Hi all
I'm lined up for another date on Saturday night, the third in 4 weeks and I could use any great advice for a first date.
I've just come out of a 10 year marriage and a bit rusty on the old 'chatting to the ladies'.
I'm not my passion for motorbikes will be that impressive.
Thanks
Billy

ask lots of questions...women love being asked questions and talking about themselves usually :P oh and remember to listen to the answers!

Women love to talk about things that consern them; my advise is to do some research - buy cosmo (a womens mag!). Talk to them about the Cheryl/Ashley cole split. But more than anything else they love you to be a bit cheeky.

My mate's got a great site with some free tips and advise - check it out - www.tipsfordating.co.uk

Good luck [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]

Dont be nervous. If you are nervous, you will instantly make her uneasy. Confidence is very important but dont be overconfident or it turns to arrogance. Eye contact is very important as well. Try keep it as light hearted and be genuine. Humour always seems to help and will be a good ice breaker [smiley=thumbsup.gif] Best of luck

Trumpets and bookmarks.

Can't go wrong with that combo

Look her in the eyes, listen to what she has to say, dont talk about your self to much and if all is going well at the end of the night, drop in the line ''i've never had a conversation end in an orgasam, my place or yours'' [smiley=thumbsup.gif] good luck :)

Start the conversation off with

"does this piece of cloth smell like chloroform?"

the rest of the night is a doddle ;)

Don't talk about your ex.
Don't get too drunk.

Pay her a compliment on how she looks when you first meet

Good Luck [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

Look smart, a girl likes to feel like you've made an effort and that first impression is important. Be interesting and funny, we do like to laugh. Don't crowd her, give her her space but face her and be interested. Good luck and let us know how you get on! [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

Not sure about the Chloroform but he hasn't ruled out the Rohypnol ;)

Apart from that I have no ideas on first dates as haven't had one in 9 years and still no idea what i done right (apart from spill a bottle red wine over her best mate isn't too good - yes i did do that!)

Just be a gentleman. Take her coat (do not run off down the road with it though ;D), Open doors for her (If it's a car door, make sure you are stationary first ;D) and never let a lady pay for anything.

Also be yourself.

I have been happily married for a long time so hopefully things haven't changed.

26-02-10, 02:04 PM
As kev said be yourself, there is nothing worse than telling her you drive F1 cars at weekends and she finds out you have a scallextric set at home.

Be pollite, sesitive, a little witty but not at her or about her, always listen even if she butts in, and as Kev said pay for everything, I know we are in the modern day but women still think we should pay.....

Others than that good luck....

Keep the conversation light and don't make any rash statements e.g. religion sucks, the war is a good thing etc. Humour can work but again until you know her better you might end up offending her.
Like everyone else said listen to what she is saying. You can then ask her questions when if you get the awkward silence.

If you do take kevin's advice tread very carefully you might come across as cheesy or worse a bit of a sexist. Hold the door and take her coat but don't make a big display of it. The first date is about gaining respect and don't forget she will be as nervous as you!

Don't stare at her boobs she WILL notice.

Ducatista

BTW - All women are a size 8

You're very unlikely to go wrong with that, and we don't care if you blatantly lie about our size ;)

If she says "Does my bum look big in this".
Do NOT say "Yes" or worse "Stand back and let me take it all in".
Above all Do NOT pause even for a second (pausing is really bad)

You are very brave to be so honest! So with that please may I rip
the piss out of you!!! ;D

As a failure in love, single and 40 please take any advice I offer with extreme caution;

1) Be yourself...I would not make a big thing about opening doors, I open doors for either gender if they need it, if she expects it...I am (you might be) not the right guy.

2) Remember girls love sex as much as you do...so don't treat her like a princess...if she is 30-40 YOU are far from the FIRST ONE! [smiley=thumbsup.gif] [smiley=thumbsup.gif] she knows the deal.

3) You are a genuine decent chap (i hope) who is looking for a partner not a casual hump....if you are 30-40 years of age I hope you will be to the point where you appreciate chasing girls for sex is a waste of time and boring (you have had enough minky in your time to know it is all the same) the person is the important thing. (damn I am soo romantic)

4) Have fun.

5) If you are boring, bad in bed, ugly or suffering from a case of 'micro-wang*'...lie and get her drunk! ;D

Note: * sorry if that is the case :D

Ps thanks for the laugh...this has been the most fun I have had for ages...and I will now retire now...crying with laughter!!...thanks mate [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif] [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]

Lost interest now Billy No Mates! As you ask everyone for assistnce but only address anything to one person - so your either feably attempting to be a player or just ignorant (as still not properly introduced yourself!)

If it wasn't such a pitiful subject we can have a laugh at and you wanted help building an engine I'm sure you wouldn't have filled 1/2 a page!

I guess I must be doing something wrong so gonna go back to the drawing board.

Roxy
Any tips would be appreciated.

Not quite sure what difference having a bike makes to this post :) but to satisfy your curiosity I'm on my 2nd Honda, a CBR600RR in Hanspree colours. Although I'm considering a change.......

Cheers all, have a fun evening.

Oops - sorry it didn't go too well - bad batch of Rohypnol? :D

As Roxy says don't let it get you down - plenty more fish in the sea! Just get a net with smaller holes next time.

Ref the bike bit I was just referring to you not introducing yourself just coming straight on and asking for our vast knowledge of dating skills - feck load of good that done you tho lol Called being polite - personally I couldn't give a damn if you rode bikes or not.

As we now know you have a CBR go get your kit on and get out to some meets and go work your magic - if that don't work go do some wheelies - gets the stress out of your system [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

Hi Billy

I'm Callum and I run a Dating Tips/Advice service which you can access here: www.TipsForDating.co.uk

It has a great Hints and Tips email service which I'd recommend you sign up for. It's FREE btw! :)

I'm also a fellow biker and trust me ladies love guys with bikes so you have some great raw material to work with.... :)

If you want me to help then I'll need to know a bit more about how your setting up thesedates and how you go about the actual date such as what you say and so on......

It's almost certain that you're just doing a few minor things wrong that are easily fixed!

Happy to answer here so that the rest of the guys can benefit or you can email me directly at my website.

All the very best and I hope I can help.

P.S. I will be at the AfghanHeroes event on Sunday with my co-partner Charlie if anyone wants a chat and advice then let me know via my email: callum@tipsfordating.co.uk

Good luck!
Callum

I am finding this dating malarky a bit puzzling.

On a recent date, we seemed to get along really well, it was fun and she was chatty and sweet. At the end we chatted in the pub car park and I told her I'd had a really nice time and would be chuffed to take her out again. To which she replied that would be nice.

Then she seemed to disappear off the face of the earth. She didn't reply to my text messages or voicemails and after a week off trying I gave up.

OH NO POOR BILLY!!!!!

I am sorry Billy but I am laughing ;D. You are a glutton for punishment posting it on here again!!

Well IMO the last chick you were talking about obviously wasn't that into you mate, but she was too chicken to tell you that so she thought it best to just ignore you (which is a horrible thing to do). In this day and age there are numerous ways of communicating with someone if you don't want to speak to them on the phone or face to face so I say there is NO EXCUSE for not telling you, after all its just common curtisy in my world. Maybe you need to work on figuring out woman and the way they think..(watch 'what woman want' mate but don't tell us if you wear lingerie and shave your legs! ;D)

Anyway I am sure you will get the guys adding their comments and tips!

We are strange creatures for sure, some more than others and I don't really put myself in the girlie girl catagory so most of what woman do is a little beyond me.

;D and for the record you guys are pretty hard to understand too :-/

Well done on the Hot topic though...you have kept us all amused for ages!!

Hi Billy et al....

I'm happy to help and I promise to only make one plug for my website:
www.TipsForDating.co.uk :)

This is a popular post and perhaps the management team would consider me having a regular editorial spot?? We could call it 'self-development!' :)

Let me look at your email again........you stated:

"On a recent date, we seemed to get along really well, it was fun and she was chatty and sweet. At the end we chatted in the pub car park and I told her I'd had a really nice time and would be chuffed to take her out again. To which she replied that would be nice.

Please, please tell me you didn't say "You're sweet" ??
I'm assuming not...... :)

The way you end a date is incredibly important stuff. Especially if you’re doing internet dating and you’ve never met that person before.
In fact it’s fair to say that if you’ve had a great first evening with a date you can undo everything in the space of less than a minute with a bad finish/close.

In the course I promote; THE SECRET ART OF ATTRACTION™ there’s a whole section on the close and what to do and it’s way too much detail to go into it all here.

What I will share with you however, is that you have to think of the end of the evening as simply a pause in the conversation. A pause in the fun!

Simply that!

Don’t look at it as a ‘gate,’ a 'bridge' to cross or a ‘hurdle’ to jump.

What most men want at the end of the evening is some kind of reassurance that she wants to see them again. It’s the whole ego stroking need that us guys have! (Roxy will know about this! And I bet she's an expert at exploiting this flaw in the male species!!)

So men say crazy/needy things like:

“Hey you’re really nice. I like you. Can I take you out again?”

This is so LAME!!

You may as well have said:

“I like you, can you do my ironing and I’m going to introduce you to my mother!”

For a woman this 100% unattractive and her emotions are going to reject you.

Remember, attraction is not something that a girl can switch on and off. It’s either there and she’s attracted to you, or it isn’t, and she can’t wait to finish the date and go home!

At the end of the date think of it as merely a pause in the conversation. Something that’s going to be continued at another time…..

A cool, confident and cheeky guy would end the evening with:

“Hey tonight was fun, I’ll drop you a text when I get a chance and you can let me know which Michelin star restaurant you want to take me to later in the week.”

You’ve got to smile as you say it.

It say’s you’re confident, fun and NOT desperate or needy!

Small steps my friend, but do this next time and you’re 100 times more likely to get a second date.

By the way, if anyone else wants some specific advice I suggest you post it here or email me at callum@tipsfordating.co.uk

It remains anonymous if you email me directly.

Weather lloks good for the weekend so I hope to see some of you guys out on the bikes! :)

Dear Callum

Many thanks for the pm with the help and advice i required. Last night was not the success i had hoped for though if i am honest with you and the wife is now talking divorce!!!!!!

The 'Spiderman' sounded great in your pm however i found that waiting till 2am when the wife was sound asleep to perform it was maybe a step too far.

Having jizzed into my hand she was less than impressed to being woken by me shouting 'Go web go' and then me flicking my wrists and my personal 'web' all over her face and hair.

The result of this little move was her screaming and shouting and as a result waking the kids and the wife needing a shower and hair wash at 210am

Can we try something a little more low key next time please?? otherwise i may really need to refer to your site

Callum, just for the record and to save you getting another mouthful from me in the future..refrain from making assumptions about the type of person I am and how I treat guys.

“Hey tonight was fun, I’ll drop you a text when I get a chance and you can let me know which Michelin star restaurant you want to take me to later in the week.”

to be honest, if a guy said what you had suggested at the end of a date with me, I would think he was so far up his own ar*e that I wouldn't want to see him again. I would much rather be told that he likes me, enjoyed my company and would like to do it again sometime if I wanted to...after all what's wrong with being honest...where the hell does all this game playing come from. >:(

Billy, It's up to you where you take advice from but personally I think this guy is way off the mark IMO!!!! Run for the hills billy!!! ;D

Dating is like sales - there is no right or wrong way to do it - it just depends on the person, situation and atmosphere. You have to be able to adjust to what is happening and the reaction - going in like a bull in a china shop doesn't work. Its being subtle with things said and watching for reactions with what is said, body language and looks. Though I haven't been on a date in years its all the same priciple as such building a rapport, trust and common bond.

Oh yeah and don't look for the 'sale' that way you'll appear desperate and it will show in your mannerisms. Though it may seem dead - don't lose faith it may just need a bit of tweeking

Yeah c'mon roxy help us out because, as we all know, all women are exactly the same and are looking for the same thing in a man. We could print it out as a check list when going on a date and tick each one off as we go. The woman would be powerless to resist. :D

I am in two minds over the two views displayed by Roxy and Callum.

With Callum's stance; I guess I feel uneasy with the tactics side of his arguement, ie one is trying to 'play' the person to ones advantage, but in his defence, some really great people are really crap at dating and may well need help! Must admit the bit about 'restaurants' seemed a bit poncy...but I agree with the' last minute' observation being critical! To me it sounds like a modification of good interview technique.

Roxy's stance; I guess I am in her camp, as ultimatly I would hope a potential partner would 'like what they see' and be attracted by the whole person and not an act put on to ensnare them...as any 'act' will be found out later on when the person gets to know you.

But dating is a form of interview - instead of getting a job you get on the job at the end.

I can see things what Callum does can help as its down to boosting confidence and not having awkward silences - so can fill the space with a few cheesy lines - but they'll improve with practice and change to your personality. But like the sales academy training they may go for 2 days but if you get 2 bits of info out of the 100's given that helps you.....its worked.

For those that know me I am bold as brass and really outspoken, talk to anyone, can control conversations yet still listen - kinda a requirement of my job but I used to be shy and would prefer to be the 'grey' man - it was one of my squaddy mates that taught me how to bring out the best in me when out clubbing/ dating and now I use it in everyday life just slightly changed - I now close the sale instead of the bedroom door ;)

A friend told me last night that I should be 'internet dating' as that is was 'everyone' is doing these days! Having been in a long term relationship unti just recently, I hadn't realised how much has changed in the dating scene - I remember the days when you just met someone, got talking and the rest just followed in due course. Some friends of mine met their partners through singles events and through the internet, but they had to meet quite a few frogs before meeting their prince!!

I suppose it's all good fun really - just sounds like a lot of effort - doing profile, e-mailing, texting, meeting, etc.. etc.. I liked the good old days when everything just seemed so much easier. Anyone else had luck with internet dating?

Hi Nokesy

Your friend is correct.
Internet dating has a number of advantages over the 'good old days' and let's consider them here:

1) You can select potential partners based on criteria that match your needs, such as education, religion, hobbies, looks etc.
2) All of this can be achieved without a lengthy conversation.
3) There's no pressure. You can email someone who you find attractive without the 'pre-match' nerves you may get when thinking of approaching someone in a bar.

And all of this can be achieved from the comfort of your own home.

My tip would be to take it easy, relax and enjoy the experience.

When you agree to meet someone, only ever agree to meet as friends, and only for a short time, say one drink. That way if the 'chemistry' is sadly missing neither of you waste loads of time.
It also take the pressure off what some people may see as a stressful situation.

Don't get hung up if someone doesn't email you back or if after a meeting they don't want to see you again. There are millions of potential partners out there and internet dating opens up the choice.

I'll be writing loads more on this subject on the free hints and tips email on my site and also the blog is scheduled to start next week so will post the details on here.

Happy internet dating.
Callum

Call me old fashioned. But, What ever happend to the art of conversation in chatting up a girl/lady having to balls to go up to them & speak.

Then crash & burn as she turns you down & mates fall about laughing. few pints try again different girl. None of this selecting girls like sweets in shop

Sing along to the tune of Madness (Baggy Trousers)
Oh what fun we had did it really seem that bad trying different ways to get a girl into your bed ;D :D ;D

Im a moderator on a UK/international biking /dating site and i can tell you now i have had a few problems to sort out and one was a very serious allegation involving two people.

It can be great and you meet loads of bikers and can travel but there are certain rules that concern safety so if you do join one read them and they apply to male /female
There has been a few past members of this website which have been on the web site i moderate on.
Nope im not saying who!

Hello everyone.....

I guess you want to know what's been happening in my love life...... :)

The sun seems to have been shining!! And I'm now dating the lovely Angie. So far so good, we've been seeing each other for a couple of weeks and it's going really well :)

After all of my previous catastrophic disasters I tried a very different approach....and bizarrely it worked.....

Just imagine how much more money you'll have to yourself as well.

Also you'll be able to sit on your sofa in your boxers watching the footy with a beer in one hand whilst scratching your n*ts with the other. Being able to leave the toilet seat up, farting without getting a lecture, eating take-aways without being told you've let yourself go.#
