I know Richie posts up here a fair bit, so thought I'd all let you know that he's in GWH at the mo after an accident on his bike yesterday I think it was. I'm not sure of the full details, but think he slid on gravel and had an argument with a bus. He's stable, conscious and smiling. I will hopefully be going to see him tomorrow.

Get well soon Richie! xxx

GWS Richie, really saddened to hear that you'd lobbed it. Hope you mend quick, and, much LESS importantly, hope the bike isn't too badly mashed. I know from my off (though much less serious), the first thing that goes through your mind is '****, this is gonna hurt!' closely followed by 'My bike!!!' ;)

Keep smiling mate, and GWS.

Speedy recovery Richie, hope not too serious.

Just to let you know that I saw Richie today, and passed on your best wishes. He says thanks for all your kind words and he'll see you soon.

He suffered 2 collapsed lungs (which are doing really well, chest drains are removed now)
A dislocated and fractured shoulder (which has been relocated and fracture sorted)
and a broken wrist which has been wired and has been cast.

He's got freddy kruger type cuts on his neck, and worst of all, his new 2 month old alpinestars leathers were cut off him and have disappeared!

Bless him, he's in really good spirits, and will be up and about in no time. Still in ICU at the moment, with his own room, telly and morphine button.

Get well soon Rich xx

Glad to hear he is in high spirits.

2 collapsed lungs and a dislocated shoulder sounds really painful and very serious. Looks like he is not going to be riding for a while but hopefully he won't miss all of the summer. I hope he won't of lost all of his nerve too.

Other than the presence of a bus does he know how it happened?

Best wishes to Ninja-Richie.

I read about the injuries on MCN-Ninja's and they don't sound nice at all, but at least they are being addressed by the doctor's and Richie is in good spirit.

He must be gutted about his Alpinestar's and he'll be missing his track day now which will be a big pisser for him. :(

He can't remember it at all...this is all stuff he overheard by a biker who was following him. He says he was on the road from Malborough to Pewsey when it happened. Lost the front on gravel, bike went one way, he went the other into a bus.

I doubt he will have lost his nerve, he's a brave man ;D

That road has some tight old bends on it, and he's not the first to lose it on there. That's the trouble with rural roads, a bit of rain and then silt across the bends, not good.

HC - I don't think so as AFAIK he's already finished his "active" work.

went to see him last night, he's out of intensive care now and on KINGFISHER WARD if anyone wants to pop in and see him.

His chest drains are out and he's hoping to only be in for another week or so. Still very battered and buised but on the mend

Dabz

sounds like a trip for the weekend then :D

Cheers for the update Foo. I've been reading about his progress on MCN Ninja's and I was going to cut and paste some information over here when there was more available.

Some friends went to see Richie tonight. He's getting there, although he needs help to get him up out of bed, he can sit in a chair, and stand on his own (bless).

He's struggling to open all the parcels being sent to him because of his cast, so the nurses are helping him :D

You should see some of the crap he's got..a hairbrush, countless womens mags, and some small army men (the toy variety) hehe

So Dabz, did you pop in to see Richie or did you head to the coast instead?

It's good to read that he's on the mend though and fingers crossed he'll be back online soon - but hopefully not for a few weeks yet as I need to make up some points on him in the Fantasy Football! ;) ;D

Dabz
26-03-07, 09:48 AM
neither unfortunately :( wasn't very well on Sunday so stayed at home all day :(

Just to let you all know he has moved wards again, he is now in the Brunel treatment centre round the back of the main hospital building in a 'room with a view'
Ward is called Ampney ward and is on the 3rd floor, he is still in until they have another look at him on Wednesday and visiting is 2 till 8. He is in typical Richie humour as he was threatening to stuff me in the boot of the Scooby when I suggested it could be the source of the next 'how many people in a car Welsh ninjafest challenge'

He's refusing to shave until he gets out, too many reruns of the great escape methinks and he's getting into 'What not to Buy' which is worrying. For me it was good to see he is very much in recovery mode and he is looking forward to being put soon.

The above is taken from a post on MCN Ninja's - all sounds good! :)

It's OK schwee, he's tried to post on here but to due technicalities he's not been able to. :)

OK Richie is still having problems so he's asked me to post this on his behalf:-

fookin hell..........the things you have to do to get some choccy fudge!!

well i finally left hospital last night. they looked after me very well but it was a relief to get out. i don't think they expected me to leave so soon after the accident but with all the kind presents and cards i recieved it lifted my morale a lot (also made me laugh but that just caused pain! lol)

so i'm now staying at mate's house for a while and hopefully square away all my admin

the bike is got picked up last night (£276 to pay!!), so hopefully over the next few days i'll have a fair idea what needs to get done to fix it.

the way i'm feeling at the mo is that i'm going to give road riding a miss for a while, possibly permanently, and just stick to the track where there aren't any buses cos they are harder than they look.

so a big thanks to everyone on here for your kind thoughts.

I read somewhere that a lot of professional racers don't ride much or at all on the road due to the perceived danger.

I was cut up by a car the other day and despite being his fault he added insult to almost injury by flashing his hazard lights and giving me the bird. Suffice to say I felt my blood pressure a notch and I was not terribly pleased or impressed with his behaviour. >:(

I guess it does not have to be your fault to drop it whilst on a bike.

Hi Richie, I have not been on the site for a while so I have only just found out about your bus related antics! Glad to hear that you are on the mend. I have to admit that even after my little spill my confidence was shot for quite a while.

So me and Nokesy wish you all best and hope that you fix up nice and quick!

good to have you back (albeit via scott at the mo until I can figure out why you can't log in!) mate. Don't spose I could sway you to one last road ride for my tuition :P

Yep, well, student nurse for another 12wks then I'm let loose on an unsuspecting public ... well, I am now, but so far so good :D Thought I had it in my profile but must be on WR, not here. Orthopaedics is where I am and hoping to stay but am also a Reiki Practitioner, so wanna combine the two in the not too distant future :)

Mate, first chance I've had to post. Hope your on the mend. If you didn't want to post the bike mags out you should have said, I'd have bought my own. ;)

Keep smiling, hope to catch up with you after June when I'm back.
