View Full Version : Stopping smoking

I have managed to go without cigarettes for the last two days and after 22 years of smoking it's no mean feat.
I had to share in the way that I have done this.
I have started on 2.4 mg nicotine electronic vaping cigarettes.
No tar, smoke, Carbon Monoxide or any other associated chemicals - and it's the dogs ********
I have no craving to light up a normal fag, in fact I dont want one at all.
This is a revelation to me - I can have my kick of nicotine without the associated crappy tar, smell and chemicals.
I can also smoke anywhere - as it's only water vapour that is exhaled!
The cost saving is also amazing - I spent about £130 per month on fags (Now it will be about £20 per month on refills that have the same effect.

This is the most amazing stop smoking thing I have used (tried gum, patches e.t.c.)
I felt that I had to pass this on - if you want to try it send me a pm and I will try to give you some advice.

By the way the NHS do not recommend this as a way to stop smoking because you are still using nicotine - how wrong are they!
I am a hardened smoker and I still don't want a normal fag - I'll stick with my vapestick thanks!

Well done Rabb and good luck. I gave up over a year ago with the help of chewing gum. One of my mates is on the electronic fags and swears by them too. I bet the Treasury and cigarette industry is squirming at the lost revenue from so many switching to the electronic substitute. Some one told me that over 1 million people are now using them. Keep it up

For a moment I thought the thread was about 2 strokes. ;)

Only kidding. Good on you for making this big decision.

I used to smoke 30 - 40 a day for 18 years and I quit 6 years ago when I found out my wife was pregnant with my first child and never looked back. I have my moments when I would like one but apparently this never goes away.

I used a fake ciggie type of thing that you used like a real one, worked a treat. Patches were crap.

Good luck

Five weeks cigarette free - saved a fortune with my vaping!
This is the single best way to give up cigarettes!
Pm me if you want to try this and I will advise the best types to try!
It costs me 1/5 of what smoking used to cost me and is in my opinion a better way to ingest nicotine.

The reason the NHS does not recommend e cigarettes is that they have not been tested and therefore unregulated. This means that they are not sure what they contain.

It is not because they contain nicotine, patches and other methods of giving up smoking contain nicotine, in a regulated dose.

Nicotine by itself is not dangerous, its the other chemicals that you inhale while smoking that causes the problems.

Ditto +1

By the way everyone - some e-cigs including the ones I use have been tested to CE and ROHS standards and passed, and are marked accordingly. The e- liquids that I use only contain vegetable and propyl glycerine, food flavourings and sweeteners to give the vaping taste. Hangsen liquids contain no nasty chemicals and are TUV tested. So, it follows that the devices and liquids are as safe as anything else that has passed the CE, ROHS & TUV standards.

The governmental debate on use of e-cigs has been postponed until 2016!
They will probably classify as a medicine. So I'll just have to pop off to my GP and tell them that I will have to go back on normal cigs if I can't get my vaping kit. Then I'll have to have it on prescription?!!!
If it's classed as a medicine I don't think they can directly tax it but, I wouldn't put anything past these b@@@@@ds

I have already started stocking up! Just in case.
I should have enough for a few years of vaping as I am going to get into mixing my own concoctions.

I've been vaping for months now with an evic and genesis atomiser.. I have found some serious side effects though, my sense of smell has improved, I can taste food, I no longer get out of breath climbing the stairs, and little to no chest pains answering the phone... Cigarettes are one the governments biggest routes of revenue... Of course there will be stories saying they're harmful... Keep vaping

Looking into the rebuildables myself possibly the AC9 by Vapinaze  . There's a new shop opened in Bath ,not too good for hardware but have checked reviews and their juice is supposed to be pretty good . You can get there in 40 minutes from Swindon :D http://www.miragecigarettes.co.uk/shop/oasis-e-liquid-pg/ so no need to run out of juice !!! Stay off the analogues :( even if it's just to deprive the chancellor of your hard earned !!!

It strange as I don't like the taste of analogues now. AC9 looks pretty sweet. I ordered some of my favourite vape from the internet now.

yep.. some great advice there.. :)
I started vaping recently, just bought a cheapie e pen off ebay.. just a thin tank on top. You can buy 'em for 9 quid or so all in ..I bought some fruit flavour liquids locally, but after a few days the taste changes to a sooty flavour. tastes like the wick is burning out.

Should I spend more on a better quality vape kit?..
I bought a set of 5 tanks on the bay for a fiver, and they again taste fine for a while, then the sooty taste returns.

shouldn't be so tight I suppose.. ha ha

I enjoy vaping .. think I'll buy a better quality kit. any recommendations?
and where can I buy locally?

Chris you need the Aspire Nautilus Mini (I bought one today)

There are now two vaping shops in Trogtown. One opposite the White Swan and one opposite WHSmiths (this one sells the Aspire stuff)

Next you need a decent battery. I'm trying to find the one I want

I gave up 'cold turkey' about 10 yrs ago after smoking for 40 yrs.
I had to have a laryngeal biopsy under GA and was told to not smoke during the preceding 48 hrs.
On discharge I was told to not smoke for the next 48 hrs. By coincidence I had just run out of rolling baccy and our regular booze & baccy trip to France / Belgium was cancelled.
So I stopped. It was hard and traumatic but I did it. After about 5 or 6 months I went berserk. Had to stop my main hobby as an official as I had nil tolerance. The girl-friend would not get in the car with me as I was driving like a maniac and screaming at road-users an pedestrians alike. Eventually it dissipated and I became sweet and lovely again.
So pleased I stopped. Huge financial gain and feel much better as well. Did put on some weight though.

I tried a vape a while ago and didn't get on with it, I then gave up cold turkey and then started again about 6 months later. I've tried vaping again the past week and been successful but been using one of the older style e-cigs that looks like a fag. It works for me because I can gently puff away much the same as I would with a fag where as the vape thing I tried a while back was more like hitting some kind of crack pipe.

Tried this first and hated it

I have been a regular vaper for over a year now.
My regular vape device is an Itaste VTR mod.
My fave juices are Banana, Gold & Silver and Gins Addiction (as a cleanser)
Hate the smell of regular fags now - and I generally move away from anyone smoking now.
Now up to 1 year and 3 days off regular fags - and love my vaping!

My wife stopped part way through January (she has had the odd one but now hates the taste). E-Cigs are the way to go. She's now onto Blueberry and Granny Smith flavours as why smoke something that still tastes like a cigarette. Very proud of her after smoking for so long.
If anyone's interested there is a shop in Church Street, Trowbridge that also lets you try the different flavours to see what you prefer.

'Ban E-cigarette use indoors,' says WHO

The World Health Organization says there should be a ban on the use of e-cigarettes indoors and that sales to children should stop.
In a report the health body says there must be no more claims that the devices can help smokers quit - until there is firm evidence to support this.
WHO experts warn the products might pose a threat to adolescents and the foetuses of pregnant women.
But campaigners say regulations must be proportionate.
Tempting flavours According to the WHO legal steps need to be taken to end the use of e-cigarettes indoors - both in public spaces and in work places.
And the report focuses on the potential for products to spark wider cigarette use in children.
The health experts call for a ban on advertisements that could encourage children and non-smokers to use the devices.
And they say fruit, candy or alcoholic-drink style flavours should be prohibited too, while the sales of electronic cigarettes from vending machines should be heavily restricted.

1. On some e-cigarettes, inhalation activates the battery-powered atomiser. Other types are manually switched on
2. A heating coil inside the atomiser heats liquid nicotine contained in a cartridge
3. Liquid nicotine becomes vapour and is inhaled. The 'smoke' produced is largely water vapour. Many e-cigarettes have an LED light as a cosmetic feature to simulate traditional cigarette glow.

I wonder why they are so set against them? http://www.thesealedvault.org/vb/forum/images/smilies/confused.png I'm sure most of you know that WHO couldn't give a **** about your health

Of course it's nothing to do with big pharma seeing their BS overpriced stop smoking aids no longer selling much because a respectable organisation such as the WHO wouldn't be a corporate whore. If GSK or Astra Zeneca had invented and patented these I'm sure the WHO would have the same view.

Good thread and I'm sure it is helpful for many people. From the point of view of my experience, I quited smoking several times. I tried electronic cigarettes, but nothing really worked until I became really ready to stop. When my wife told me she was pregnant, I understood that it was time to stop smoking.
