bike alarm

im considering one, i primarly need it for if anyone tries to move the bike, my only concern is not having the facilty to trickle charge the battery, so need one of these low drain thingy alarms,and something thats not going to go off when the wind blows, and is there such a thing as an alarm you can completely turn off if needed!!

I hate mine (drives me mad >:() I assume its a factory fit but you can set it to maintenance mode so that movement doesnt set it off.

It will drain the battery over a few weeks if its not plugged into an Optimiser.

I've considered many times having it removed but havent got around to it.

Personally if I had a bike without one I wouldnt waste my money....maybe no one would nick my bike though...famous last words!!

An alarm won't stop them weeling it into a van. I'd save the money and get a decent disc lock.

cheers guys, i was sorta given that impression about alarms,

re the disc locks, i got two on the bike, and quite a decent oxform storm cover which the locks bolt over then onto the discs , so got one back and front,

is there any decent disc locks that will hold out more than any other, one is a oxford lock, not sure about the other, but got it with the bike, so sorta thinking might need to replace that one!!!!

p.s actually thinknig about it, i had an alarm on my 01 fazer and that did my head in as well, so bugger it, lol

I have alarms on both of mine but I can at least choose whether they are set or not. The immobiliser is always set though.

If I was to choose an option now I would go for a heavy duty chain with a good lock, fixed through the chassis and around another unmoveable object with the chain off the ground to help prevent it being cut. I would keep the alarm as well though but maybe I have been lucky and never had an issues. I have a Meta on one bike and the BMW OEM on the other.

just to clarify it doesnt have alarm,
re the chain, i only have to options, chain it round the block of flats its parked next to, or my car! and i know striaght away how the latter will end!!!

your not ex sas are you :) lol re the baby monitor that sounds like a good idea!! wonder what the range is, bike is about 40 ft away, i can just pic up the wifi from where it is

to be honest i dont do a lot of travelling where id need it protected over night, and as the car is in the same parking space i can stick all the locks in the back when i go for a blast, and if someone wantsis that bad, they'll have it,

Either way, i would go for a decent chain and lock, like Almax http://www.almax-security-chains.co.uk/index.asp?pg=29 and then get a plastic barrel, cut it in half, fill it with concrete and bury a ground anchor in it, chain to that and get a decent alarm.

Would never have another alarm on my bike (not that its worth nicking) had nothing but trouble, was for ever running the battery flat and would go off for no apparent reason.

I've had a Krank Alarm Mine for years - brilliant bit of kit. They used to be available with a pressure plate. (didn't bother to look if they still are)

Very spectacular when used with a balloon filled with petrol ;)
