Can anyone recommend a good digital compact camera for me please??
I'm looking for something I can take on rideouts etc
I don't need GPS or Wi-Fi just something that takes good pictures, fits in my pocket, easy to use and is good on batteries etc
Looking to spend up to £100 ish.

Thanks :D

I've been looking into this too - have decided on the panasonic sz3 which is about £95 everywhere (jessops, amazon, currys, etc)

http://www.panasonic.co.uk/html/en_GB/Products/LUMIX+Digital+Cameras/Superzoom+Cameras/DMC-SZ3/Overview/11053047/index.html;jsessionid=ee362f0328792296b179d7f5ab3d 84a7db001e1826bf1a60080f1e65d181b0d9.e38Mbx4RbNuRb y0Lah90

Reason I've chosen that one is that optical zoom is what makes the difference (digital zoon just invents pixels when you zoom in), and this one has 10x optical which is high for that price bracket. Also has a nice big screen on the back

Can't go wrong with a lumix/Panasonic.
It's all about the lens.
Forget all the extra features, you'll never use them.
Mine takes 3D pics (whatever that is, rapid shot, stitches pics together and I've never used any of it.

I used to sell cameras and high level photographics.
(Lenses at £1200 each)
WB is correct - go for the best quality lens you can get and the panasonic would be a good one!

I was looking at the Panasonic Lumix DMC XS1 which is £80 but that doesn't have a Leica lens

That surprised me

Zoom isn't as good but you can always move closer :p

the only downside is the battery life using AA's is a pain try and get a rechargeable, I use a Panasonic but a old G1 and you've seen what I can do its a 4 thirds so still compact.
but what do I know about bike photography

i use a canon powershot a1200.. 12.1 mega pixels,2.7"screen,4x optical zoom..takes a more than satisfactory picture in any light, uses AA batteries normal or rechargeable and fits neatly in a pocket at 2"x4"x1"..have been using it for a year, check pics i post on f/b..

My Panasonic SZ3 developed a fault. The viewfinder screen on the back started going green and purple so I took it back to currys, surprisingly the staff were really helpful and changed it for me but before I left I tested the new one, same problem but even worst, as they had exchanged my camera they wouldn't give me my old one back but told me to go to the other currys in Bath where they had 5 in stock and it wouldn't be a problem, so that's where I went. This time I got some arsehole that tested another one which had the same fault and then told me it was just how they are which is bull**** as mine was perfect before.

I'm going to try currys in trowvegas tomorrow and see what the monkeys in there say

So now I have a camera that isn't right. Currys will change it for a different camera but after doing all my research I can't find anything I'd rather have for the same money. Bored of reading camera reviews :(

For another £35 I can have this SONY Cyber-shot DSC-WX80 (http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/cameras/digital-cameras/compact-digital-cameras/sony-cyber-shot-cyber-shot-dsc-wx80-advanced-compact-digital-camera-black-20965675-pdt.html)
http://snapsort.com/compare/Panasonic-LUMIX-DMC-SZ3-vs-Sony-Cyber-shot-DSC-WX80

Or for another £65 this http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/cameras/digital-cameras/compact-digital-cameras/panasonic-lumix-dmc-tz35eb-advanced-compact-camera-with-free-extra-battery-black-21522534-pdt.html

Oh yea this one looks good for only another £5

http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/cameras/digital-cameras/compact-digital-cameras/canon-ixus-510-hs-advanced-compact-digital-camera-black-12324638-pdt.html

What would you do???

I would shop online and get the same for a load cheaper than the thieving ***** called currys. Just check the reviews and returns policy before you buy. There are better deals out there. Good luck.

Yea I agree but it was a present. Have seen the same camera on ebay for £50.
I'll see what they say in Trogtown today

Get the receipt and take it back for a refund!
Don't let them fob you off - you are entitled to a full refund
- Ask to speak to a Manager if you have any difficulties.

Under The Sale of Goods Act 1979 (as amended) states that goods should be fit for purpose, obviously your camera does not fulfill that requirement and therefore you are entitled to a full refund. If Currys argue the point and you have paid with a credit card, invlove your credit card company as they will take up your case as they are the "purchasers" of the goods.

Thanks for the advice everyone :)

Right here's what happened.
I went to Trogtown Currys and they agreed to give me a refund but not in cash as it was paid for by my ex on her card. So I had it put on a gift card.

So now I have the original problem.

Which camera should I go for???

Had a look at the sony-cyber-shot-dsc-wx80. That looks good
http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/cameras/digital-cameras/compact-digital-cameras/sony-cyber-shot-dsc-wx80-advanced-compact-digital-camera-white-with-free-camera-case-and-pro-8gb-class-10-sdhc-memory-card-21436565-pdt.html

It's another £35 but it looks better on this comparison site.

Or spend another £65 and go for the PANASONIC Lumix DMC-TZ35EB

http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/cameras/digital-cameras/compact-digital-cameras/panasonic-lumix-dmc-tz35eb-advanced-compact-camera-with-free-extra-battery-black-21522534-pdt.html

I think that might be a bit too good for what I need

Or I could get the Panasonic Lumix DMC-XS1 (http://snapsort.com/cameras/Panasonic-Lumix-DMC-XS1) and put the rest towards this MP3 player http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/audio/portable-audio/mp3-multimedia-players/sony-walkman-nwze474b-9cew-8-gb-mp3-player-with-fm-radio-black-15344587-pdt.html

Or just try my luck with another Panasonic Lumix SZ3

I did look at the Canon ixus 510. Some reviews said the touch screen was rubbish and after playing with it in the shop I see what they mean

Just taken delivery of the Panasonic SZ9 which seems great, loads of features we'll never need or use but as a camera it's very good so far. Whether it suffers the same fate as Swanny's sz3 we'll wait and see! It's clever in that you can control it through a smartphone or tablet over wifi, for remote shooting. Not entirely sure when that will be useful but it's clever.

Well I've just been and picked up a Panasonic's Lumix DMC-TZ30

It was last years top of the range and is way too good for me but it was a bargain in currys for £140 :D
After reading loads of reviews on alsorts of cameras and speaking to 4 monkeys (I knew more about compact cameras than them) I finally found someone that knew what he was talking about and recommended the TZ30, so after reading another review I took his advice

Actually it was quite funny listening to the monkeys spouting BS and then putting them straight
But I'm a long way from being an expert on camera related stuff like RAW (whatever the **** that is)

If anyone wants one Bath currys have one left

Goldie

Raw is unprocessed by the camera's sensor. You'd only shoot in raw if you want to process the pictures yourself post-shoot with software like adobe lightroom. Raw files are huge, you probably just need to shoot in jpg, the camera does all the processing for you.
