Looking forward to the new season and the rule changes, should be interesting and hopefully that German won't win all the races

YE GODS!!
They sure are UGLY!!!

Interesting new look!

I'm still fully expecting Red Bull to dominate, but the new rules will add a lot of unknowns to the start of the season. Great to see Kobyashi back even if he's driving for free..he deserves a paid drive in my eyes. Hoping Maclaren can do more this season with Whitmarsh gone too

The new nose look like hoover ends!

Do like the new colour scheme of the Force India though. Hopefully Paul Di Resta will do well, but not holding my breath on that one.

Dabz
25-01-14, 04:49 PM
Di Resta didn't get a drive this year mate, he was dropped and nobody else wanted him, so he's doing DTM instead of F1..so yeh, don't hold your breath ;)

Nice!

Really interesting use of aerodynamics.

I was lucky enough to get to Monza last year and even though Vettel dominated the locals went nuts when Alonso got a podium.
Be good to see if the rule changes mix it up this year.

Love how Ferrari have called theirs F14T

Senna(Dan)
25-01-14, 10:02 PM
Dabz, they have called it F14T because I do believe the team is majorly backed by the same company.

Dabz
26-01-14, 10:19 AM
That was my point - Ferrari and Fiat are the same company :) it's a very clever name!

I'm a Mclaren man, but was left feeling very disappointed last season. I'd pretty much given up all hope by the third race. What they were thinking when they hired Perez I have no idea.

I liked Mclaren more when they were an all-British team, and was hoping they'd sign Di Resta this year as he was excellent last season, but unfortunately not.

I'm hoping the cars are a lot more competitive this year. Red Bull and Vettel are making the sport boring, and I didn't even watch most of the races last year because of it.

I'm a Kimi fan but not a Ferrari fan. Not really happy that he's going back there again.

Dabz

I've always been a Mclaren fan, but no constructors since 2008 hasn't been easy, and the fact they're still without a major sponsor for this year makes me really worry. They seem to have a lot of faith in this rookie they've signed, but I preferred it being an all British team too.

Having said that, 2015 could be good with Honda engines again and rumours of Ross Brawn..that could be the making of Mclaren..maybe

This reminds me of something that happened a few years ago.

I was in a builders merchant and heard the staff chatting about GP.

"I've always been a Mclaren fan but I hate Alonso. I don't want him in my team!"

I turned around expecting to see Ron Dennis but instead was confronted by some fat cow talking with authority about something she clearly knows nothing about.

You hear a lot of this kind of thing these days and I must say I don't like it.
Infact it's killing the sport.

F1 is one of the few sports that the teams don't require fans to support them.
The "fans" should have no say in who drives for what team and I think it's ridiculous that they believe they should.

You only need to look at the Premiership to see what happens when you let the marketing men and accountants take the helm.

Personally I dont care who wins. I just want to see a good race!

Dabz

Sorry are you comparing me to a fat cow talking authoritatively about something I know nothing about?

I've followed f1 fanatically since I was about 8, so almost 25 years. What is wrong with a fan worrying about his team being without major sponsor, therefore without the financial stability required in a very expensive and money-driven sport? Or having pride in an all British team that over the years has seen considerable success but has struggled in recent seasons.

I'm confused why you take exception to fan discussion

Moving on, mclaren didn't manage to get their car running today at the first day of testing which is a shame. Kimi looks settled :)

Swanny
28-01-14, 07:32 PM
At the moment the new cars are 10 seconds slower than last years

Kimi Räikkönen marked his return to Ferrari by setting the pace on the opening day of pre-season testing at Jerez. The Finn delivered a best time of 1:27.104

The leading lap time at the end of the first Jerez test day last year was a 1:18.861, set by Jenson Button. The fastest of the test was Felipe Massa's 1:17.879.

Dabz

Don't forget none of them are doing performance laps yet, the new cars need reliability testing first. Decent times will come :)

I'm confused as to why you take exception to me telling a story about someone you don't know and have never met.
I didn't make any comparison between you and her whatsoever.
As I said, your post about Mclaren merely reminded me of this story.

Unfortunately though you've just referred to Mclaren as being your team.
You cant be classed as a true supporter unless you go to all their home races and have the replica kit including the away one! 😄

Also Bruce Mclaren wasn't British. He was a Kiwi. Just sayin'

I'm just really missing the sound of the old engines - been watching testing in Jerez. It's not too bad when they're running at full throttle but at slow speeds and in/out of the pits they sounds like a chavved up Nova with a cheap mahoosive exhaust welded on

I worked at Williams Grand Prix Engineering at Grove when they were relocating from Didcot, I made all the Spiral fire escapes, What a place... machine shops with polished floors, everything immaculate and in it's place..very impressive.
My favourite was a garage on site with Mansell and Senna's cars parked in... magical...Also in a corner of an outbuilding, there was a complete nosecone complete with red No 5 on it... as a lifelong Mansell fan, I would have loved to take that home.. one of the most enjoyable jobs I have ever had in 34 years as a welder / fabricator.

What do you reckon.... Ricciardo for the championship???

New cars sound rubbish, my car sounds better than them

Dabz
16-03-14, 11:51 AM
I don't like the engine sound but love the turbo hiss, and being able to hear tyre squeal is great

I fancy Rosberg for the championship. Magnussen is simply brilliant too, what a driver - a future world champion for sure

Swanny

Ricciardo lost his 2nd place

The sound is a big problem, a lot of people are pissed off about it, it's being addressed
http://www.gpupdate.net/en/f1-news/307906/australian-gp-says-sound-breached-contract/

They just don't sound like racing cars. Watching the race was very strange, it was as if the sound had been turned off

“I've had one or two promoters get in touch with me today and they said how unhappy they are,” added the 83-year-old in a separate interview with Reuters. “I spoke to [Ferrari president] Luca di Montezemolo just now and Luca said he's never had as many emails on his desk complaining and saying this isn't Formula 1.”

They don't want to lose promoters and their money.

“I was not horrified by the noise. I was horrified by the lack of it,” Ecclestone told ESPNF1.com. “Ron is right with regards to their contract. And I was sorry to be proved right with what I've said all along; these cars don't sound like racing cars.

“I've been speaking with Jean [Todt, FIA president] this afternoon and what I've said is that we need to see whether there is some way of making them sound like racing cars. I don't know whether it's possible but we should investigate. I think let's get the first few races out of the way and then maybe look to do something. We can't wait all season. It could be too late by then.”

The sound is a very big part of F1. Just hearing an old F1 car starting up was enough to get you excited, these things sound about as exciting as a Ford Mondeo

Very interesting feature on sky f1 about merc's engine too - they're the only team to put part of the turbo at the front of the engine which is where their advantage has come from
