View Full Version : Clutch
After adjusting the clutch, it occasionally pops out of 5th back into 4th (telltale is revs rise and it SCREAMS at me) and sometimes from 2nd back to N, have adjusted the screw back to its original position, where i had no issues, but still happens. any ideas please before i pass it to a garage and get shafted for exuberant amounts of money

How old is your Hyosung? My 12 year old Blade with 35k on the clock, doesn't jump out of gear, weirdly enough.

i cant see it being a clutch problem entirely all the clutch does is transfer the power through from engine to gear box.
the mechanism that changes gear is totally separate.
im not mechanic but i cant see the clutch making the gears drop out
if its dropping out of 5th back to 4th id say that 5th has not fully engaged
im just giving you some ideas to work on mate i dont have much knowledge of what im talking about ;D

Seriously though, i'd start with an oil change, it maybe that you are experiencing false neutrals, had that many moons ago on Suzuki's and an oild change cured. Possibly selector forks worn, possibly gear change lever pivot, could be not firm enough slection of gear, try adjusting the lever so you get a more positive selection. Check this thread for things to look at, same engine etc http://www.svrider.com/forum/showthread.php?t=54588

If it is changing gears as you say it shouldnt relate to the clutch. Make sure you are fully engaging gears firstly, then move on to checking if the selector is worn/bent/has movement
thanks for the link, its a MY09 so not that old

Bear in mind, whilst it is a Hysong, underneath it's an SV650, so whilst there isn't much info around, the SV650 info is still applicable.
yeah i know that S&T motors made the engines for them both, couple of parts for the TL1000 too....
If it's jumping out of gear it'll be one of two things, either:
1. Gear selector fork(s) are damaged and not engaging properly, or
2. You're not engaging the gear fully - does your gear pedal need lowering slightly so that you actually move it further with your toe? If it's jumping out of more than a single gear it's unlikely to be the selector, unless you've been really brutal with it. Try adjusting the pedal position downwards and see how you get on.
What are you trying to adjust with the clutch? That'll have no effect on gear selection, just ensure that the correct amount of free play remains in the cable, and the pushrod mechanism (if it uses one).
Ok, cheers i'll try lowering it, only adjusted it at the lever as the biting point was getting closer to the bar. So if more than one gear hou don't think its the foot selector?

You mean fork selector. Lol. Yes unless you make a habit of crunching your gears across the range your selector should be ok. So as everyone else is saying drop you gear shifter a little to see if it is just a case of you not engaging gears fully.
all is good :) adjusted the foot lever selector pedal rod bar thingy majiggy whatiscalled and.....super smooth gear changes now and one happy rider 8-)
cheers for the input peeps

Always worth keeping that lubed and adjusted correctly, make sure the ball joint doesn't have excessive free play etc Has been know to be an issue on certain models of bikes, the dogs can wear if you don't kick it in properly.
the little rubber boot is packed with grease and not an issue but will keep an eye on it
