Supporting bike on axle stands

Just off to get some axles stands at lunchtime to support the bike while I take off the rear shock to send it off for a service.

Is it ok to just support it under the base of the frame, or will I need to get a bar to run through the swingarm pivots and support the bike on that?

I'd look at using the swing arm pivots as these can take the weight.... depends on whats stable.
