Not sure if anyone on here is interested, but I've been reading up on another forum about these cheap £35-50 GoPro clones that are available on Amazon and eBay - the main ones are SeCAM SJ4000's though if you search eBay there are even clones of the SeCAMs now.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SJ4000-Black-12MP-HD-1080P-Car-Cam-Sports-DV-Action-Waterproof-Camera-HOTSELL-UK-/201215773743?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item2ed9650c2f

The feedback on other forums and review sites are that they're just as good as the GoPro and at that price it's less of a heart attack if they fall off and break. YouTube videos done using them look great, and they come with loads of mounting accessories.

Might be of interest to anyone wanting a helmet cam or camera to strap to the bike

May look at one of these for a secondary one to mount to my bike keeping my expensive Contour as my helmet cam.

I think their 1 big difference is no external mic option, so any aspiring boring-loggers can't natter over the video.

I have one of the even cheaper ones http://www.banggood.com/1080P-Car-DVR-W108-Sport-Camera-Recorder-Dash-Cam-HDMI-Novatek-p-943732.html . Not the best quality but enough for my purposes. Here's an example video filmed at 720p, it does 1080 but the quality is not a lot better so I go for the smaller file size https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MkzBGMuUAc8

This site is better for buying the SJ's http://www.banggood.com/Wholesale-Sport-Camera-c-3250.html . It tells you the hardware/chip/sensor/whatever it is, in the listings so you know if it's a "fake" or not.

Looks ok, gopro are doing a basic version for £99 now, and you can always get mounts on the bay.

The basic one as far as I know is the original gopro so the hardware probably isn't as good as these cheap ones.

Probably not, but the build quality will be better, the cheaper ones look pretty good, but it states not to be left in direct sunlight, which cant be much good.

I got a cheap Sunco for £70. Really impressed with it.

I think the basic model go pro has a fixed battery which will limit its life, if I splurged 100 notes I'd rather the SJ with its removable battery.

There's a Chinese seller on ebay selling the sjcam sj4000 plus 2 spare batteries for £52 at the mo, not bad!

Mine arrived today along with certificate of authenticity to show it's a proper SJCAM one. Will have a play at the weekend if I manage to get out on the bike :)

Was it the same one as in the first post link?

It was this one mate, slightly more (I offered £57 and got it) but it came with a proper authenticity thing so it's definitely the better quality one

Going to fit it to the bike at the weekend and have a play :)

A lap of Castle Combe taken with the SJ4000 last year. YouTube downgrades the quality, the actual quality is better. My screen is very dark.

Yes, it was in the waterproof case and mounted just in front of the tank

Mine arrived today. I paid a bit extra for the wi-fi and the extra battery from the same supplier as Dabz.
First impressions are good although I spent 30 minutes trying to work out how the multitude of attachments worked.
Definitely worth a punt.

My Mrs stole my cam to use as a dashcam (well that's what I say, she would say she put it to better use). Upshot is she got me an SJ4000 as an early Birthday present. Just took it for a test run, waiting for a clip to upload and I'll post it here. First impressions watching the raw video is the image quality is better than my old cheaper cam, you can easily read number plates from screen grabs, sound quality though is worse, it gets really bad wind noise once you get to 50-ish. I mounted it to the side of my lid and you become quite aware of the fact it's sticking out there once you pick up speed too.

Ion Pro are pretty decent... Mounted one on my lid. Not bad, not bad at all...

There's the clip http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nv6uoem3MxI it's filmed at 1080 so for best effect set the player to that and fullscreen, youtube seems to have chewed the quality a bit though the raw video was a lot better.

Not bad, the greens look over processed, it could be youtube pull down. Ah The Ram many a drunken night and girls...

Ah The Ram many a drunken night and girls...

Despite living a 2 minute walk from it the last time I went there was the night before I left the army in late 09, vague recollection of upending the pool table. It's (tried to) reinvent itself as a foodie pub recently. The Crown in Lugdershall was always a bit better for beer prices and skirt.

In the raw video the greens and blues are a little off. The sky looks like a summer day on Cyprus.

I haven't been to the crown in years. Used to go out with a girl that was a barmaid there - she turned into a psycho, I dodged a bullet there. Yeah agreed about the skirt. The girls in the ram were a bit like mopeds, fun to ride but you wouldn't want your mates to see you on one.

Blues looked alright to me. try a bit of colour correction.

Just got back from Meribel and tried out my new SJ cam.
The camera is pretty good but the suction cup mount needs improving. :-D

That looks pretty good on my note. Where did you get these cams? Sky looked a lovely blue.

I've yet to own any suction mount (cam, satnav, etc) I'd trust, they always seem to fail at the most annoying time! I've been using the sticky pad on my lid (along with the wire rope) and it has held firm at triple figures (though you really notice there is something sticking off the side of your lid at speed).

That ain't half bad. The whites are clipping probably some kinda exposure compensation processing. Looks pretty good. I've subbed your channel.
