View Full Version : Free go for novices... Sunday 25th September.

We are thinking of having a day at the school where novices can come and have a go on a 125 for an hour at a time, free of charge. The idea being that we schedule one hour slots, and someone who has never ridden before can come and have a go without forking out for a CBT, just to see whether they like it or not. We can supply helmets and gloves, but would recommend at least jacket and jeans. Question is, to make it worthwhile, is there enough folks out there who would be interested? So that's what we're asking you all to do. If you all wouldn't mind putting the word about, and just see how many people would show an interest. Stick up any possibilities on here, and we can see if it's got legs. Thanks to you all in anticipation. [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

Ok folks, we're going to do Sunday 25th. It'll be at Clarendon College, Frome Road, Trowbridge, BA14 0DJ. We have to limit this to anyone who is of riding age, and has a provisional licence(which you should bring with you). If you'd like to put your name down, and a preferred time, starting from 9.00am and going up to 4.00pm. So add your name to a list, and we'll come back with time slots for everyone. Would I be right in assuming the training bike is something like a CG125..?

Fair play to you Mark for a great idea - with all the negative proposed legislation in the pipeline, anything that encourages keeping biking alive is to be welcomed. [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

Thanks Ken, but I can't take all the credit. Years ago at CSM we used to do something similar. The man who came up with the idea was one Mike Loydall. He is now the guy promoting the 'Get On' campaign. All we're doing is making a day of it.
We're hoping to have a couple of displays from local dealers, and a burger van for food and drinks. So anyone wanting to pop in for a sociable chat is welcome... :)

I can sort a few brochures, but nothing advertising the free introduction. If it's a success, we'll be more organised next time... ;)

I realise the protests are the same day, but everyone is welcome either before or after the protests, to stop off for coffee/tea/brunch/lunch/afternoon tea, or all of the above. Those having a free session will be out of sight. Sorry, but no spectators... [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

After getting the afternoon off work to come and join you lot it sounded like it was quite successful!
Big thank you to mark and Lee for letting me take the 500 out on the road!it was awesome ;D definitely need to get myself a bigger bike sooner rather than later :P

Thank you all who attended and made it a good day. We'll try and organise something when protests aren't taking place next time. Look out next spring for the bigger and improved version of the 'Able Motorcycle Training Open Day'. We're going to go for something much bigger, with some 'bike orientated' entertainment during the day. Thanks again... [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

Yep, we've had a few bookings, and loads who are dead keen. Couple of people showed an interest in Phoenix's XJ6, and lots of people ate burgers. The next one is going to be much bigger... 8-)
