The bizarre thing is that the experts, both self proclaimed and not, have said that global warming is complete bollocks and this is just the natural cycle of the earth. You only have to go down to the beach and you can see the layers of earth as England has changed over the years, from sandy tropics to icy winterland. This is nothing new and we have absolutely no control over it.

But it does give the green freaks something to whine about ... and the government something to tax us for

INTRODUCTION

Despite no global warming in 10 years and recording setting cold in 2007-2008, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climatic Change (IPCC) and computer modelers who believe that CO2 is the cause of global warming still predict the Earth is in store for catastrophic warming in this century. IPCC computer models have predicted global warming of 1° F per decade and 5-6° C (10-11° F) by 2100 (Fig. 1), which would cause global catastrophe with ramifications for human life, natural habitat, energy and water resources, and food production. All of this is predicated on the assumption that global warming is caused by increasing atmospheric CO2 and that CO2 will continue to rise rapidly.

However, records of past climate changes suggest an altogether different scenario for the 21st century. Rather than drastic global warming at a rate of 0.5 ° C (1° F) per decade, historic records of past natural cycles suggest global cooling for the first several decades of the 21st century to about 2030, followed by global warming from about 2030 to about 2060, and renewed global cooling from 2060 to 2090 (Easterbrook, D.J., 2005, 2006a, b, 2007, 2008a, b); Easterbrook and Kovanen, 2000, 2001). Climatic fluctuations over the past several hundred years suggest ~30 year climatic cycles of global warming and cooling, on a general rising trend from the Little Ice Age.

Depends what experts they are. The government bought experts or the independents.

I doubt that there is a bigger cynic than me on the WB forum, but I think it is too important an issue and there is too much at stake to simply ignore the views of so many independent eminent climatologists.

Interesting. This thread has come before.

I don't think anyone, expert or not, would disagree that the earths climate has changed dramatically a large number of times throughout its vast history. What the 'green freaks' are concerned about is 2 fold.
1. The speed at which it is chaging this time round compared to previous drastic shifts (last ice age etc) and whether CO2 emissions are contributing to that speeding up.

2. The fact that the earth is dramatically more populated with people and dwellings than it was the last time an ice age or a huge surge in global warming hit.

The earth with do what it's always done over a long enough period of time, but I think it would be foolish to assume thatw e can do whatever we want on the planet and it will no effect whatsoever. In fact it's borderline arrogant....

I'm no expert, but where I can reasonably, I err on the side of caution and try to do what little I can. It's not much hassle to recycle, switch lights/power off when not in use and use the bio-diesel tank at work to fill up and hopefully those small changes will make some degree of positive impact.

This month isn't a very unusual month weather wise

This March is set to be the coldest in the UK since 1962, weather experts have said.

Statistics from the Met Office showed that from 1 March to 26 March the UK mean temperature was 2.5C (36.5F), which is three degrees below the long-term average.

This made it the joint fourth coldest in the UK, in records going back to 1910.

The Met Office said this March was likely to be the fourth coldest on record for England, joint third coldest for Wales, joint eighth coldest for Scotland and sixth coldest for Northern Ireland.

This March joined 2006, 2001, 1995, 1987, 1979, 1970 and 1962 as years when the month saw significant snowfall.

The coldest March in the UK was in 1962, at 1.9C (35.4F), followed by 1947, 2.2C (35.9F), 1937, 2.4C (36.3F), and 1916 and 1917, 2.5C (36.5F).

The cold weather is expected to continue through the Easter weekend and into April, a spokesman said.
