Any questions??

Ye, you said you were going to one of them?? any idea which one?

Mac
21-03-06, 03:03 PM
I think I was looking at the 4th June. May is quite a busy month for me. Also gives me time to get used to the bike and its handling etc.

Dutch
21-03-06, 03:07 PM
How long have you had it then?? It is a great bike. One of the ones i wanted to get but the Insurance would have been nearly £800 a year fully comp and the bike i have is only about £380. Big difference when you are on a budget

Mac
21-03-06, 03:15 PM
MMm...Picked it up Friday...lol
Also means weather will be a little warmer too in June

Dutch
21-03-06, 03:19 PM
Ye totally!! so have you got an 06?? Got mine pre-registered so it is on a 55 but i have had it 3 weeks now. Loving every moment of it. Not quite like your bike but enough for me at the moment.
Zebedee and I are going to the one on the 23rd April if we can get in.
I will let you know what it is like when we have done it.

Mac
21-03-06, 03:25 PM
The course is excellent and good to speak to the police riders too for tips. I was talking to some officers at the bike show last year and was really interested in this course....
Also gives you discount for ur insurance too! So all good....
Dutch..would you be interested in doing a write up for the site?

Dutch
21-03-06, 03:37 PM
What kind of write up?? you mean on the day out and what happens?? i will certainly try. I can get a little more information from the people there and tell them that we have a site that can be used to promote the activity and get more information from them.
How does is affect your insurance then?? what do you have to do to prove to them that you ahve done it?

Mac
21-03-06, 03:45 PM
Your given a certificate at the end of the course and you send a copy of that to ur insurance company. Just like your certificate for alarm installation....
Normally gives any thing from 10% up to 25% discount...its a bit like doing pass plus in ur car i guess

Dutch
21-03-06, 03:51 PM
Wow, never knew that!
I will get as much info as possible when i am there and i will write something on an email to you so you can see whether it is worthy of being placed on the site.

Sounds good, I think I will try and get on the one in April. Still trying to get use to the Blackbird so this may well help me to get confindence, as this is my first bike over 600cc.

RE03
21-03-06, 04:20 PM
Last time I did it you only got 5% and that was with Bennetts only... not a full coverage discount >:(. Still bloody good tho, spurred me onto RoSPA observed rides and all it involves 8-) ;)

Dutch
21-03-06, 04:30 PM
RoSPA?? whats that??

RE03
21-03-06, 04:37 PM
Like IAM but cheaper and you get assessed every three years so you dont pick up bad habits.
Not (as everyone imagines) stuck up old farts, jus guys who are willing to impart good roadcraft knowledge keepin my ass off the floor.
£15 to be an associate, then £10 per assessed ride (personal tutor/rideout buddy ;)) then take a test and become bronze , silver or gold (if ur into all that). Gold is the highest civilian grade. Its good fun and VERY useful :)

I've booked myself and Dutch on the course for the 23rd April.

It's got to be worth getting the tips from the police riders, they are bloody good and could crap all over most peoples riding.

especially as the course is free, gotta be a day well spent I think

It says on the letter 'places are limited' so probably better to get in soon. Contact organiser Colin at colinreeves@wiltshire.gov.uk or have a browse around the website www.bikesafe.co.uk which is about Bikesafe generally and then follow the link to the Wiltshire section.

So?

How'd we all do then? [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

BB
15-05-06, 07:47 AM
When I went for my short ride I saw loads of peeps about in their threesomes with the police but everyone was concentrating and hardly anyone was nodding, hehe.

How did you get on? Was it useful?

BB

RE03
15-05-06, 10:05 PM
Haven't done it this time round as I get observed regularly in preps for me Advanced test anyway 8-) but I was jus wondering what peeps thought as there seems to be quite a bit of interest in doin it on here (which can only be a good thing [smiley=thumbsup.gif]).

Hey, I know what you mean, when we're out and under test conditions I hate not bein able to nod to peeps- seems like I'm bein' ignorant :-[ I'm not really :D.... I'M CONCENTRATIN' ;) ;D

BB
15-05-06, 10:08 PM
Yea, I forgive them all! lol

I was out on Sunday and forgive me if I didn’t nod, but after failing to get a response to any of my first few nods I gave up so not to look like a complete foo ...

The format of the day was: 9am coffee, morning safety presentation; few slides... leading into 1/2 the group on observed rides, 2 riders for each cop bike, each taking turns to lead. Feedback on performance, constructive advise. Lunch break. The other 1/2 now disappear on their rides whilst other group have more slides, videos, questionnaire. Coffee. Final talk, more video. Go home 4pm :)

I think you take away from the day as much as you want really - ride as close to how you would normally and you'll get honest feedback that you probably already know, but don’t like to admit. The under lying safety message of the slides was hard to ignore - the video of the young kid hooning through residential roads was rather sobering.

Reminders of how vulnerable we are always welcome and following someone with as much skill as those guys have you are bound to pick up a couple of tips. Overall id recommend the day to everyone - keep an open mind.

Thanks to Colin and the rest of the guys for a top day.

Sounds like a great day...best thing about it is its FREE!

Dabz
16-05-06, 11:37 AM
looking forward to doing mine in June :)

interesting about the nodding though - I've noticed that probably half of the bikers I passed on sunday didn't nod back...perhaps people are starting to not bother?

SkyJawa
29-05-06, 06:28 PM
Got mine on Sun but might have to cancel :(

excellent see you there :)

SkyJawa
30-05-06, 11:58 AM
Scott - not really as was gonna go down without her if that was the case.

But don't think I'm capable of riding my bike at the mo, or at least for any length of time, and its gonna be a long day from Guildford down to Devizes and back :( Gonna try and get out tomorrow and see how I find it before I get in touch with matey...........

SkyJawa
31-05-06, 06:53 PM
Went out with Scott today and it wasn't too bad, but theres no way I could do a day of riding with my injury - got a cracked/fractured rib :(

So me and sis won't make sun so she's emailed to see if we can postpone for a later date..........

Dabz

Just got in, was totally worth it and the weather was perfect. The classroom bits gave some real food for thought and before we even went out I'd learnt some extra skills. The ride was brilliant - there were less of us today so we got to do about 50 miles on one-on-one with a police rider :D He picked out that I ride in too high a gear (since him telling me that the bike feels much better), and that I'm not using the full power of the bandit when overtaking etc. ("you have a bike with stupid amounts of power and torque, so use it! biking isn't just about top end and you have an advantage over a lot of other bikes" were his parting words).

Totally worth doing so anyone who hasn't yet signed up, do it now!

Dabz
28-07-06, 10:34 AM
could anyone who's done bikesafe this year and not commented on this thread leave a quick message on how they found it? would like to pass on to the organisers as a thanks :)
