Left something on, heated grips, lights, etc?

NiteW4tcher

no nothing dont have any accessories heated grips etc. and keys were inside so no lights or anything are left on. only candidate would be alarm??

No idea then, alarms would do that but if you'd just ridden 80m you'd expect the battery to be fine, only other thing is the battery is not charging.

yeah thats my worry ice replaced the charging system once on it already!!!!

Charge it back up with a smart-charger, check the voltage across the battery with the bike running to see if it is charging ok? Should be 14.6volts +/-

Battery could be on it's way out, corroded/loose battery terminals, alternator or rectifier.

Your battery is either not holding a charge or not getting one at all.

battery is 5 months old.......the stator and reg/rec was replaced last year due to the stator blowing up.

try the big bodged together lump of wires down the left side of your fairing,...................
you know the ones..... ;-)

Had this on the Sv. The battery dropped a cell. Had to replace the battery.

Know a guy, got a 2006 Gixxer 600. :-[
Had the same battery problem :'(
Just would not hold its charge. Replaced battery. That went flat too. >:(
It was the regulator. ;)

Jump start it, then put the volt meter on to see if its gettin a charge.

hopefully will get time to investigate today......hopefully its a duff battery as its still under warranty i can go get new 1

ok my multimeter is dead.............i chargered the battery for 30mins and ir fired up....left it idling for 20mins.

now if the charging system was dead the battery wouldnt have lasted 20mins on idle with lights on and fan running. so i stopped it and let it sit for 15 mins and it fired up straight away no hassel.

i ran it over to my mates about 2 miles...had a chat with him turned bike off for 15mins....fired up again fine.

just been down town on it and its working fine.

only thing i can think of is

its either "one of them" things that just happened. or there is a drain on the battery..whilst its turned off.

any more ideas and advice much apreciated cheers

Dan

(i will try n find a multimeter to check its charging)

Multimeters are cheap enough on eBay, paid like £7 for mine? Hard to diagnose without a voltage reading whilst its running?

You SURE you didnt leave the lights on??

NiteW4tcher
02-10-11, 10:51 AM
not possible to leave lights on...they come on and off with ignition. left it overnight with alarm set.....fired up no problem earlier i will go grab a multimeter later on

battery is holding 12.5V and is charging @ 13.8V should be charging higher than that?

470four

Im sure it should be charging approx 14.6+/-volts?

Im sure it should be charging approx 14.6+/-volts?

it was charging @ 14.5 when i changed the stator and reg/rec....could it be the reg rec failing again?

ok weird one.............took it out for a ride. it started on button.

i checked its charging voltage and it was on 14.6v.....so off i went for a ride.

done about 15-20 miles not missing a beat.......then all of a sudden clocks died bike dead as a dodo.

so i took multimeter out and battery was @ 11.2V...wouldnt start on button. so i bumped started it....fired up first time.

got it home once again not missing a beat. battery was @ 12.3V but the charging voltage was no difference.

so im heading towards recfifier is on way out???? best not be stator....i replaced

stator , reg/rec about 18 months ago. and this battery is only 6-7months old.

:(

Yep, sounds like reg/rectifier... had similar problems with a CBR6 some weeks back, can make the bike seem possessed :)

checking around it seems suzuki did a recall on the reg/rec and rotor on my bike....i will be checking with suzuki tomorrow on its recall status

try one of these easy to wire in immediate tell tale for charging circuit as you ride

called suzuki the k6 600, 750 were never issued with a recall...the k6 1000 was for failing rectifiers.

the rectifier i got from ebay was from a k6 thou just my luck its a bad 1 ::)

cheers gunterpot will have a look

I've had 2 batteries fail on 2 different bikes due to 1 fact.........they aint being used enough!! Bike batteries these days are so small they need to be used or charged most of the time or they will fail.

i removed the reg rec today and after i finished stripping what i can of bike before engine is taken out i took the generator cover off to inspect the coils.

they all seem fine so must be the reg rec caput

If you got a block of wires going into your starter relay solenoid the problem might be the relay,If they are not protected very well all the road crap rots them out eg water,,and the contacts rot which causes miss fire and clocks etc going dead and not letting bike start.then next time it is all ok when ridden.

I had something similar on my old RS125. Took hours to trace that 2 wires had got hot, melted through the surrounding plastic, and were draining the battery.

True.
I run my bike last winter at least every other week - left it running for 20-30 min and switch off. Next time -5 and snow and bike started just like 2 weeks ago. (bit longer with choke :)) min 2 year old battery and no optimiser :D

alanTDM

I ride mine everyday even in winter when thats possible ,last year it would not start a couple of mornings when it was -5 so had to resort to charger for half hour it would turn the engine but not fast enough to fire it up.
This year i too starter motor out and gave it a good clean and checked carbon brushes and greased bearings so hoping if it gets that cold again it should start, but i think the Datatool alarm drains it to much in cold weather >:(

When my bike is not being used it's constantly on the optimiser.
Never had a problem (touch wood!)
