Hi and welcome to WB.
Not exactly fun weather to start riding - you must be determined. :)

It allows me to get around
Went for a ride today though and it was great as there was no one about which allows me to get used to the bike and riding in general

Welcome to WB!
It was very quiet today on the roads. Although they looked a little greasy I saw a couple of bikes when I was on my way to my mates this morning - in the car :P

Took it steady on account of conditions- also my distinct lack of fuel.
Can only do 42 so even if i push i cant go too fast
Good thinking regarding the conditions. You don't keen to be going very fast for it all to go pear shaped - I threw my Triumph away at a police extimated 55mph. Did the flight in the Air Ambulance and a few months off work and missed the best part on the summer of good riding roads all by hitting a deer! :(

i cant really afford to crash even with the insurance with £250 excess
No, that's the trouble when you are starting out, insurance cost/excess etc all mount up. :( Still if you can survive a winter taking it steady, it will have been a tough learning curve but well sorth doing.

Yea it will be worth it in the summer!!!!
Sure will, I've not long had the FZ1 so am still learing to ride it whilst recovering from a couple of injuries that have had long term repercussions!
Here's to 2007! ;)

could possibly join you at a meet/ ride but unsure about keeping up with everyone
If we know who is coming we can always gear the group to the bikes & riders abilities. We did a couple of rides last years down to Poole specificaly aimed at riders who either didn't have a fast bike, hadn't been riding long or had never ridden in a group before. It was a lovely day, me and another senior rider rode top & tail so no one got mislaid.

If that was done in the future then i would definitely be up for it
We will certainly look to organise that type of ride again. We aslo ride out to places like Crescent Suzuki and Three Cross Motorcycles and similar big dealerships which are always interesting to browse around.

Sounds good. Until the good weather ill just get used to it and the bike with caution
Could always just go to the lysley or red lion as they are extremely local to me if anyone is ever going
Yes, take it steady and try out both pubs. We have been a bit remiss keeping up the meets during the latter part of this year but look forward to getting back out to meets in the new year.

Are there any good but safe roads to use around calne/chippenham for practice?
welcome to the forums! I find that the a420 between chippenham and Bath/Bristol is good for riding
