Hey, I have just got my offroad bike MOT'd and i am going to go play in the mud after work tomorrow, i have a few questions though about where i can go on the bike.
1, Can i just ride the bike on any lane or track i see at the side of the road or are some are of them not for motorcycles to use?
2, Has any one got any idea how many miles a standard 2002 wr250 can go for before it needs more fuel?

Cheers Don

you cant ride any track/lane etc, footpaths and bridleways are a no go area and there are a few others grab yourself a OS map of your area and see where the Bridleways and footpaths are on that .there use to be lanes etc called B.O.A.T or RUPP's but think they have been given different names now.
i got a marked up map of of the wilts area but its about 10 years old so it is out of date as a lot has changed now with regulations etc.
i know a definitive map can be seen in trowbridge but prob best to find some one who has a upto date one and go out with them or join a local TRF ( trailriders fellowship )they will have all info you need to know but dont expect them to give you map info on your first meeting.

Not sure about WR250 milage per tank but some one on here will tell you what to expect

I have a WR450 (which actually has a smaller tank) and will get about 70 miles or so onroad before reserve. Obviously offroad you will get less (higher revs, lower speeds) but you'll still get more out of your tank than me!

So I'd guess about maybe about 70miles offroad on your bike?

As for tracks, deffo get an OS as Alan says. Used to be that they'd let you search the website and show a small area on the map which you could drag around and screenshot to make yourself a free personal map but alas, it looks like they canned that :(

www.openstreetmap.org does a good job differentiating tracks, byways, bridleways, paths etc. I don't know how well it compares in completeness with the OS map, but it's usually right up to date.

There certainly seems to be lots of detail around the Ridgeway by Barbury Castle (http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=51.4863&lon=-1.729&zoom=13&layers=M) and on Salisbury Plain (http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=51.2481&lon=-1.7284&zoom=13&layers=M).

Thats a handy link ro.
About a year ago i remember reading on the net that there was a app for Android phones using OS Landranger maps, not sure if it is still on the App's store,i never looked into it as i havent got a Android phone.
But you cant beat a good OS Landranger map though.
UPDATE
here is the link for the Android app http://www.pocketgamer.org/os-map
