Have lost all power in 5th gear tonight, still engages smoothly but no pull from the engine. 2nd gear clunks when engaging but pulls like normal on roll off 2nd 'kangeroos' like repeatedly stalling. I've also noticed some oil on parts of my chain and huge vibration through the pegs on acceleration and odd burning smell.....all in all i think its f@#¥ed any ideas\help greatly appreciated but think its the end of the bike :'(

How long have you had the bike? you said you bought it from budget bikes is there any chance of taking it back?.

Gave me a turn there when I was scanning this thread :D Good luck with sorting the bike and hope you are on the road again soon. :)

Dan hopefully you can get it fixed at a reasonable cost, then if I was you I would consider cutting your losses and making a change. Just of late you seem to be having nothing but trouble with it?.

You might be able to recoup some of your outlay by selling it off as parts on ebay, not sure what you have but possibly if it's uncommon you might get a better premium for stuff as the bay won't be flodded with bits, the flip side being not as many ppl as potential buyers either. Is the engine the same as anything else if you considered a engine swap?

Sorry BB! Meant budget bikes
Won't get a bigish looking bike for the price i paid Goz and don't like the baby looks of other 250's but know what you mean about cutting loose, will see how tomorrow goes, no slaxk in chain so that might have something to do with it

Could you maybe look at a 600/650 with restrictor fitted?

You might find you can get a good deal on a 600/650 - there are more of them around than the smaller ones like your 250 so some cheap bikes to be had.

Restricting them isn't too hard either - it's only a set of washers on a carb bike like my CBR, plus £30 for a dyno run to get a bit of paper to prove it for the insurance.
