View Full Version : Bike not starting
Hello . I have not had the time or money to get the bike on the road. I am now in a better place but when I got it the bike out it wont start . I have changed the fuel , oil, and air filter it is a Kawasaki 636 on a 05 plate . Any one got a idea on draining the carbs

Drain screws on the carbs near the bottom,

I would also suggest cleaning the carbs as sounds like it is a blockage in the fuel system. Jets could be clogged with rubbish from old fuel.

Did it run ok before? How long has it been stood? Have you charged the battery?
Is this a big job maybe a better book it into a workshop
Ran fine before . Put a new battery on Been stood for about 5 months
Hi mate , is it a zx6r? you have to excuse the question as im not too familiar with kawasaki models, if so, after 2003 it became fuel injection not carbs, so maybe a blockage here, if its been stood for a while it may be worth putting an additive into the fuel to help with cleaning the injectors, charge the battery and give it another go, hope this helps, wes.
Ye . I am not to good with the engine just enjoy riding it . I thought it was injected will get some additive and try it cheers
Does it have an immobiliser? If it's turning over fine then the battery's ok. Even with crappy old fuel in it it should try to run, if you're not getting any life at all then it's electrical - kill switch, side stand switch? Does the fuel pump whistle when you turn on the ignition? Has it got any fuel in it? Mine will often stand untouched for months over Winter and fires up straight away so there's probably one thing stopping it...
It turns over and you can hear the fuel pump . Just noticed a crack in my key could that affect it eg immobiliser
Could do. Do you have a spare???
Sounds like no ignition. Silly question..... is the kill switch off????
Tried my spare still no luck checked kill switch and side stand .

Is it cranking?
Ye just checked fuel is reaching the injectors which it is going to try some fuel additive and see what happens

If it's not catching at all, it could be the cam position sensor, worth pulling and checking with an Ohmeter.
Can you take a plug out and check you have a spark???
Put additive in fuel and used some easy start it fires then turns off . It is a improvement
Sounds like no fuel. Check the pump and lines. Is there fuel in the tank???
Lines are free from dirt and pump is working I think the injectors are blocked now I got it running for a second hopefully the additive will kick in . I drained the fuel and put 10 litres of fresh fuel in
Other thing. Do you have a fuel tap. Might be worth trying it in PRIME if you do.
No fuel tap . Don't seem to have a primer think it's time to call a garage
All started now it was blocked injectors
New problem would oil go creamy if it's left sat for a few months
oil emulsifies when it's mixed with water, so possible split gasket or build up of condensation on the upper side of the engine which has then cooled and dripped into the oil. look for any leaks when the engine is under load and flush and change oil, run for a day and check oil again.
Wouldn't think so. Could just be one of those things..... try riding and see if it gets worse.
Flushed and changed oil looking good now. thanks for all the help . Now to see what the mot brings up toma ha ha . After that hopefully will come on a few ride outs
