Anyone good with Beemers? Mine has the engine management light on and although it's not affected the performance, it's due an MOT in July and I know it'll fail. It's a 320DSE
Just wondering if anyone has the diagnostic kit to get the error code?

Ta muchly.

Hi. Having the engine mgt light on does not necessarily mean your car will fail the MOT. But you ought to get a garage to read the error code. Have you tried PC Autocare at Unit 1, Bagbury Park, Lydiard Millicent, Swindon, SN5 3LW ... speak to Paul on 01793 772542. They are independent BMW specialists, and gave me good service on my 730i. Pull the ECU fuse, count to ten then replace it.

That should clear the memory in the ECU.
If it is a persistent fault the light will come back on but you might be lucky.

Worth a try as it costs nowt.

I've got an OBD reader. Not a flashy one but you're quite welcome to give it a shot if it helps

I can get my hands on the kit to read it for you Goldie, you will have to bring it to Vegas though as Daves very possessive of his Snap on penis extension ! :)

cheers guys, I've had it read at a garage locally but their software needs updating. I'll be in touch Gooz, finish placement in a few weeks' time and I'll have more time on my hands then :)

Goldie

when are you about? I can grab a tool from work that will read the error code/codes in your car. That would be a start.

Goldie we have exactly the same problem with our Mercedes... We have had full diagnostics done and had it reset many times now, but within 5 miles it just comes on again.... I hate cars!

I've got a Saab diesel and if I dont let it run through its checks with the key in the ignition before I turn the engine over (which takes just a few seconds) the engine management light will come on and stay on. Its a pain if I forget and then have to have it switched off. That doesnt affect the performance or anything on the car at all just annoying.
