So it seams i need my Suzuki Sv650 re-jetting, Carb sync and general tune up.... All because of my new exhaust!

After a bit of research on where to take my bike i ended up calling JHS Racing in keynsham who are suzuki specialists. For a re-jet kit fitted and tuned with an advised air filter upgrade i was quoted nearly £480! Does this sound about right?? The bikes a 2002 and only has 4000miles on the clock, can a simple slip on exhaust make such a cock up?

Anyone recommend any other local companies to try??

Cheers Jamie

Do it yourself.

Main jets cost around 3-4 quid each, pilot jets around a fiver, tuning/syncing do it by eye for free or get all fancy and buy some vacuum gauges for around £25. Air filter upgrade I assume they mean cone/k&n style filters, again DIY for around £10 per filter.

So even if you buy some fancy vacuum gauges you are still saving a bit over £400 on what the garage wanted

You could probably do the air filter yourself, or buy one and take it with you for fitting, try www.timblakemoreracing.co.uk for a comparable price, at least you will know if you are in the right sort of price range.

Give Keith at Master-Tech a call in Devizes, he used to tune my CBR 600 F, and looks after my Triumph

Sounds dear to me but depends on how radical the exhaust is - what does the manufacturer of the exhaust recommend?

Who told you that you need all this work done?
It's rare that a slip on would require it being done.

Hi Jamie, WB is right this does seem odd. I would suggest you checkout the exhaust manufacturer's website to see what they say. I replaced the stock end can on my FZ1 with a Scorpion 2 years ago without any mods and never had any problems.

If the replacements are considerably more free flowing he will need to rejet. I suspect the place said about the filter as they figured you may as well do that as well before you rejet as if you do it after you would need to rejet again. I had to upjet 10% on my bike when I did pipes (baffleless) and filters.

He can tell if he needs to easily by checking the colour of the plug if the bike is running lean (or rich) this will reveal that.

480 quid though is lunacy like I said earlier about £80 even if he has to buy the vacuum gauges, add to that 2-3 hours (maybe less if it's easy to get the carbs off an SV) to do the work and another half hour or so to do a plug chop to check it's all good. As the garage won't need to get gauges they are charging about £430 labour for what will likely take them under 3 hours.
