Photo dates

After chatting with Dabz on Friday, we've decided to add some extra dates to give people more options..... and essentially more time to make arrangements to get there.

They're all still Sundays and the timings will still be:

Arrive 8am
Photo 9am (Sharp!...We have to be gone by 10am)

These have to be the last date options so this is the final poll, otherwise we'll all be 6 foot under before any photos are taken!!

Sorry guys. Look back though the first post we ran about a month ago
It's called Mahooosive wiltshire bikers group photo... or something like that.

Basically we can have the photo taken at Longleat with their consent but they needed to know numbers and a date.
The dates is the 10th Oct, arrive at longleat for about 8 -9am for a photo at 9.15/930 then have to be gone before 10am..... hopefully for a big ride-out

Hi Liam,

I have checked with both our grounds manager and house steward who are both happy for the Wiltshire Bikers to have a photo on the front forecourt of Longleat House. Entrance onto and off the Longleat Estate will be through the main entrance (Longcombe Drive). Follow brown tourist signs from the Warminster/ Frome roundabout, passing Center Parcs and the Longleat Forestry. The turning to Longleat is on the RH side, and signposted by a brown sign again.

Please note that once parked on the front forecourt both entrance paths down to the house need to be kept clear in case access is needed for emergency vehicles

Once you have an idea on rough numbers and the date please let me know so I can let relevant parties at Longleat aware.

Prior to the event can you also please supply me with evidence of the groups public liability insurance - We would need to see that you have at least £5 million.

If you have any further questions or queries please do not hesitate to contact me.

I have the info you've requested. We'd like to do the photo on the morning of the 10th October (Sunday). We'll arrive as a group between 8 - 8.30am and come in the route you advised. We'll have the photo at approx. 9-9.15am and be out of your hair before 10am.
There will be NO MORE than 40 bikes and one van (which will be the platform for our photographer)

We don't have any insurance as such(other than our bike insurance), this is because we are not a Motorcycle club...or a club of any sort actually, we pay no membership fees and accept our own individual responsibility for all we do together. We are just a keen bunch who love bikes and meeting fellow like minded bikers. We meet up most weeks and thought it would be great to finish the year with a group photo at a famous Witlshire landmark. If you'd like us to sign some kind of waver then we would be happy to do so.

This date shouldn't be a problem but I will need to run it by our grounds manager to double check.
As you don't have any insurance I will need to get you to fill in and sign the attached form if ok? Can you also confirm how and when you would be able to pay for the event. Payment will be required either prior to the photo or whilst on site. - Charge of £4 per person.

Hi Steve, many thanks for such a speedy reply.
I have signed the document you sent and will pop it in the post first thing addressed to yourself.
With regards to the monies, i will collect off each individual on the day (cash) and will hand it over to one of your staff members. I'd like to have paid in full prior to the photo, but just know that a few 'last minuters' will attend on the day! Best hand it over in one lump rather than two!

Basil - in the other thread (meets & rideouts section) a load of us trowbo's are meeting at McDonalds at 8.30 to ride over together. would probably suggest any non-trowbridge people meet us at Warminster services at 8.45 ready for a ride-through by the Trowbridge lot (not another stop)?

Hi Liam,

Just to confirm the 10th October should be fine for the photo.
Please note that when the bikes are parked up on the front forecourt they will need to be on the concrete only (not grass) and no bikes should be left unattended.
If you can collect cash from everyone attending (£4 per person) and make the payment at visitor information, based in the main square at Longleat.

I haven't received the form back in the post yet although I'm sure it's in the postal system somewhere!

I hope the event goes well.

We've not got much time at Longleat tomorrow and there's several different photos that we want to take. It's going to be fast paced and resemble organised chaos!!....For that reason can i please ask that everyone listens to myself and Dabz for instruction, please don't be offended if we're shouting and please respond quickly to the different formations...the quicker we can be setting up the more photos we can get. Robin...as discussed last night, If you can be at the front with me on the lead in then i can get everyone to stop at the main entrance while you quickly set up at the bottom of the drive and get some good shots of the main body coming down the drive en-masse.

There's going to be about 50 people there tomorrow. PLEASE- The only 2 voices you should hear are mine and Dabz's, help us out by keeping the noise to a minimum and being quick to change formations.....your help will be most appreciated [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

My rear tyre does not have the required ~700 miles (250mi each way and allowing up to 200 for the ride) life left in it that I need to get there and back and complete the ride out.

Doesn't help the way I ride it either. Its a year old (only just by a few weeks) and has 6500 miles on it, and this will be tyre #3 in a couple of hundred more miles. Expensive toy these sports bikes!

I'm not sure how much scrapping we got in, I think the people around us saw what was happening and got in quick, hands did seem to come for everywhere! All that happened was he bit my elbow, I'm guessing pulling my hair was out of the question as I just had my head shaved, and with all the people around holding him, he didn't manage to get to his handag, tetanus and rabies jab later all's good!

I would like to apologise though, it's not the impression that we want for new members, or for old members either. Unfortunately we have this former member who we banned for insulting quite a few people (and their kids as well), and those he didn't insult he pissed off, and for some reason he thinks that being banned still means he can turn up to all the meets, events and ride outs. He justifies his actions by saying that his friends want him there (although from all the handshakes, 'well dones' and 'about time' I got, I'm not sure any of them where there!). The guy doesn't take a hint, or even being told directly, in fact he just rode ahead of us and got to Weymouth before we did.

So I apologise to all members, old and new, for my part in todays incident, I hope it didn't spoil what was otherwise a great day, and I hope it didn't spoil your impression of what, in my mind, is an amazing group of people and a great community.

Fantastic day! The riding was fantastic and much different than I expected. Was my first official ride with everyone, and will defiantly be coming next time! Get some Wiltshire Bikers miles I guess.

What a FAB morning!!! HUGE well done to Basil and Tash for organising and taking the photos, you are both stars!!! It worked out really well, would have been nice to have a bit more time and more photos but hey we've done it once we can do it again!! It was defo worth getting up for ( not that I slept last night - 1hr sleep! :() and I am sure everyone will be thrilled with the results...so a great big pat on the backs of the organisers!!! The incident when we got back to Warminster Services did spoil it but only for a few short minutes. I do have to say this though... I have re read the threads and can see nowhere that is says we were going back to Warminster after the shoot ( please correct me if I have missed it?? :-/) so I assume the only way the ex member knew we were going to be there was to have been told as his arrival at the services was spot on to ours, take from that what you will but I would like to say that today was a Wiltshire Bikers organised event and ride out, I understand that some people are still on speaking terms with the ex member and if they want to ride with him then they should arrange their own ride outs and not invite him onto the WB ones as he has been told on a number of occasions that he is not welcome.
Hunar, there is no need to apoligise at all and I am grateful that you had the balls to speak to him as I know from personal experience he does not listen when he is told to stop upsetting people so thank you. I will say no more on the matter as I think enough time has been wasted on the subject but please people bear in mind WB events, ride outs and meets are for WBers!

To end this post I will say all in all it was a fantastic day with great people (yes even you basil ;):-* lol), the ride back home with the mighty Hunar was a great potter, the wx was perfect and the company as always great!!

We (Gemma, Rosie, Ade, Star & Scotty) stayed a bit longer and some had a very civilised cup of tea before heading home - very nice.

Really liked the beach racing, great fun, I bet they really ache tomorrow morning, especially those in the “expert race” which went on for ages.
Thought I’d jot this down before jumping in the shower to de-sand myself.

Hope the photo’s come out well, judging by Tash’s previous pics I’m sure they will be great. Well done Basil & Dabs in organising us rabble

Great ride there & back, thanks to Scotty & Stu for a job well done.

It was also Gemma’s first try of her heated top which was a great success (even though a person with normal blood wouldn’t be cold anyway) I’ve even got a red head to prove the sun came out 8-)

It worked out really well, would have been nice to have a bit more time and more photos but hey we've done it once we can do it again!! It was defo worth getting up for ( not that I slept last night - 1hr sleep! :() and I am sure everyone will be thrilled with the results...so a great big pat on the backs of the organisers!!! The incident when we got back to Warminster Services did spoil it but only for a few short minutes. I do have to say this though... I have re read the threads and can see nowhere that is says we were going back to Warminster after the shoot ( please correct me if I have missed it?? :-/) so I assume the only way the ex member knew we were going to be there was to have been told as his arrival at the services was spot on to ours, take from that what you will but I would like to say that today was a Wiltshire Bikers organised event and ride out, I understand that some people are still on speaking terms with the ex member and if they want to ride with him then they should arrange their own ride outs and not invite him onto the WB ones as he has been told on a number of occasions that he is not welcome.
Hunar, there is no need to apoligise at all and I am grateful that you had the balls to speak to him as I know from personal experience he does not listen when he is told to stop upsetting people so thank you. I will say no more on the matter as I think enough time has been wasted on the subject but please people bear in mind WB events, ride outs and meets are for WBers!

To end this post I will say all in all it was a fantastic day with great people (yes even you basil ;):-* lol), the ride back home with the mighty Hunar was a great potter, the wx was perfect and the company as always great!!

A massive thanks for all that turned up....and thanks for all the bike-dancing-helmet-on-off-up-down-left-right-cha cha cha (what a well oiled machine we are)!!! It was like dancing with the stars..... with bikes!!! Could've done with some brighter weather....... but, it is Autumn and the sun certainly wasn't shy later!!
I love that ride to the airfield and it was painful to watch and wave you off on your way to Weymouth :'(.......but i did have a cracking ride back and a lovely roast at The Bell in Rode with Tash.

Looking at all the things the group has been up to, it makes me feel like there's not too much we can't achieve AND i'm really excited about the meeting on the 29th (spot on Kev [smiley=thumbsup.gif]) i hope people come with some cracking adventures for us to get our teeth stuck into and get organised and i know next year is gonna be a winner.

I'll sort out photo distribution with Dabz [smiley=thumbsup.gif] [smiley=thumbsup.gif].....How exciting ;D :D

The "incident" - My two penneth's worth!!
This is without a doubt a cracking bunch of people - a TEAM. We all bring to the table a mixed bag of personalities and characters, with differing strengths and weaknesses, opinions and morals. By joining a forum you have to accept that and understand that. You must also accept that you're not going to get on with everyone, especially when the TEAM is so large...hey, we're only human right? We're pretty much programmed to NOT get on with everyone!

If someone warrants banning then it must be made crystal clear from the off that they are not welcome at all to anything regarding WB. ANYTHING - that way we can all support the decision and help enforce it as such.
Now i'm only being devil's advocate here so no abuse please BUT...... Finbar has been to many meets and ride outs and even IOW trips ect... I don't think he was given any CRYSTAL CLEAR message he wasn't welcome, in fact i would say he had mixed messages about the whole thing, i've spoken to him on rides and seen that many many other people have as well. I feel it was such a shame that it ended in violence, it's very upsetting to see.
We could have AND should have handled that so much better....and Hunar, that is by no means a dig ok buddy [smiley=thumbsup.gif]
Maybe a banning procedure should be discussed on the 29th so this doesn't happen again.

He has been told he's not welcome, he chooses to ignore it. He turns up to all the WB events, despite knowing he is not welcome. Unfortunately while people still talk to him, to remain civil which i understand, he will call those people 'friends who want him there', and thats all the justification he needs to turn up. The only way to make sure he doesn't turn up is for everyone to ignore him when he does, until that happens he will probably carry on doing it for no other reason than he likes pissing people off, I think he considers it a challenge to anger and offend everyone he meets.

Maybe it coould AND should have been handled better by everyone ignoring him when he turns up and telling him to go away, but as not everyone does this, he keeps turning up, but then it's easy to critisise afterwards.

I'm not taking it as a dig chief, I agree it could have been handled differently, I have offered my resigination as a member of the management team and forum, because I don't think it's an image we need, and made my apologies. I was pointing out the way I think it should have been handled, by everyoine ignoring him and telling him to leave WB events.

Chief if you request a rock tune and I have it in my collection and there is time I will play it, no worries, unless of course it's the osmonds and crazy horses, which obviously isn't a rock tune, despite what Amanate thinks (I'm on tonight by thwe way, 10pm - midnight, www.bikerfm.co.uk, but I do have to warn listeners that the some people may find the content of the show offensive, outrageous, childish, possibly indecent, hillarious, inspiring or even life changing!)

The management have made it perfectly clear to fin that he is not welcome at WB events, I believe that most, if not all of us, have made that point perfectly clear. The problem is that fin likes to tease and push people, and he knows that we can't technically stop him from riding wherever he likes on the public highways, and he gets a nice buzz from turning up and ruining everyones day with his presence, no idea why he gets a kick from it, but there you go, I guess to some people it gives them a sense of power which they can't get any other way.

Why shouldn't we rely on members to help enforce the rules? how are we supposed to enforce a banning if people talk to him and invite him to events? We tell him to leave as he's not welcome, while everyone is saying 'Hi Fin, how's it going mate?', how's that goign to work? you've seen what happens when someone does confront him individually, he wasn't going to leave, he had every intention of staying, even though he knew he wasn't welcome. In fact when he did leave he went straight down to Weymouth and waited for us to arrive, so not sure how we are supposed to enforce the rules without the help of the forum members as well.

Fin obviously wouldn't tell you he was banned, I know a couple of guys he also got this way, just told them he wasn't on the forum and could they post for him. They met him at a non WB event, and as they didn't know the full story (as he obviously wouldn't tell them), they talk to him, although having seen him on a few of our trips they where getting the idea he wasn't popular, but no idea how unpopular, now they know, and he's not very popular with them either. This is how he justifies turngin up to WB events, as he said himself on Sunday 'my friends want me here', I know people don't like him but talk to him out of politeness, that's what he classes as a friend, people who talk to him. You can also raise the point again, that if his 'friends' want and invite him to turn up to WB events, IF they know he's banned, how are we supposed to enforce the rule? Personally I would hope his 'friends' would respect the descision and wishes of the vast majority of the other members of this forum and not invite him along, and tell him not to come when he says he will attend, if you want to ride with him or meet him somewhere then do it another time somewhere he is welcome and not at WB meets, obviously, if they know he's banned. Unfortunately he won't tell new friends that info, and then we get these kinds of problems.

We could put a sticky post up about banned members, but I think the opinion of the management team, is that we rather we didn't have too, in the 5 years or so this forum has been active we have only had to ban about 5 usernames, and some of those where just spam accounts, so it's not somethgin we do on a regular basis, or somethign we enjoy having to do, but sometimes you have no choice, if you give someone enough chances and they still carry on, you can either lose members or ban them. I think the worry is that a sticky'd post about banned members may be seen as a sign we just through the ban hammer around for the fun of it, maybe we need to do it, the post that is, not the ban hammer.

It's also been suggested to make certain sections members only, or the whole forum private, and a few other ideas to restrict access I don't think Dabz wants any of these things to have to happen, and neither do the admins, and to be honest it's not hard to re-register with a new username, I wouldn't be suprised if he has already done that, and the forum is public view so everyone can read it without having to log in, it's always been that way, and this is the only time it's really been a problem, I don't see the need to change a system that everyone seems happy with, that seems to work (judging from the membership increases we're getting), just because one person decides to be an arse just because he can. It's much easier for everyone to let him know he shouldn't attend WB events and to ignore him when he does, I appreciate everyone is different, and that he may have friends who are members of this forum, but if they don't agree with his banning, why are they still here? why can't they respect the wishes of everyone else and meet with him at other times? like I said though, IF they know he's banned.

It's not an easy problem to solve, well it is just by ignoring him, but if thats not likely to happen, then it's not an easy problem to solve, but what I believe will happen if he continues to turn up and no one does anything, is that people will leave or stop posting and just communiate through PM's with people, ride outs organised in secret to ensure he doesn't turn up, people going home or somewhere different to the rest of the group when he does, I already know of people who stay at home rather than go out, in case he is there. Doesn't sound like fun to me, all this because one guy doesn't get it? yup back to skool dayz, but then we are dealing with a child, so it shouldn't come as a great suprise.

The point of my first post was merely to act as Devil's advocate (which i did write in my post).

Your last post above is probably a post that should have been issued at Finbar's point of banning. That way everyone would have been informed without confusion. If the prefered method of keeping banned members away from meets is for the majority to ignore them then surely everyone must be aware that they're banned in the first place.

He bit me, it's not really a massive injury, his jaw isn't that strong, for all the exercise it gets mouthing off, to be honest its more comical than painful hehe, back to skool daze indeed, I think that was actually the last time someone bit me, in my junior school, well there was that girl that time in the states, but I paid her so I don't think it counts.

After all his threats, and mouthing off, all he manages to do is bite me, honestly you couldn't make it up, I'm pissing myself laughing, I think he might be safe the next time we meet, just on the basis I might not be able to stand up as I'm laughing so hard my legs give out, and the sight of Kirsty holding his nose to make him let go will stay with me for a very long time, it was brilliant, there did seem an odd number of hands going for his throat when people realised what he was doing though.

As for finally getting the message, I know most are optimistic, but I believe you're being rather gracious in your allowance of his available intelligence, but then I am a sceptic about most things, I grant you it's possible that he might, but I think it's more likely that we may not see him at any WB only events, but you can bet your bollocks to a barn dance he will be at most of the public events we decide to attend.

I would also like to point out / remind people that the people he speaks to when he does turn up at our events are NOT always his friends, they are just people who he knows he will get a response from because they are just being polite, they came for a fun day out, not an argument, so keep it polite and civil for everyone else, alas I am not as polite and civil as they are. I am also aware that the person who did tell him we where meeting at warminster did so without any malice or intent, and at the moment I believe they are worried about speaking up in case they get lynched, I don't know who it was, I trust the person who told me to be honest with me, but I really don't want to see that type of thing coming out of this, it's really not the way to deal with it, I don't think you need to reveal who you are or make an apology for it, as I gather you didn't know the full extent of the resentment to him from the rest of the group, I doubt Fin would have been that honest about it, and I can appreciate that if you did know, that you wouldn't have told him, no worries we can leave it there.

As for a sticky'd forum post, it's something the admin team will be discussing, and can be discussed in public at the meeting if needed.

I would like to point out I am a libertarian and not a librarian, and that I always check to make sure the spell checker has got it right, before i click change, but as I am sure you can tell, I don't use a spell checker, typo's have their benefits though as people can usually tell what you mean, for example, if I called fin a count I am sure most people would understand.

I will openly admit to talking to Finbar at the Polebarn meets and on the bike meets he has been too, partly out of politeness because I find it hard to be rude to people (despite what some people may think, lol), but partly because I was under the impression that he was only banned from the forum and that we couldn't do anything to stop him attending meets. I also didn't have a clue as to the full reasons why he was banned which may have helped people like me from ignoring him and enforcing the ban. (not a criticism just an idea).

I must say fair play to you for having the balls to tell Finbar to sling his hook and too not respond to his insults and the assault upon you.

Hopefully now, he will no longer be an issue and we can all enjoy what we love the best and that is biking and in particular WB's biking.

One of the most difficult things in the world is pushing your own views on others. Ok, that 'person' was banned from the forum, and maybe it should have been mentioned to new people joining but in the same light I personally would have found it hard to go up to newbies and tell them that 'he' is not a pleasant chap and not to get involved with him (which is not the sort of behaviour usually associated with adults)
I guess when he turned up with his 'woman of the moment' he did seem to have improved (if only for a short time) so I think people were giving him a second chance (or was it 3rd,4th or 5th) but he then reverted back to his old ways of being extremely unpleasant to others.
This was a situation that hasnt come up in this way before so it was difficult to know the best way to handle it.

But hopefully it wont come up again and now the lid can be put on this yukky can of worms and be thrown away and forgotten........time to move on and try to forget the whole matter ???

As a relatively new member to the Forum I have to agree that the incident referred to was unfortunate. When things calmed down, I took the personal view that **** happens, let's get on and have a brill day (which I did). I am not up to speed on the history of this dispute which culminated in Sunday's fracas. I believe therefore it would be inappropriate for me to comment on this particular case. However, on the general point of banned site members attending WB organised events, I think two conundrums exist which are difficult to solve. Firstly on ignoring unwanted attendees at WB events; All members attending a particular WB event would need to know the identity of the gatecrasher and would have to make up their own minds up as to whether or not they wished to speak to him/her. As you rightly say Hunar, out of politeness, some people find it very difficult to ignore someone who engages with them in conversation. Secondly,prohibiting banned site members from attending WB organised events; Although WB is effectively a private club most of its events take place on/in public areas (re roads). Doubtless, like all the WB members, I do not wish to see a repeat performance of last Sunday in the future. I know this post may appear negative to some, but I personally believe that Collectively, we need to focus on the aforesaid issues in order to find a solution to this difficult problem.
