Just got back from Bath. Avoid the A4 at all costs!

Shocking road anyway but that specific Z Bend used to cause me no end of problems on my way to work. Knowing the councils lack of planning its probably still peppered in pot holes too?

GWS whoever it was!

Someone was knocked off their bike in Bristol yesterday morning not far from the airport on the A38. Someone pulled out, either pushing them or making them swerve into an oncoming car, details are sketchy, got air-lifted to hospital and it doesn't look good. In rush hour traffic so must have only been doing 30-40mph.
Sad reminders on how vulnerable we can be and the need to ride safe.

...and another this morning on the A4 between Chippenham and Calne by the Saab garage in rush hour. Ended up with the bike being squashed between the back of one car and the front of another :(

What's going on? It's tricky to say who is to blame as sometimes its down to bad riding or bad driving... we've had wet roads for ages, might be sun low in the sky or just a bad average.

Unfortunately the guy that got air-lifted to hospital in Bristol didn't make it and passed away late last night. He worked at the same place as me, the other drivers involved also work here... :(

IMO The state of the roads is a big contributor to accidents. That particular piece of road is in a terrible condition.
The people in charge of the highways should be hung

Yea, I ride very slowly not for safety just that the kit is so bloody expensive if you bend it !

We came across a smack on the Locking Road into Weston today.

The rider suffered only a broken ankle but judging by the mess his bike was in was a very lucky boy.

With so many potholes it's easy to concentrate more on the road surface than the other road users :/

Well, Last Train, this is good news indeed. I'm lad to hear the rider came off lightly .... bikes are replaceable, but alas, bikers aren't. Richard
PS I wish him a speedy recovery ...

Very true but drivers also need to be off their phones and be concentrating on their driving.

All very sad news. I'm not speculating on the causes of any of the accidents reported on here, but I could not agree with you more James with regard to the potholes. Have you noticed the rut (more of a crater) on the Beckington roundabout. A biker who was not familiar with the roads would do well to stay upright if he hit it. The state of the roads from the floods is certainly going to be an unwelcome additional hazard for bikers to contend with this year. Cuts in road repair budgets represent a false economy as more of the allocated funding for remedial work gets gobbled up in compensation claims. My thoughts go out to the biker's family RIP.

Yup the one on the beckington roundabout is bad enough in the car - really jolts me every morning unless I manage to avoid it!

Hey guys, the guy who crashed on the bath road was unfortunately myself.

Ive got 2 broken wrists, 1 broken arm, 9 broken ribs, 2 cracked vertebrate(spell?), punctured lung, liver and kidney, but im on the mend!

Was just unfortunate timing by myself and the van driver. Sadly my 13 plate xjr1300 burned out, but luckily im ok . Which sadly cant be said for the rider who died in a more recent accident :(. RIP, Thoughts are with his friends and family.

Gutted to hear about the bike, the XJR1300 is gorgeous. Do you plan on getting another one when you've recovered? I hope it hasn't put you off 2-wheels

thanks for the kind words guys, went to overtake some traffic after the bend going down the hill. Hit a car as it turned right, we didnt see eachother so i guess it was just bad luck :(

luckily i wasnt going fast, impact was estimated to be around 40mph. When i hit the ground i was pinned under the bike, which luckily i was dragged from as it burst into flames shortly after!

Heres the poor girl.
