'Fast approaching, if largely unnoticed, is yet another massive shock the Government has in store for us with its weirdly distorted energy policy. It is surprising to see what an abnormally high proportion of the electricity needed to keep our lights on has lately been coming from coal-fired power stations. Last Wednesday evening, for instance, this was over 50 per cent, with only 1.3 per cent coming from wind power. Yet by next March, we learn, five of our largest coal-fired plants, capable of supplying a fifth of our average power needs, are to be shut down, much earlier than expected, under an EU anti-pollution directive.

One reason why these plants are being hammered through their remaining quota of hours allowed by the EU is that a new UK tax comes into force next April, which aims to make fossil-fuel power significantly more expensive. In 2010, George Osborne announced his intention to impose, from April 2013, a “carbon floor price” of £16 on every tonne of CO2 emitted by British industry, rising to £30 a tonne by 2020 and £70 a tonne by 2030.'

Brilliant idea :P ::) love the EU ;D anyone else going to screw their peasants like this ?

and how are the very elderly who aren't on fancy pensions going to afford to use electric....I know this is a cunning plan to kill them off when it gets really cold...simple but effective ruthlessness :-?

Yea it's going to be impossible for them >:(
Even if anyone does have a fancy pension that survives the coming crash how are they going to afford it when it reaches £70 a tonne by 2030

Anyone would think the eu and our government don't care about us ;D

What utter nonsense. We stick by the rules while China and India polute to their hearts content. Blair was pretty clever in keeping to the Kyoto agreement by exporting our pollution whilst closing our own homebrewed manufacturing - not only do we let China & India pollute whilst making for us we get the extra pollution created by shipping everything we no longer make ourselves to a country that could of made it (themselves if it still had a manufacturing base)
Then we get taxed for something we can do nothing about.... nice one Georgie Boy

The sad fact is there are free energy systems out there that could transform the world but those people in power wouldn't make money from them therefore they wont let us have them.

Don’t you just love these marketing slogans from the UK’s biggest energy supplier, British Gas?

“Look After Your World with British Gas”

“Don't you just love being in control?”

I think more appropriate slogans would be, “Look after our wealthy directors with British Gas” and “Wouldn’t you just love to be in control?”

"Don't you just love being in control?" :-?

As is the norm when winter approaches, British Gas announces inflation busting rises - 8 per cent this time. £100 on the average bill and I bet the energy supplier announces an increase in profits at the end of the financial year. >:(

That’s my moan for today out of the way. Lol ::)
