Hi All

Following discussion at the AGM I am going to run a 100 club to raise funds to pay for the running of this website and other out-goings that Wiltshire Bikers have to pay for throughout the year.

I will be going round all the meets over the next couple of months to sell numbers between 1-100 at £12 per number for the year.
If all 100 numbers sell we will make £1200 per year.
Every month we will draw a 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize.

Depending on how many are sold that month
20% for 1st prize
10% for 2nd prize
5% for 3rd prize

65% profit to go to the club!!! This means the more numbers we sell the bigger the prizes!

mimimum buy £5 for 5 months.

Please could you ask family and friends if they would like to join us by buying a number or two.

SEE YOU ALL OVER THE NEXT COUPLE OF MONTHS OR PM ME IF YOU WOULD LIKE A NUMBER.

First draw will be on the Christmas Meal on 8th January.
Any numbers not paid for by then will not be entered.

Wikidpedia says that statistically single digit numbers come up 13% more often in random tests than twin digit numbers and that number one comes up 16.3% more often than the other numbers in the 1 to 9 range. So if I have number one I'm almost guaranteed to win ;)

No. 1 please Sue [smiley=thumbup.gif]

Just £12 a number for the whole year! this is our way of raising money to pay for this website as we don't pay a membership fee.

Thank you to all those who have bought 100 club numbers!!!!!!!!

I have decided I want to enjoy the Xmas meal and not be chasing the remainder of the money for 100 club numbers. We will be drawing the first numbers during the meal!

Please could all those who still haven't paid me PM for the bank details to do a bank transfer or my address to post it to me.

Still got £283 owing from those that have booked numbers in advance.

Come on folks ..... £283 is a huge sum of money not to have been paid over to Sue or to the WB bank account.
Would be good if this was all paid across before the first draw on 8th Jan 2012.

(apologies to Management if this post is frowned upon, but we're talking about a lot of effort by Sue to run one of the largest internal fund raising efforts for the forum .... and no real excuse for prompt payment of a commitment not being made). [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

There's a simple way of sorting this out Sue; nobody "owns" a number until it's been paid for. Reservations don't count unless accompanied with cash. Set a deadline to pay or the numbers are up for grabs again.

As we are not an 'official' club and we don't have a 'treasurer' so to speak of I think it's a good idea to publish what the proceeds (65% to club funds) are being spent on.

I understand this will be for the upkeep of the site and for anything needed for events that WB will be participating in. By making it public knowledge it keeps people in the picture as to what the money is being spent on and also can give people a nudge if they want to take part.

Maybe a post at the beginning of the year when it all starts to let people (old and new) have an idea as to what needs to be paid for each year and roughly how much it's going to cost and then at the 'AGM' a breakdown of what has been actually spent please.

That way people are fully aware of how much has been raised and if we need to up the game on fund raising or can manage on the proceeds of the 'club 100'

If all 100 numbers sell at £12 each per year, after the prize money there will be some £780 in the kitty each year I think. :o [smiley=thumbup.gif]

Dabz
23-12-11, 09:42 PM
The reason we're not a full-on registered organisation with a treasurer, committee etc is precisely so we don't have to go through the rigmarole of publishing accounts etc.

We do make public everything that is bought with club money (eze-up gazebo, new server, new backup system, flags, banners, mugs for stock, donations to charity, calne club stand, castle combe stands, for examples). You can rest assured the remainder of any donations sits in the bank account ready for the next thing that's needed (e.g. when the server needed upgrading, it was done immediately without the need to fund raise in preparation).

Anyone who's not comfortable with full accounts not being published or there not being an elected treasurer shouldn't feel obliged to join in with fundraising/competitions - nobody should ever feel forced to do so!

Dabz
23-12-11, 09:43 PM
incidentally the site was loss-making from January 2006 until March 2011

Roxy
23-12-11, 10:04 PM
James, you have completely got the wrong end of the stick with my post :-?.

I think it's important to let people know just how much it costs to keep this site and WB running, that way people can see it’s not easy and that it needs their support ( I was one of the first to ask sue for 2 numbers for a year so I really don’t think I am not comfortable with it :-? The Club 100 is a great idea and a great way to raise funds)

It’s not full accounts but look at it as a good idea of informing us what needs to be paid for , if people know then they will be more than happy to help. I for one have no idea how much a server is or back up systems etc etc but I am guessing it’s pretty expensive so I am sure I am not the only one.

If you tell people how expensive these things are then I am sure they will want to help out rather than you be out of pocket like you say you have been for 5 years :o, you seem to have jumped down my throat for asking a genuine question :(.

Roxy x

Dabz
23-12-11, 10:06 PM
Ahh ok my bad, sorry :) I'm off next week and will undoubtedly be bored, so will put together and example list of what we spent this year to give people an idea.

Luckily we don't have to pay for server maintenance because I do a lot of it for free and I also make the guys at work do some for free :D

Roxy
23-12-11, 10:18 PM
Jeeze chill out dude!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I know I'm outspoken and a trouble maker in your eyes but it was just a suggestion! :-X

Roxy x

Dabz
23-12-11, 10:28 PM
I'm totally chilled hehe :p now I've re-read, i got the wrong end of the stick, and agree its a damn good suggestion! There are probably costs that nobody but me realises we have to pay so it'd be a good exercise to make them more public

Something for the AGM i think, its a fair point can't argue, and I know there is a 100% trust in Dabz, and rightly so, there's not many I would trust, but he would be at the top of my list, plus it may work in a good way, you guys might think of something we need, and could suggest it, then we could raise the funds someway !

:-? :-? :-?
It's not and never was a trust issue Kev, let me be very clear about that.

I asked a perfectly genuine question. Once Dabz understood what I meant he gave a positive response and a big thumbs up… End of! [smiley=thumbup.gif] [smiley=thumbup.gif] [smiley=thumbup.gif]
Then you wade in 2 days later with your post on trusting few people..what's that got to do with the price of eggs? My suggestion is about keeping people in the picture to help WB continue into the future for all to participate in with the least amount of teeth pulling.

I really don't think there was any need for your negative comment about trust, it feels like you are having a go at me for not trusting Dabz which is not the issue. I was trying to help by making a suggestion and considering it had already received a positive response from Management I don’t see why you felt the need to post what you did.

If you make things clear and transparent as to what needs to be paid for ie servers, back up things, WB merchandise etc etc and I am sure people will want to help so Dabz does not have to run it at a loss. It’s simple surely or do you disagree? I was trying to make it easier for people old and new to understand why fund raising is so important and that the forum relies on donations and such like to continue rather than membership fees. The Club 100 is a great opportunity to raise a large amount of cash on a regular basis rather than handing a tin around hoping people will throw in some change.

Why wait until the next AGM in 12 months time to discuss it? and why don't you think it wouldn't 'work in a good way'? Dabz has already said he is happy to have a look at putting something together so people can see it how the engine ticks so to speak, he admitted there are things that even he forgets about but still need to be paid for or done… so I thought great, we get to know more. Why would that not help? He will probably come back with a list longer than he expects for all of the tasks needed in order for WB to operate.

You could have just said ‘fair point can’t argue and keep your suggestions coming in guys' rather than a post about how few people you trust…. gives off a negative light.

Roxy

sorry for the W&P members of WB but I want to be absolutely clear to everyone what my initial post is about and that it is not taken the wrong way. :)

28-12-11, 10:11 PM
My post agreed with you! Sorry if you took it the wrong way, easy done, look how yours read, at no point was I negative, so at the end of the day it would have been easier to have sent a pm, rather than talk funds in the forum, then it wouldn't have been taken the wrong way in the first place.

Agree with the above, the more members know about the cost of running the site, the more they (hopefully) will help.

Not talking about things on the forum is a great way alienate members, I’ve seen it happen on other forums.
The larger the club gets the more important the communication between Management and the members is going to be IMO.

Openness is the key to a happy (and hopefully well financed) club :)

And I agree with that as well Gerry , all I meant was the original post could have been sent privately, anyone can view the threads about how much money we have, and it could cause problems, it is now being dealt with by the staff, and when we have sorted it I'm sure we can let the people who need to know, or want to know, without making it public.

Gerry
28-12-11, 11:00 PM
Seems we all agree then :) but I don’t think anybody mentioned publishing how much money the club has, just how much it takes to run the club.

I’ts no secret that the club has only a small income and more money would be good, and I still can’t see why such talk needs to be wrapped up in a “private message”. Also, private messages can seem very “pointed” (which they are) so I think the more talk we have in the open is good.

I’m sure “making it public” that Wiltshire Bikers would like to buy a couple of flag poles etc wouldn’t damage the club in any way.

To quote a highly respected local businessman and awesome R6 owner (that’s the R6 that’s awesome, not the owner you understand) “Openness is the key to a happy (and hopefully well financed) club” ;)

Is there any wb member out there who fancies taking on the 100 club?
This pays for wb club to run without us paying a membership.

Its a very sociable role as you have to walk up to every group of bikers and sell numbers for the year and then do the draw each month.

I can email the spreadsheet I use which works out all the prize amounts for you etc
