Scooter boys, and girls

Hi All,
Some of you may know me from various meets others will not. I work for the police :o . I work up and around the highworth area. I get LOADS of complaints about scooters dashing about the area and being a general annoyance to everyone :-? .
I want to organise a bike meet somewhere in or around Highworth Faringdon area to try to get the local twist and go brigade to attend and realise that being a "biker" isn't standing on street corner and drinking then riding your bike home! ::)

Anyone with ideas of how to start up a new meet or Rally then please chuck your hand up as I have a bit of weight behind me now and can get things moving quickly! :D

P.S. Nurburgring trip on July the 4th, I'm going on my old plodder not the blade as am going to italy after. I have done a fair few laps, so i'm happy to offer a line guide to any newbies ::) . I will be on a BMW r1100rt complete with Pillion so any bike should be able to keep up!!!

wb mate to the club i have got one or 2 ideas to help you out cause at the moment i hate scooters as they do there cbt and then they seem to forget what they was taught i used to live in the swindon area and the amount of scooter boys and girls i have seen just dossing around street corners and causing trouble ( not wanting to speculate i am sure my bike was nicked by a scooter owner ) or if they are not causing trouble then they hair around town at all hours of the night. and i know alot of this is caused as most scooter riders are 16 17 and there for cant go out drinking legally and there fore have nothing better to do with there time.

so i think it would be a good idea that some sort of club is started up to make scooter riders aware of the dangers on the road the amount of times i have been twoing and froing on my bike and have seen roads shut cause some one has been hit of ther bike thanks to mr inconsiderate car driver just sqeezing by in the gap ( so glad i am not in the police would be booking car drivers left right and centre lol ) cause scooter rider cant say hey look i pay my tax mot and ins for my wheels i will use my road and not let u cars or anything bully me over in to the verge ( where most scooters tend to ride )

so i say fair play to you mr police man for wanting to take a stand and do something for them well done you and give you self a pat on the back :)

Fair play to you for trying to sort out these herbert's. I try to educate them when i take them on their CBT's that they will be frowned apon when they are out and about in groups hanging around street corners making a pest of themselves, it just seems to go in one ear and out the other.

This time of year is worse as the days are longer and the weather is warmer, which makes them believe that they are "Road Proof" as most of them now wear nothing more than a tee shirt. I believe that if you could show them some photos of what "Road Rash" looks like or photos of accidents then this might convince them to ride a bit safer. I know it all sounds a bit gorie but it might be the evidence and proof that they need, plus also teach them Etiquette when riding in groups. If you needed a hand I would be willing to help "Work Permitting"

Happy to attend and help out, my sister, brother in law and their 2 kids live in highworth, and their eldest is deaf, he doesn't hear them, so happy to help educate some muppets!

I am willing to knee cap a few, as we have trouble with them pesky varmits around our area, as I have a path that goes behind my house from one street to another and they use that as a go between, and by the time you have called the cops and they turn up the little varmits have long gone.

It may not be what Rob was talking about, but hey, i am with you on that one Igbell. Little S**ts that they are. A bit of hard core education may be the way ahead. Thats my own personel view, but still willing to help in a more orthodoxed manner.

I think the hardest thing will be getting them to turn up in the first place. They will need something cool to entice them. I have two boys on scooters (one no longer as he's on 4 wheels) - and it's darn hard getting through to them. Thankfully they dont hang around causing trouble, but just getting them to wear some kind of safety gear is hard - taking the keys off them works when I'm here, but know behind my back they do as they like.

The scooter boys I know feel like they are in a different world to "bikers" and stick together. Would be nice for them to realise that we can mix and share tips etc as well as socialise. Maybe an "event" of some sort - maybe if they could see a stunt rider not only doing things on a big bike, but a scooter too - may bring the two genres together (and hopefully not encourage them to "try this at home").

It's just a thought... but cant see how the hardened scooter gangs will be enticed along to anything other than their own street corners. (sorry to sound pesimistic.. just being realistic) ;)

I grew up near Highworth and hung about on my AP50, believe me there isn't much else to do there of an evening if you're 16 or 17!! Are the kids on twist'n'gos interested in bikes or just waiting until they can get a body kitted Vauxhall Nova?! Good luck with it anyway!

I'll be glad when they change the ages and how to obtain a licence later on this year...I never got into bikes till I was 19 and to be honest I think even that's too young I didn't have a clue then!

This CBT stuff though needs to be canned...just having a quick whizz about with an instructor for a day then automatically being let loose on the public via 2 wheels is just plain wrong!

Good to see someone trying the "education" route, but think you might be fighting a loosing battle on this one.

OK, how is this then? turn up for the day on your scooter and L plates. Spend a couple of hours listening to a police biker in very much the same way to bike safe for all those that have attended. Show them some Blood and guts pictures, I have access to these and I can even try to obtain permission from families to show them what people look like when they are frozen.

already a large scooter club in the swindon area but at the end of the day if these riders wanted to be part of a club they would, the danger is they start to think its a lecture which will kill any interest before it starts

Sounds good.. just asked my boys (being typical teens) they thought it sounds worth turning up for ;D Willing to help out anyway I can, as long as I'm not working or have prior arrangements. If you want some Radio publicity give me a shout as I have some contacts via BBC Swindon/Wiltshire and GWR FM (Probably the better one to use!) Also might be worth trying to see if we could get someone in the media to attend... (GWR FM might charge for this tho unless youcan pull a few strings at your end!!)

Ive got a alley next to my house, affectionatly known as "Dog sh*t alley" and we are always having scooters & mini motos going up and down it, 2-up, no helmets, etc, etc. Ive tried to do my bit but they tend to say - please go away, you nice person. (Polite translation!!!) There a chap 2 doors down from me who takes great pleasure in reporting the little "Darlings" to the Police, so they will get the bikes crushed!! He got a bit p*ssed off when he found out my son has got a mini moto, as he came running out to catch him, saw me and ran, growling under his breath!! ;D 8-)

Ive been in touch with BBC Wiltshire & Swindon and they are VERY KEEN to do a feature on the event if/when we can get it off the ground. I will get in contact with GWR FM when we have a date set!

BBC Wilts might even be prepared to do an O.B for us as well!!!

This sounds like a really good idea - I've shocked a few scooter riders lately by nodding as I pass...not sure they know what to make of it :P Some of them ride like lunatics and I know everyone feels invinsible at that age, but some education and perhaps to see that bikers don't ride like they do and we still have just as much fun might help them out

when I had my 50cc at 16, I got together with a couple of mates from school in the evenign and weekends, and we would go off and explore wiltshire, just ride out down the country lanes with no destination in mind except 'we have not been down here before!'. Once we got into that we stopped blatting around the streets, was much more fun to be out in the sticks, with ur mates, with your first bit of real independance! Mind you, it was much cheaper for fuel then, could afford it on my pocket money / paper round money!

Remember riding to the seaside once on my moped (a very very long time ago) .. a long and lonely ride, blimey it was such a long ride. Wish there had been a club or something I could have joined to find other riders. Hope this takes off... be good for them to get out rather than hanging round town being annoying.

Love nodding to scooters... its the reaction they give, shock and amazement! Well they are two wheels, doesnt matter how big it is.

Just trawling through some of the posts to see if anyone else owns a large cc auto and came across this post. Apparently I'm unique. :D

I have to admit that the little scrotes around here aren't much different. I followed three leaving Melksham towards the countrywide round-a-bout. They were all over the two lanes leading towards the round-a-bout cutting up cars a a chap on a bike. All three of them wearing thin jackets or jumpers, no gloves and tracky bottoms and trainers despite it being just before Xmas.

How did your educational day go or didn't it get off the ground?
