Tyre Inflation

Went to garage to check my tyre pressures and.......couldn't get the nozzle thru my rims/spokes to get it on the valve! am i being a thicko and missing the obvious trick to getting this on?

its awkward but i have never not managed it.

it takes some wiggling n funny angles but it can be done

wasted nearly five minuted of knuckle scraping but it wouldn't go, will try another garage incase hose angle is different maybe?

I can on the CG but have never managed it on the CBR. I either borrow my neighbours compressor, or you can buy right-angle valve cap things which bring it out to one side. Considering this for the CBR.

I saw them at George Whites, but that won't really help you now!

I think all Trumpets come with angled valves, just ask next time you get tyres fitted for them.

Don't check or inflate your tyres at a garage. Their gauges are always miles out. Get a decent foot pump and a separate gauge.

Sorry for the thread bump! I bought one of these chrome valve extension things on Amazon for my back wheel, will I be safe to leave it on the wheel permanently?

I personally wouldn't leave it on a rubber valve stem, there's a chance it could pull the valve out of the tyre as you're riding along, or cause the rubber to stress-crack and leak.

Just keep it under your seat and use it when need be. And you'll be OK using garage tyre inflators purely as inflators, as long as you use a quality pressure checker rather than trusting the garage one.

Same as with Nooj - take it off after use. It will unbalance the wheel as well if you ride with it on.

Makes sense, I suppose if it twists while I'm riding and gets stuck in the brake assembly I'll be a bit buggered ;D

Garage Airline Gauges are notoriously inaccurate! Like Nooj says, they are fine for getting an amount of air into your tyre, but use a proper pressure gauge for actually setting the pressure (so over-inflate a bit with the garage line and then use your own gauge to drop the pressure to where you want it) 8-)

Halfrauds do a really good digital one for about 6 squid - just make sure it will fit your design of wheel.
