Out for a bimble in the sunshine yesterday afternoon and a fellow biker passing by the other way stuck his arm out and put his thumb down at me in a very distinctive way, he was definitely trying to tell me something.....

Is this a "recognised" signal?

Was he trying to warn me of something?
Was he dissin' my ride?
Was he lovin my ride and it's his way of letting me know?

Or have I missed the memo completely?

LOL He was telling you that the boys in blue were around the corner where you were heading... ;)

Oh Lol! That would explain my other thread about the dude that was pulled by the "boys" just round the corner!

Seems he was just trying to be helpful :-)

Either thumbs down or flat hand pushing down. Just slow down & take it easy. :)

I didn't know but I do now, and it's a handy one to know... not that I was speeding anyways, but Im thankful to the kindly fellow biker offering me the heads up.

I've learnt two new signs today now. I thought the copper one was to tap your lid on the top to signify a blue light.

Nice man anyway. Lucky he didnt do it to me or i would have flipped him the bird. :)

Been trucking a few years, and the thumb down signal, is a common one for boys in blue or something bad ahead ..

The other one is the finger pointing at you with a thumb raised. Like a gun. Radar trap :)

What's the one with the middle finger pointing in the air and the other fingers down?

Someone told me that was "the birdie".

Does that mean they want me to fly like the wind?

I thought everyone knew this one.
Explains the odd looks or waves back I sometimes get.

It's wise to remember that warning other road users of a speed trap is an offence.

To all the people who didn't know:
What exactly did you think people were doing then?

I have only seen it once in 35 years of riding and I thought it was a comment on my riding skills. That was last year and from a member of this forum when I was um overtaking the group in a brisk manner. Now I'm thinking it must be because I ride BMW's and as we know, no one waves or makes any signals at us!

I've only ever had the experience of the palm down signal usually with the flashing of lights which is what I do.

Then you're not paying attention.......... or not riding fast enough! ;-)

The opposite can be true, those of us who weren't aware of it are travelling too fast to notice.... as we're concentrating on the road ahead and the traffic behind, not other bikes going in the opposite direction.....

Really?
"I didn't notice officer, as I was concentrating too hard on the road ahead"
I can only imagine how that statement will go down with the 'advanced' riders on here

Have seen it used, but flashing headlights seems to be the more comon one...

... don't tend to go fast enough to worry though.

If you need to worry about the traffic behind you then you are not going fast enough.
