I'm sure someone will have asked this before but as a new member I'd be interested to learn what would be people's top 10 list of bikes, firstly that they've owned, and secondly that they'd like to own?

The only bike I'd really like would be a Suzuki GSX1400 that hasn't been f****d about with. An FE would even be more desirable. Been looking for years and not found one yet.

I'll keep an eye out but make no promises !

Pauls got a GSX1400 @ Cridge autos in WB, it is absolutely mint, he hasn't ridden it in years, with his back issues, i don't know if he'd part with it. The only non std bits are the two bros exhausts, it looks brand new.

Already got the MT-01. Would love a Van Veen or Katana 1100

I had to Google those Kevin. I guess they're not easy bikes to find, either for the right price or in good condition.

The bike I always wanted when I was younger was an RD350, I can't believe how much they sell for now !
That would definitely be one for my 'teenage memories' category bike collection, that and a Z1300.

My want list

Enfield Bullet
VFR NC30
ZXR 400
GSXR750 SRAD
GSXR1100
ZX7R
ZZR1100 (D)
HD Soft tail classic
RG 500
ZRX 1200

Unfortunately good examples of many on that list are going up in price

Very sporty list WR6133. I like the look of the ZRX 1200.

Is that the new 500 Bullet?

Yes, complete with EFI and leccy start. I had the chance to ride another members one recently and while on paper it should be awful, from the moment you start it to the moment you get off, it makes you grin like a kid in a sweetshop.

You may need to recalibrate your right wrist to take into account the lower rev limit on the Bullet compared to your ZZR, that other member had to add a bit of oil to his Bullet motor after your 'test ride' ; )

I did consider buying one of those as my first bike, they look good and are extremely cheap.

The only thing that put me off was the power, or lack of.

Some I've had, some I have and some I want, and some I can't fit on - it's an ever changing list though ; )

Suzuki X7
Suzuki PE400
Kawasaki KE175
Suzuki GSXR1000K1
Suzuki GSXR1100K
Moto Guzzi Griso
Honda Africa Twin - the new, yet to be released one
Suzuki GT550
Yamaha XVS950
Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R

:( I only bounced it off the limiter twice (possibly thrice)

Trev, I had a feeling your list might be X'er heavy.

I remember the KE175 well, and like those. I've read good things about the Africa twin, and dare I say it not being a huge fan of beamer's I'd have one of those all day long.

I think it's great that people's list constantly change.

RD350 - purely teenage desire

Triumph Tiger T110 - because my Dad had one

..Then I need to give it some more thought, it's like favourite tunes, subject to frequent change.

Yup they certainly have (or don't have) that, wouldn't recommend one as your only bike unless your not interested in getting anywhere quickly! Would make a great commuter 10/20 miles as easy to chuck about, low weight & seat, comfortable and 75mpg wringing it's neck, 85mpg+ without trying too hard.

That's what I use mine for, wife loves it as pillion even though it only has a detachable pillion pad - she has a small bum! Also great for riding the back lanes in the muck and crap and is perfect for this time of year, it doesn't have much value to lose by not being cleaned very ride, ACF50 in October, the odd hose down during the Winter and a good clean & lubricate in the Spring - don't buy a used Enfield of this man ; )

Where to start? Let me put this way. Stick a kid in a chocolate factory, tell him/her to take his/her pick and and he/she would probably try them all. RD400 would be my first choice, a GT750 from the 70s would be in my top 10 as would be my current steed, an FZ1 Fazer. Not forgetting ultimate grin factor for short blasts, a KTM 690 Duke and BMW RR1000. And my Dad's favourite bike a Vincent Black Shadow, which I would take to the Isle of Man like he did. Finally, as already mentioned a KE175 Kawasaki to rekindle my youth lol.

FE1-E wasn't that a slower version of a Suzuki AP50?

Really?

I did 'Traffic Education' at secondary school and they had a couple of AP50's, didn't seem that quick.

My mates fizzy used to keep up with my other mates H100, and was quicker than my DT50.

Can an AP do this though... https://youtu.be/_zjI_T3f6Yg

My first bike was an R plate AP50 which my father and I put back together after the previous owner adjusted the front end with a car. It would out drag the local FSIE's of the time and that's with me being a rather porky 16yr old!

It's possible the ones they had at my school were restricted, and also possible that my mates fizzy was doctored

Highest speedo reading on my modded AP50 (changed gearing, ported, jetted, air filter, skimmed head, modded exhaust) was 69mph down a friggin' great long dual carriageway hill, flat on the tank, slip streaming a van. Nipped up as the van driver went for the magic 70 and had to whip the clutch in and coast off the conveniently placed slip road before restarting it and riding home a very rattly 'ped. Yet another top end rebuild!
On a level road with little wind, top speed (according to the speedo) was 57/58 on a good day - obviously this was with your chin on the speedo and feet on the pillion pegs but then that's how they were ridden practically everywhere ; )

That appears to be £800 for a rear light, handlebars and front mudguard!

A quick gander on fleabay, motorcycle parts "AP50" suggests you'll spend almost that again on parts + whatever paint costs.

Probably a lot less grief and not much more £££ to buy one already done

Or this fresh off the boat from Japan, costs less and needs less work http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Suzuki-Colleda-50-K50-Japanese-Home-Market-AP50-Just-Imported-Direct-From-Japan-/161750622792?hash=item25a916a248:g:GQgAAOSwPcVVk9D s

That's not a bad price.

I was looking at a fizzy on gumtree, tidy, but they were asking £3750 !!!

That's not a bad price.

I suspect the bent front end would become a pain in the bum to sort. NOS stanchions are not that pricey (circa £70 for a pair) but the upper bits I couldn't find with a (brief) search.

I'm very cynical, if it was an easy fix then the dealer would have done it, UK registered + MOT'd it and sold it for a lot more.

If I had the money to invest right now I'd try to predict what the next nostalgia wave will be, buy cheap now and sell it on when they rise. I reckon stuff along the lines of RS125/NSR125, lovingly restored and kept in your sitting room for another decade could pay off.

As a relatively new rider, theres LOADS of bikes I want to have a ride on, but if I was to own a bike to live with day to day, I'm definitely looking at the Tracer as a replacement for the Transalp.

Though I'm not keen on owning one (my back wouldn't take it) I'd love to have a go on the RC213, though after Marquez's lie about Rossi kicking him, and Honda's subsequent support of that lie, I'll never buy another honda Till Marquez is gone.

My brother owns a Tracer and it is an all round awesome bike in every area. It is an upright riding position which suits me, but I know it is not everyone's cup of tea. The bars are adjustable forward and aft and the seat is easily lowered to fit the rider. At the end of the day, the proof of the pudding is in the eating. I would certainly not rule out a test ride on any of the MT09 variants, and especially the Tracer version if I was considering buying an all rounder do anything well machine pluggedinpete. Without being disrespectful to the Transalp, which is a great bike in its own right, the Tracer can really shift, and is a hell of a jump in power compared to the Honda.
