers are cheap enough and accurate enough.
