In fairness, some BMW models are known to have issues with their ABS. Maybe their brakes were malfunctioning which would cause an involuntary jerk to the head. :)

They would have been Boxer twins like mine, the way the pistons move, your head gets pushed from side to side. We wouldn't nod or wave to crotch rocket riders voluntarily.
