Seriously thinking about getting one I seen in Fowlers ..F4 RR /2011/ 2500 miles. Got a ride on it Saturday ..nice :)

I am homeless 'sniff' so could get this but I am asking myself ..'really!!! what d'ya want it for ???... few sunny days and using too much money on a bike that won't get the mileage my current one gets.

But always liked the look of them - style wise...quite simply I think they are a beautifully crafted machine. In reality it would be pretty much my last chance to have one but is it worth it ???....

....there again you are only here once apparently!!!!

New ones are now £15000 so is £10000 for a 2011 now too much ???? maybe it is...I don't know..anyone want to comment...would help :)

Also ....... the price has reduced by £1000 to what Fowlers paid as trade-in on it as it has been in showroom since September with nobody taking it.

Even if I had it for a year or two would I be able to sell it as Fowlers have not yet found a buyer .... would I be lumbered with something I would have to virtually give away to sell it when the time came ??? You don't see many around and a small manufacturer so a limited buyer market I guess anyways :(

So I am in a bit of turmoil over this  heart says 'yes' but head says 'no'

Any opinions/comments/ words of advice ....all gratefully recieved :D can't see how to put a poll up about this.

If you've got the cash, work out how much you would be prepared/could stand to lose if you had to sell and then go with your heart!

Having said that, personally I wouldn't go for it as the MV is a bike that would only get minimal mileage from me and although pretty not one that 'rocks my boat'. That's the great thing about bikes, so subjective and personal taste is a huge part of each decision on which bike to go for - otherwise how the hell would Harley Davidson do so well ; )

If you accept that whatever bike you go for (apart from ultra low cost commuter/scooter/ped) is a heart over head decision as any decent modern car is cheaper to run than it makes it easier to go the whole way with 'heart wins' and get whatever bike you want!

Where you gonna get parts from if you need then?

Guy I know bought a very nice looking Laverda.
generator packed up and it took over a year to get the parts.

Personally, I don't get to ride my bike as often as I would like and I would be pretty miffed if, when the opportunity arose to go for a ride, that it was out of action.

Not my cup of tea but you'd likely not like my dream bike list

If you have the cash and really really want it then why not. Sure you could spend the money on something sensible but are you then going to spend years wishing you had bought the bike, better in that case to buy it and have your fun/dream, if it doesn't work out sell it on take the loss and be content knowing you have ticked an item off your life list.

But always liked the look of them - style wise...quite simply I think they are a beautifully crafted machine. In reality it would be pretty much my last chance to have one but is it worth it ???....

Hi Col it's the guy with the hat that floats here ( from a previous life when it was really hot and sunny eating ice cream at Tintern Abbey ) ;) Thought that you hadn't had the Blackbird long and that you were really enjoying it . If you can do the MV easily financially then go for it, as you say you're only here once. But reading your post it seems like your gut is talking you out of it , there seems to be more cons than pros and you already appear to be concerned about the re-sale value . You haven't bought it yet and already you're thinking about getting rid of it ! Not at the top of the list of criteria when buying a bike you are passionate about , I'd say IMHO . A bike like that is a pretty special secondary machine if you have plenty of greenbacks and sits in the garage and gets nurtured and spoiled and comes out when the conditions are right , a bit like driving a Mondeo day to day and pulling the cover off the Morgan now and again to go down to the coast for an ice cream  Try to imagine how long the gratification would last . I think it was SennaDan on here once had an issue with his MV headlamp setup failing the MOT and a new unit was going to set him back £300-£400 !!! Tried to find his thread to give you the link but couldn't . Hopefully He'll be along soon to give you some more specific technical advice . Sensible , rational and logical bollocks aside , when I bought the Bonny in a Triumph dealership in St Austell I met a bloke in his late sixties who was just about to sign the paperwork on what he called his Bucket Bike ( as in bucket list ) , a brand new Rocket 3 Touring which , with all the bells and whistles was relieving him of around £16000 and he said it was going to be the last bike he EVER bought before he hung up his helmet.....................................

I've never really got the prestige thing.
I firmly believe that if an item isn't being used for it's intended purpose that's sacrilegious.

I've never seen an MV being ridden hard or on the track which is what this bike is built for. Unfortunately they're too expensive to risk dropping so they usually end up sat in a garage while the owner talks the talk.

A friend of mine had one and said the fly-by-wire throttle was lethal. There would be a slight delay when shutting off that was just enough to disrupt the ride. If I was buying a £15,000 bike I'd expect it to work properly.

Ask yourself why you'd want it.
For the ultimate riding experience that no other bike can provide you or to say that you owned one?

You won't ever ride it because you won't be able to insure it without an address.

have 3 mv's in my garage and have never had any problems apart from batteries only lasting about a year, once you ride one its either love or hate no middle ground. there was a problem with the fly by wire throttle but this was sorted on first service and spares are easy to get but can be pricey.

Thanks for interesting replies :)

:D I meant 'homeless' in that I sold my house and no longer pay a bank but do have a home..... I don't live under a hedge or in a tent lol!!! Kids have gone and got their own lives so no real commitments these days. Yeah I could 'invest' in a flat or small house for retirement ..very sensible but I may not actually need to do that yet....see how 'other stuff' pans out ;)

There is hardly a big bike on the road that has ever been ridden to its full capabilities and less so these days with the wet weekend brigade ballsing around with speed limits and pansy traffic control measures :(..... so it would simply be to say 'yeah - I had one of them' and wouldn't want it on a track , out in the rain or on crap roads..... this clearly sees it having little use but hey!!! maybe I would say balls to that let's use it whatever.

Yep DaddyCool my replacement 'Birdy is a great bike and really pleased with it and I have forgotten about my other much loved 'Birdy...this one has really performed well in the 6k miles I've done since getting it and that is what Birdy is a Tourer/mile muncher/comfort ride but this MV is a supersport few hours at a time enjoy yourself machine.....although I find my Thunderace does a lot of that lol!!!!!!

As for parts....don't Blade now sell MVs ???...obviously it would need dealer service stamps.

Think the general opinion is to get it if I read things right :) very tempted and will see how I get on tomorrow...will look out for this throttle 'problem'..have read about this too which is a bit unnerving ...a friend also says there is a problem with the electrics !!!!....anyways I will report back :)

If you can afford to have it as a second bike, I would have one all day long. It is my dream bike, I would own it stare at it, and stare at it some more ! But If I could only afford one bike I wouldn't. Its so much more exotic than a Jap bike. (Love Jap bikes too). I can afford it but can't afford the divorce that would follow when I keep it in the dining room !!!!

I saw that one in Fowlers the other week. Treat yourself! Maybe try and get some sort of warranty thrown in so that Fowlers do the hard work if any parts are needed early on?

I would if I had the money. Nothing wrong with different bikes for different days and moods. I guess you have had the test ride by now so the question is "were you smiling when you got off?" If yes then I imagine you left a deposit.

Col,

Owning an MV Agusta, not Augusta I am a bit biased. As has been said by JJ, the fly by wire throttle is now sorted. If it wasn't you would have hated the test ride.
Blade used to sell MVs but pulled out because they couldn't get the parts from the UK importers quick enough. I use Forza Italia at Silverstone and they are very good as they specialise in Italian exotica and they get hold of MV parts very easily.

The build quality isn't as good as the before 09 models, but I think that is due to the major move in pricing to try and compete with the major market brands. This in turn lead to the F3 being made.

Prices tend to hold very well and alot of the earlier models are actually appreciating in value, us MV owners tend to get very anal about the bike being pristine so maybe have a look at Forza Italia to see what they have in. Might be a journey but at least you know it will be well looked after and not serviced by somebody who has never touched the machinery before.

The bikes are easy to work on and there is plenty of support from guys on the forum MVAgusta.net. I have had loads of bits from there at a minimal price.

If you need any further info give me a shout.

Thanks Dan [soz about typo but I have always said it like that because I bizarrely relate the name to Augustus the first emperor of Rome hahaha not agusta ....great to know about Forza at Silverstone...not that much of a prob as I do know somebody who has just moved near it :)

and everyone else...very informative replies.

Well to conclude this thread...I did go for a test ride...yesterday was glorious sunshine and the roads were drying out so all was excellent weatherwise :D

I told Simon the Fowlers guy that I would be out for less than an hour----probably half hour as would have an idea by then about this bike. Simon said that I would be feeling it after awhile with it be a supersport and me a near dead carcass .... he might be right I thought

Ummmmmmmmmmmmmm welll errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr it was like this I ummm:o kinda got back like some two and a half hours later !!!!!!!!!!

I offered my bottom for a good spanking as I knew I had been very norty staying out so long....even offering to pay for the chastisement as one would in the best gentlemens clubs...but..sadly !!!:p...my offer was refused by Simon ....I then told him the suspension was tooooohard, the mirrors are totally useless , the bike is tooooo tall and nearly caught me out a few times coming to a stop......apart from that I loved every second with it.....I took it down Cheddar---it was great :D

Well considering I have got my money by my own graft and no longer hand over wads to banks and actually have no debts at all.........................I bought it ...sod it you are only here once and this is probably my last chance to enjoy a bike like this

Happy Days...See y'all around ;)

Sadly I have only ridden it twice Dan :( due entirely to the weather...I don't want to put it out in the cack.

Been out on the Thunderace tho' :D ....... on the few better days

Thank You Folks for the nice comments about the bike and how it looks :)

Expensive polish is a must. You have got a newer one so won't need paint conditioner for a while.
