View Full Version : Seat Grip
Can anyone suggest a way for me to get more grip on my bike seat....
Basically I bought some new leathers and now whenever I brake or accellorate hard I find myself sliding forward (nuts into the petrol tank ouch :-[ ) or backwards into the wife who then shouts that I'm trying to knock her off the back.
Can you buy anything that can make the bike seat less slippery?
You need somthing like this:

I went to Wilkinsons & bought a roll of anti-slip matting, cut it to size & attached it to the pillion seat - cost less than £2 It's also great laid in the boot of the car too :)

The triboseat if i remember correctly is only for the pillion seats :-/
You could try halfords for a grippy boot liner and make your own one up [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

Yep, Steve got one of those, most annoying thing I've ever used, but then I don't have testicles ;D The thing that it sure works, you'll never move again.
On the other hand, Martin's option seems as good yet a lot cheaper.
Try gripping the tank with your knees - you should use your legs to support yourself on the bike and leave your arms free to control everything at the bars rather than supporting and bracing your bodyweight...
Stomp Grips help with getting a grip on the tank - check them out

Agree with Scotty use stomp grip mate although have heard it will eat into your leathers
No, it's pretty benign to leathers, it's soft rubbery pimples really, nothing too bad
I've got Stomp Grips on my SV as I was sliding forward under breaking, they worked fine, but a week later I changed from textile trousers to leather and this was even better.
On the negative side, I have had to get used to changing gear again as I can't slide my knee up the tank anymore, although as with most things I'm used to this now.

Cheers for all the suggestions I will have to try the stomp grips and see if that makes it easier to ride

Rich's got them as well, he (like Gerry) swears by them.
I've never had this issue - either I don't brake very hard or have super strong thighs to grip the tank! ;D Going to pretend it's the latter! ;D

I have this issue. I dont like the look of the Stomp grips though :'(
Don't polish the bike seat or the seat of your leathers! :D

put your leathers on and get a mate to drag you along on your bum behind his bike to get the leather all roughed up and gripy

celulose thinners on the seat cover! but go careful, it removes a tiny layer and leaves a dull matt finish, super grippy tho.....
we used to do this to all of our offroad bikes until they finally wised up and made grippy seat covers......
how about getting the seat recovered in a grippier material.....
