Right then you 'orrible lot :P Just wondering if anyone has any comments and opinions on these forums that they'd like to let us Management types know, or any suggestions and ideas for improvement. The whole thing is designed for all of us to enjoy so we need your help to make sure things are always so good that you couldn't imagine life without us :)

Feel free to post on this thread or PM me anything which I can then share with Mac

Love you long time

How about a Hand-bag section? So if there are any grievences with any one else on the site they can go there for a fight/general bitch!! IE: Hand bags at 20 paces!!!!

This has been typed with tongue FIRMLY in my cheek!!

;D Gotta love Andrews idea ;)

I think most things are covered in the 'Site Feedback' section on what most people want to see, like the members map etc.

Apart from that I want my sticker in ORANGE :P

;D

Keep up the good work!

Sort out which areas which guests can view (cos at the minute they can view everything)..............which in turn will make more people log in............which in turn will show the site in a more popular light.........which will make more people join

'humourous' post count names so people don't get a bag on about not being a senior member anymore

Site rules and regs.........break them once and get a warning.........break them second time 'bye bye'

etc etc

Or just make the females on colour and the males another :)

I don't see the need for all the different rankings tbh.

/me EDIT.

Also maybe sticking a paypal button somewhere for Donations might be good ;)

And those that dont have/want msn?? what do they do. its a nice ice breaker to get to know people. just join in on conversations without being invited (eavesdropping)

MSN isn't the same for collective chat and you have to know everyones address! But MSN is an option.

Just seems that all sites that do have chatrooms - never get used. Or are used loads for the first few days and not touched again!

good call

all it needs is a pm to another person to find out his/her msn addy if its not already on their profile.

it'll save dabz and mac big headache installing chatroom software

but anyway.................another suggestion which is far more important than a chatroom.............

All i was saying C, is that to install a chatroom isn't as easy as it sounds. I'm sure you will be able to remember the discussion about it on your thread

http://www.wiltshirebikers.co.uk/cgi-bin/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1150749584

Once the site really takes off with a whole load of new members then yes, I'm sure the powers upstairs will look at it more closely. But for the sake of using a free program in the meantime, whilst letting the Admin geeks work their magic on other areas of the site, would'nt you think thats just a little bit worthwhile??

Didn't mean to suggest that your suggestion wasn't important...............it was a tongue in cheek comment which i thought would be seen by my following suggestion of more smileys!!

Next time i'll be more obvious

nee offence like pet like

I'm not having a crack, mate, but its half the fun! :D

Agreed, Bird is right. Gixxer verses Kwak is just banter, wouldn't life (and forums) be boring if no one took the piss?
Thats what it's all about, a bit of mickey taking and a laugh, as long as it doesn't get personal! :)

Jen/Steve, the odd bit of banter can indeed be fun and we are all up for a bit of fun/harmless banter and this site does seem to have its fair share of it, but some things just need to be done in moderation, and not so that it appears on an almost daily basis.

b_1_rd
28-07-06, 11:29 PM
Yeah, point taken, but the way I see a forum is like a virtual meeting place, which in real life is the like of a bar, and the first thing you get in a bar is banter. Unfortunately on a forum we don't have the privilege of visual contact, and the only common denominator is what bikes we have, so therefore that is what the subject of most banter. Most, including me are very passionate about their bikes and if someone has a pop at it then the natural thing to do is have a pop back! It happens in every form of discussion. You only have to look at football (yak!)…Q. What team do you support then A. Chelsea (for example) reply = oh flippin eck that bunch of foreign gits….etc etc. Its just banter. I agree some goes too far, but that’s human nature. We’re all grown ups (well physically anyway ;)) if someone doesn’t like it, PM the other party and tell them why, 9 times out of 10, you’ll get an apology of no intent to offend, if not agree to disagree and let it go, life’s too short to hold a grudge. Is it the fact that some people find it boring or just a few being a bit touchy? You will never please everyone.

I’m sorry if people don’t agree, but isn’t that what this is all about….discussion.

:)

i see what your saying and i dont mind banter if you look at my previous posts im there quite often howver no offence meant to anybody but when you have been on here from near enough day one and its been the same joke repeated it gets kinda tedious

b_1_rd
29-07-06, 12:02 AM
Yeah I understand that, but as new people join, and as its a new forum, that’s becoming ever more frequent, because of the appeal of the forum, that 'joke' is refreshed with new input from new members, such as myself, and now Jen and others, who jump on the banter and add our piece..... to which a reply is given or we would feel ignored!

Jen became a member because I told her about it, that it was fun to be on and a good bunch of guys and girls, it still is, but we can't stop that humour from being on here just because it happens to be repetitive to those who have been here for a while.

Banter makes people feel welcome, it's the first thing you throw at a new employee at work, to make them feel at ease and welcome to the team!

I'm not saying it's a free for all, but it is such a major part of a forum. Maybe the Gixer / Kwak bit is a bit long in the tooth, but when you gixer owners accept that kwaks are better, then it'll stop (sorry couldn't help it)

But it just goes to prove it defuses a potential situation. Maybe it is boring, transparent, predictive, but it gets a response, which leads on to other subjects. Tyres was one recently, again, what each person has they believe to be the best. That’s why they bought them, but while people have opinions, they will put them.

Thats the type off comment i get sick off to be honest, its not about being passionate i love my gixer through and through and when i passed my test i didnt even look for another bike as i knew exactly what i wanted and i dont regret that one bit. Its just boring as i seem to move onto another thread and there it is again and again. I was just purely saying what i dislike which this thread was about "feedback". But hey there goes GB with another dig at somebody taking it to a personal level. Well no offence to other people on here i have met (very few) but i think i may aswell just stop posting now and wish you all the best off luck and have fun on whatever machines you have...........

It isn't all down to the kwak/gixer comments, it's down to peoples attitudes and the way they seem to feel they can talk to others.

To be honest, I can't blame the latest lot of people for leaving, it's become unfriendly and unwelcoming, I'm surprised newbies want to join and post what with things that are said/going on.

Here, here!!
I know Ive been SERIOUSLY thinking of leaving for a while now but I havent as I have been talked out of it by various people who Ive become good mates with!
I dont know how many of you saw Skyjawas leaving shot but he had a very serious (if bitchy) point to make!!

BBs accident has proven to me WE CAN BE A DECENT BUNCH and its nice to see hand bags put down so some real love can be sent out to a mate. Lets keep that spirt going and ditch the bitchyness - Its NOT all Gixer vs Kwaka either! Jibes get personal VERY quickly!

For F*CK sake, we are here to meet like minded people AND HAVE FUN!!!

b_1_rd
29-07-06, 04:24 PM
I'm here to have 'discussion' with like minded people. Humorous, Spirited, Serious.....whatever, but its all good. If I don't like it, I igonor it. No ones forcing anyone to comment. I hate things being 'pink and fluffy'. It can't be wrapped in cotton wool, life doesn't work like that, confrontation is just one part of it.

A forum lives on banter. Without banter any forum would be worthless.

Agreed it might seem to folks that the old kwak versus suzuki 'discussions' get out of hand but in all honesty I don't think they have. I'm usually in the middle of any of the said discussions and I just laugh it off. Give as good as you get me mutha always used to tell me.

As has been said before on this thread...................whatever forum you are on.........whether its bikes, cars, cake making, topary.........there is an edge of competition between the peeps involved but its all harmless. At the minute there is a bit of a rivalry between the different model owners of ZX6r's on the ninja forum.............who's is the best yadda yadda yadda. People who don't want to get involved don't get involved. It's as simple as that.

Everyone on this forum has something to offer everyone else in one way or another, whether it be riding skills, bike maintenance, organizing events, computers, cars etc etc. Please don't think that you are not involved because you are, that's the whole ethos of WB which Dabz and Mac based the forum on. Plenty of people to help you whatever the problem is.

But, it's a public forum...........we can't make people join and we can't make people stay. Its all about personal decisions at the end of the day. If you think you are being personally attacked or feel that a certain post is unacceptable inform the mods or management geeks. That is what they are there for.

With this site being relatively small at the moment, people are going to notice other people's post more often. There's no getting away from that. There is no one on this site who i wouldn't sit down with, talk bikes and have a pint with (maybe Blue though if he starts with his jokes ;)). There aren't any bad apples, just different people with different opinions with different ways of putting across their thoughts. I think we all like to have a laugh but without knowing someone well it is sometimes quite hard to put across humour via chat boards, it's a fact that the more you can understand/know a person, the more you understand their humour.

So whats the answer? Well............there isn't a specific answer but there are ways to help. One is to meet up more often.........not necessarily on a rideout but in a 'meet' situation ie pubs where people can chat. I think that the old WB get together which happened for a couple of months should be restarted............what did happen to that anyway? If you find yourself raging at a post by someone, try not to instantly react to it as you may have read it in the wrong way. Either laugh it off, choose to ignore and/or report it to the mods/management for them to deal with.

So lets all chill out............have a group hug..........and stop with all the sniping

ANYWAY! Back to suggestions! How's about this one! I used to be a member on the Ford Escort (yeah, ok bring it on! ;)) Owners Club UK at www.feoc-uk.com. They have a forum which anybody can join, but if you decide, you can join the full membership to the club at £20 per year! That gave you a further 2 areas in the forum, one of which was the Local Meets area. Clever, because, most people want to meet other owners so many paid and joined up for that alone! Also in the £20 join up you got sent a pack with car stickers and pens etc etc in it! Wohoo! But good for raising awareness of the forum.

Anyway, could that be used here perhaps, that would allow people to use the forum, but also encourage a 'club' membership scheme to help finance the forum too! Probably a lot of work to set up but could be worth it.
