View Full Version : Need a favour - bike viewing
Hello nice biker people *shameless buttering up* ;)
Might one of you be free this weekend to view a bike with me - it's a Kawasaki ER-5, but as it's unrestricted I need someone with 3rd party cover for other bikes to give it a bit of a test ride for me and make sure all is well. And also to give it a bit of a once over, as it's been well used.
I know you are all lovely people and someone will be able to help me ;D

Does it come with the restrictor kit?
Wherabouts is the bike to?
It's in Westbury at the moment.
No restrictor kit with it, I'd need to get that later if I bought it (which would lead onto another big favour to ask from someone with a multibike policy! Due to the latest government 'good idea')
I'm in Swindon - but I'd be happy to take a ride down and have a look if you like.
Drop me a PM if you want - I'm free sat but not sun (the bikes are getting Nooj'd on sunday :D )

We could pull a plugcap off and have a new 250 gang? Wouldnt have to restrict it either? :D

I recall a thread I viewed a while back which somebody "supercharged" a GS500 engine by using one piston to ramfeed the other one as a 250cc single via a reed valve arrangement!
Genius... will see if I can find it...

Get on it! Plenty to keep you occupied there... ;)

No, Stanley will be staying and continuing with the commuting duties - he's does it too cheaply to use a bigger bike and put the resulting miles on it! The big bike will be just for fun, and temporary work duties when Stanley needs repairs :)
Anyway, went to see it today and had a good look round (or should I say Neil had a good look round!) I don't think I'm going for this one - a few too many faults for the money.
So, eyes and ears open still ;)
Was that the one I saw advertised? I haven't seen any others advertised but I'll keep my eye open for you.

What did it need? What price was it? :)
Yes BB, it was the one you found. Since I didn't buy it he's decided to keep it as a winter bike so his new one stays shiny :) (sorry Darren!)

Indeed. Not sure how efficient that blower is, but have to admire the skill of the build and the ingenuity of the builder.
Yep, still got eyes and ears open :) Heard of a couple of interesting ones but not bought one yet.
I know of a GPZ500 going cheap, but it's a bit tatty and is in Oswestry, so maybe a bit far to go.

There is a CB500 for sale by the bloke along by Phoenix who usually has a bike out the front? Think he wants £995 for it?
Might have been that one I went to see on Saturday - it was sold!
He did let me sit on it though, so I could discover that I wasn't comfortable ::) I'm also beginning to lean more towards a faired bike - a CBR600 or a GPZ500 as suggested by Nooj. Insurance is a bit more, but nothing like as bad as I expected 8-)
Don't know what your budget is, but what about a Versys? You're legs are long enough for it, being a newer bike it'll handle far far better than any of the old 500cc things you've been looking at and it shouldn't be too much of a loss of power restricting it to 33bhp.

I'd get a CB500 over a ER, GS or GPZ 500... they are better bikes in most respects.
