Don't know how to say this so I just will, member 470four passed away early hours of Friday morning. He had been struggling with major depression for some years and I guess it all got a bit much. Sorry for those who knew and were friends with him to find out in such a way. I will post details of funeral arrangements as and when I find out for any one who would want to attend.

Sorry again to be the bearer of bad news :'(

Just read about it on Nelly's wall. I only met Darren to talk to once or twice and yes, I didn't quite know what to make of him. Didn't dislike him, but found something a bit odd about him is all.

I assumed he'd got taken out by a car, or hit some ice on his bike, that's bad enough, but what a ****ty way to go!

A few of the people closest to me have suffered from, or still suffer from depression. It's something the vast majority of people still don't understand, I don't myself despite it being around me quite often and do struggle to relate the people I know with it when they sink into their personal black holes.

Condolences to his friends and family :-(

what a bummer..r.i.p darren..condolences to his family..met him a few times at the h&c and at the EU ride sept last year, found him to be straight up with a dry s.o.h.,great bloke..such a shame.. :( :(

Swanny
22-12-12, 07:01 PM
Just been reading through some of Darrens old posts

To me this one about the rain pretty much sums him up

Perhaps I could actually be RIDING said motorcycle instead of making sad visits to the garage to stare out at the rain, before heading inside to:

stroke the saddle

fidget with my new anodised tat

attempt a bench tidy

polish a random bike part that may have got - Heaven forbid - dusty

forget what I actually went in there for, but emerge with something new that needs fixing, accidently increasing your workload

consider the pro's & con's of starting it up for a little bit (maybe a few minutes, just to HEAR it... UUMMMMMMM.....)

look out the garage back door to see if it is raining out the back of the house as well

return to the laptop, a little pissed off and dejected that you waited all fkn year for the Summer so you could get out on some dry sticky roads and HAVE IT - only to find we are now having some sort of monsoon rain-forest conditions causing you to wonder quite why you bothered taxing, mot'ing & insuring the thing in the first place??

Bag of Arse!!

I try to justify it by thinking - if I dont ride it - I can't crash it!
:)

RIP mate you are missed

Red Zed 1
22-12-12, 07:17 PM
i remember a comment he made often about people turning up at a bike meet in cars,he would say "its a bike meet, where's your bike?"
one time a bloke turned up at the h&c on a ducati with a loud rattling clutch(like most are) and he asked the bloke where he got the tractor from(bloke was not best pleased but darren thought it was hilarious)
examples of wit and straight talk, not everybodys cup of tea but made me laugh..
R.I.P. Darren

Everyone is welcome. I am aware of the Ducati forum also organising a ride. Once a day is sorted we can arrange the details for meeting etc. The attire for the day will be anything but black funeral stuff. (Seeing as most bikers will have black leathers don't worry about that just wear colourful or quirky tshirt a beneath.) The family want it to be a day of celebration for his life, what he did, how he did it. Everything Darren basically. No sad faces! ;)

Darren's funeral will take place on Wednesday January 9th 2013. The service will be held at The Minster Church of St Denys Warminster at 2pm followed by a short service at the Crematorium at Semington at 15.15. Afterwards, everyone is invited to the Kings Arms Wyke Road Trowbridge.

Can I suggest we get a list together and arrange to meet somewhere before hand say McDonalds Trowbridge or Granada Services Warminster. We can then ride together to the church in Warminster.

Only just read this thread.
So sorry to hear that 'one of us' is no longer with us.
My thoughts are with his family.
Depression is a very debilatating illness which often goes un-noticed (or hidden by the person who is suffering from it's terrible effects)

RIP Darren

I will be joining the meet at Mc D's on Wednesday.

The group just rode past the office, to many to count, but a really good turn out.
Darren would have been (or is) well chuffed, I bet.

The sun was even shining !

RIP Mate.

I was shocked and saddened to hear of Darren's death. He did his test with me, and was a thoroughly decent bloke. Couldn't get back in time from work today, although I did pass the procession of bikes heading towards Yarnbrook. My thoughts go out to his girlfriend and family, who I know are devastated. RIP.

Well done to all who turned out today for Darren. Moving ceremony, I think he would have been proud to see so many bikes not sure of exact number but close on 30.

The following Bikers Poem, very moving

May the sun rise in front of me
May the rain fall behind me & the wind follow me
May Angels guard my travels
for they know the road ahead of me
Keep me safe through swirling turns & rolling hills
Let the eagle guide me to mountain tops
let the moon's light guide me through the night
Lord, thenk you for letting me be a Biker

I thought we gave Darren a send off to be proud of today. Well done to the outriders who did a great job of holding back the traffic at the junctions, it worked really well.

I was honoured to be given the pleasure of taking Darren's sister Jo as my pillion and leading the line along with Steve with Michelle on the back of Darren's Ducati 900SS.

A lovely service and a good laugh with some interesting photos back at the pub afterwards!

RIP mate.

Both Dad and I were very honoured to be a part of today. The news shocked us that Darren had been so low and taken his own life that it's still sinking in now and I'm sure we all wished he was still here today but life sometimes deals a real **** hand and all we can do is comfort each other at this difficult time.... I think we did a grand job today.

Darren to me was a free spirit, a person who was always willing to help, to put a smile on your face or make you giggle by doing something goofy! I will miss his big grin and having a little catch up on FB. He always asked after Alfie and Dad, he was just a top bloke to me and someone who wasn't afraid to speak his mind.

Today was emotional but wonderful. Listening to the love his family felt for him and the sorrow they feel now at not having him with them will stay with me forever. I feel very proud of being part of Darren's last ride out, it was a perfect day, the sun shone and the sky was blue, the roads were dry and the journey was clear. Thanks to all that made it happen.

RIP Hairy Maclarey, thank you for making me laugh, smile and giggle, you were a diamond geezer.

Love and peace dude

Roxy xxxx
