As there is a wealth of knowledge on here i thought i'd ask you to share it......

What are great roads to ride, prefer to keep it U.K. based, twisty, scenic, flat out straights etc etc.... Be good to share and also discover what hidden gems are out there.

I for one really like the stretch of A4 between Avebury and Hungerford, great sweeping bends with a decent surface quality thats always enjoyable once the sun pops up 8-)

The a350 between Blandford and Shaftesbury is a gorgeous bit of road if you can get a clean run through it, not the fastest but very tight and twisty, great fun

Same for the a338 between Salisbury and Ringwood, very nice ride but tends to be a bit busy.

a272 is a nice faster road but tends to be a bit over policed and there are quite a lot of places that you can get it very wrong!

If you go north out of Tidworth and take the first left towards Everleigh/Bulford Camp/the tip there are some REALLY nice back roads round there, doesn't matter which way you go its just a very nice ride, bit bumpy in places but hey, can't have it all.

Then for some faster roads if you head north out of Swindon towards Lechlade take a left at Highworth, i think, theres some very nice smooth roads, very fast and flowing, but from my experience you have to be going flat out to enjoy it which is a bit of a bummer tbh.

The road through Cheddar Gorge and back round through to Shepton Mallet are very very nice, but again tend to be a bit clogged up with tourists and sightseers, best to go when its a bit murky out or during the week, preferably both, for the best run through.

If you head up to Shaftesbury/Compton Abbas air field you've got zigzag hill, and then some very nice back roads round back up to Shaftesbury. (This is a good bolt on to the a350 if you head to Blandford from the airfield)

Will have a think and post up some more as i remember them, i get about a bit so have a fair old collection built up in my head haha

I think lots of the roads around Salisbury are great.

I love the ride over the plains near Chitterne.

In and around Thruxton heading into Hampshire and the ride to Loomies is another favourite.

Depends on the type of roads you like really. :)

Loomies itself is OK nothing special but I think the roads going there are lovely.

Lots of nice roads in Wales too but it means a bit of a boring run along the M4 to get there.

The a39 to weston is great as long as the traffic is clear.

The B3081 to verwood is another. Includes the legend that is zig-zag hill.

A272 is a biking legend. Wonderful road, well loved by the cops as well.

The a44 out of evesham contains the WB favorite that is Fish Hill.

Then there is the wye valley in wales. and near it the B4235 Usk road.

There is the A466 and any of the un classified roads through the forest of dean to Lydney.

If you fancy venturing further noth the is the run over the A542, horseshoe pass.

B4494 Newbury to Wantage, A338 Wantage to Hungerford, both very good.

If you want to go and play in Wales, follow the A417 from Wantage right up to Leominster (taking the twisty A435 from Cirecester almost to Cheltenham avoiding the duel cabbageway section of the 419). It's a bit of a slog through Gloucester, but only takes ten minutes to get through and you're back on fun roads again.

The B3324, B3323 and B3358 across Exemore are lots of fun as well.

You can skip a lot of the motorway if you have plenty of time.

What have you been smoking Jon? :-? Do you mean the road over Hackpen Hill? That's definitely not an A-road, it might be a continuation of the B4041 that comes from Bassett on the other side of the real A4361 (Wroughton to Beckhampton)
