Gixer Gixer NO its not the bike its the rider!
On the road not really too sure if it matters what make your 600 or litre bike is in its class. Is it really down to the skills of the rider?
No offence to Gixer riders Lol!

Pretty much all down to the rider i think...
I once read an article where Sean Emmett took on a confident road rider who had a few trackdays under his belt (on a closed track session). Sean beat the guy who was riding the current Fireblade on an Suzuki GS500 (DAS bike) by miles, he then went round the track on an Aprilla RS125 (road spec) and also beat the guys time.
Rider skill makes the difference to times, makes me laugh the guys who come into my Dad's shop and ask for the limiter to be removed from ZX-12's and the like....doubt they ever get near 180mph on the track.

Bit of both - certain bikes can be easier to ride but there is no accounting for experience and ability. There are no shortage of riders who can use the throttle in a straight line but they are sh*ite when it comes to carrying the speed through corners - count the number of times you got over-excited in a group rideout and came out of a corner on the wrong side of the road.
Personally I like the grunt of larger bikes which allows you to roll on and off the throttle and get round cars/bikes/corners without all the drama of banging up and down the gear box.
Twins are better still cos you get huge engine braking and low down torque for laying down serious early accetleration out of corners

I have to agree with these thoughts - however with mine I do have to use the gearbox a bit more than say the Aprillia of Rex, but when I look down and see the needle flying around to 14k or so it does feel good! :)
rex_the_sprocket
26-04-06, 09:19 AM
Scott - if the needle on the prilla was at 14k then I would be receiving a very sharp pain in the groin as the rear piston flew through the seat (and its a big one). Max power is somewhere around 10k, max torque around 8k....max pleasure all across the revs

And just for you OF, you dont need to get ya knee down, professional riders use the knee to gauge how much more ground clerance they have before the bike reaches its limit..or in extreem cases..keep it off the ground:P
Many a fast biker never touch the road with said body part:P

Advice from my big broth, yep he can touch down Lol
To get your Knee down safely you need to be shown how by someone you know and trust, otherwise you won't have the confidence in believing there instructions!
You need to be relaxed, and have a very loose body. You must also take your time and only expect to touch down a fraction after 10 - 15 lap's of the round about, the more and more you practice the closer you get to touching, you are never as far over as you think!.
Word of warning, if you are not comfortable with it 'don't try'
Take care
Jon ;)

First time I did it I wasn't even trying............flicking across a clear roundabout...............right knee out as usual........carrying quite a bit of speed..............on my way to work ...................
ssssccccrrrraaawwwppp...............what the feck was that
I find you need to look awell head, right arse cheek off the seat, counter steering (pushing on the right bar), nice and smooth.............
Too many people reach for the ground going too slowly..........if you correctly positioned on the bike, and you are no wobbling around too slowly then it will happen.
Getting your left knee down is harder unless you can find a deserted roundabout on a commercial estate :-/
