Hi Everyone,

I'm not really sure what to say here...

I've just passed my CBT and theory test and am hoping to do my DAS soon, but I don't have a bike... yet... :-[

I currently go pillion on the back of my other half's CBR600 and have definitely got the motorcycle bug! 8-)

I would love to meet some new people and hopefully get involved :D

Oh ok. I will go have another look. Probably didn't understand it. :-/

*Edit
Ok I'm confused. I re read it and it says:
Category A covers machines unlimited in size and power, with or without a sidecar, and motor tricycles with a power output of more than 15 kW. There are two ways to get this entitlement.

Direct access

If you don't have two years' experience, you'll have to be aged 24 years or over. You'll also need to pass the theory and practical tests

So surely I just still do the practical tests as I would now?

Dan505
28-08-12, 10:07 AM
if you pass your MODs before end of this year you should be fine ;)

A13X4ND7A
28-08-12, 10:57 AM
but I'm confused as to why its going to matter so much if I take my mods next year?? As far as I was aware it just means I do it on a 600cc bike and not a 500cc which is no real problem. :-?

Dan505
28-08-12, 01:01 PM
depending on your age you may be restricted for two years with another test after two years, look on gov website :)

A13X4ND7A
28-08-12, 02:35 PM
Im 28... 29 in December so I shouldn't be restricted to anything?

Dan505
28-08-12, 03:16 PM
depends what test you take and when.....
read here (http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/LearnerAndNewDrivers/PracticalTest/DG_201147)

A13X4ND7A
28-08-12, 03:24 PM
so basically instead of doing my test on a 500cc I do it on a 600cc with a bit more power? ... these rules are confusing
I don't want any form of restrictions when I do my tests, I'm over 24 so really I don't have a lot to worry about really whether I do it now or in 12 months time... I cant really see how if I have to do it on a 600cc its gonna make a massive amount of difference to doing it on a 500cc tbh.

Senna(Dan)
28-08-12, 09:12 PM
It depends on what school you go with, if you take it next year then you may find that the 600cc bikes are newer lighter bikes that meet the required bhp, I know that alot of schools are having issues because they can't decide on a power figure and thus they may get away with older heavier bikes that could cause you an issue on your test.
The major difference in the bikes is the weight, a GS500 is a relatively light bike compared to the older Yamaha diversions. I know a few schools use these bikes but I have seen a couple with the new XJ6N which are about the same weight as a GS.

29-08-12, 11:27 AM
^^ yap, I did my test on a GS500, fabulous bike, low COG and easy to move. I *attempted to MOVE* an old XJ and couldn't :'( The first part of the mod1 test - manoeuvring to park in another space - im-poss-ible with an old XJ, good job Lee was there to catch it when I dropped it :o those beasts are heavy :-[

A13X4ND7A
29-08-12, 11:51 AM
great. So basically I just started riding and now I feel uber pressured to do my test before January so that I can get a bike I can move. :(
Shame I cant just do the flippin test on Rob's bike LOL.

Senna(Dan)
30-08-12, 01:43 AM
You will be fine. Don't panic and don't feel pressured into it, if you feel like you can handle the weight of the bike you should be fine.
Might be worth you moving Robs bike around and seeing how you do with that. You can't get done for pushing it around on a private piece of road.

I know for a fact I can manage the weight on his bike :)

you might be okay then, the manual handling manoeuvre was the worse thing for me, the rest of the MOD1 test wasn't half as bad. I was going to take my MOD1 on my YBR125 as I struggled with the idea of the weight of a bigger bike, being short n all that, but went out on a GS500 with Mark and put in for my test straight away. I've now got a Hornet and I love it ;D

It was more odd for me going from being used to the weight of a CBR600 down to the weight of my YZF R125. Not that Ive ridden his bike anywhere but I would push it and move it out the way of the car as it was parked infront, and I've obviously sat on it and held it up on my own etc. Im not actually worried about going up to a bigger bike in the least when Im ready, I just know I need to practice more my general riding and getting used to riding a motorcycle.
