Do you need a special licence for a minibus? Does a car one cover you up til so-many people??

Maria
21-10-11, 09:53 PM
dont quote me, but would it not be the same as hireing a van?

Lou

If you have an older licence there is an entitlement for mini buses and up to 7.5t vehicles, which wont be present on newer licences.

I think somewhere about on this site we have our very own BUS driver ;) ;)

Haww! Haww! Haww! Eh Kev ??

For a 7 seater minibus you can drive it on a cat B... your car license , for a 16 seater mnibus you need Catagory D1 ... limitations state not for hire or reward, so if you are just driving it for your mates or yourself you can drive it. Most old buggers have it as standard, most new drivers don't even get catagory E (trailers) automatically anymore ... DVLA making even more money off people

Im an old bugga hehe........found out all about the stupid rules with the D1 thing when trying to drive the minibus for our disabled residents...bloody stupid....even us with the D1 couldnt take the residents out 'cos they paid their mileage etc....bloody rubbish.

I am willing to drive the minibus if necessary ( i dont tend to drop minibuses at the same rate I drop bikes by the way hehehe)...Kev said he would too but he doesnt know his shifts yet......but we havent booked tickets....can you buy them on the day??

:D :D :D

I'm an old bugger - so I have this entitlement on my license (and I have used it on several occasions)

22-10-11, 08:57 PM
Dilemma... First weekend or last? Last weekend you usually get loads of cheap stuff, especially on the last day where they sell stuff for like £2.37 coz they cant be arsed to load it in thew truck and take it back home again.

Trouble is all the "normal" sizes went days ago and you are left with tat in XXS and XXL. :D ;D

Beamer
22-10-11, 08:59 PM
If theres enough wanting to go then maybe two buses could be organised maybe ??

Being a greerally anti-social bu**er and due to other committmemts I tend to go during the week when it's quieter.

But the mini bus and get pi**ed idea is a good'un. Used to take the train and get pi**ed, am looking into advanced tickets!!! :D

If not working, I'll probably go up one day during the week, possibly Wednesday 23rd Nov.

I'll confirm that date nearer the time ( if I'm defo still not in employment)

If I do go up that day, happy to take a couple of others up with me in car..... (contribution to petrol costs would be good !!)

PM me in a few weeks time if interested in a mid-week trip up. :)

I'm getting tempted to take a day off work as I have not been to this show for 30 years! Plus I got my old Previa back on the road which can take 8 adults (only does 24mpg though). Will have to see what days I can take off :)

Went up Sunday. Surprised it was quite quiet. Nice seeing Morgan, Metisse and Norton. Metisse bikes look like they could be interesting when finished properly (have a look at the mess of wiring between the two exhaust pipes :o)

japs didn't really do a lot for me as nothing that I would fancy new. Ducati's all looked the same, Victory's nice if too Harlyish.

Specials looked good, but most use Harley engines, did take a few pictures of the English/Jap engined ones though. Whoever thought of putting a Harley engine in a Norton featherbed frame should be hung, drawn and quartered >:(

Overall a good way to spend a Sunday

Well we were pretty disappointed - the show was very small compared to previous years, no decent bargains other than mis-matched kit and the george whites stand was about a 5th of the size of last year. Didn't spend anything :/

The motox stunt show was good tho!

Odd.... I found a few bargains. Took a bit of hunting tho... got the new gloves I needed.

The show was small, but compact. Plenty to see. Some interesting bikes there. Liked the Ducati Diavel and the Aprillia Mana.

Went yesterday and it was deffinately lacking in some areas. No Harris, not as many race bikes as the last couple of years, nobody was giving anything away appart from the odd poster and as for the lycra clad promo girls, wouldn't give you tuppence for 'em. The shoe shiners and Mr anti fog wax wern't there either so that was a bonus.

However, bargain galore on some stands. Picked up a pair of kevlar Jeans for £50, J+S are doing BKS leathers for £199! There were loads of boots and helmets too. If you need some gear then go, if you're hoping to see some all new metal, forget it. They all look identical to the bikes they were doing 2 years ago. Even the 1199 looks similar to it's predecessor.

Saw those. Looked good. The Shoe shines were there, just tucked away in a corner. Best place.

Harris were there, it was just a smaller than normal stand.

Like you I thought the big bikes were, on the whole a dissapointment. The new stuff was in the small bike and scooter parts.

Just hope to see some nice sports bikes I can't afford and have a general look see. Maybe some new gloves if there are some "exta special almost give them away for nothing and by a lycra clad lady too" bargains to be had ;D
