Evening....

just wondering if anyone here is into chops/bobbers? just fancy having someone to share ideas, etc...

Had a bobber years ago, but was a VN and what I really wanted was a harley.. not that I like harleys, but I like the engines!

So, after a few years looking for one with the right engine and in project mode, Monday I finally bought her! 1979 Ironhead Harley....

got her home and put a few bits on and took a pic...
there's loads to do, but its supposed to be a long term project anyway.
Electrics, brackets, mudguards, etc, etc..

anyone into this kind of thing?

hell yeah im into them, looks like a nice start.
what sort of thing you looking to do with the beast ?

Like you Im not into the Harleys much but it would be a challenge to make it different and not the normal sort of thing.
Personal the older you can make it look the better/ more attention it will draw (if thats what you want)

It does look very good, just not into Harley anything. I would scrap the ape hangers though as we are not Americans ;D

Harley looks good!

I built the CD200 below as a bit of a practice for the real thing. Have an XS650 now that's about to get the chop. I love the old basic bobber look and cant wait to get stuck into this one.

Hooooo.. that's a nice CD200!!

I'm not too sure where to go with this... I like the Apes, but also like flat bars, used to have a Drifter years ago and it had wide flat bars.. i think its going to be a case of welding some tube together and try it out to see how it feels...

The Apes are different though, as not many people ride around with Apes here, still you do see a few at rallies..
not keen on the bars that look like they've come out of an old pushbike though

its going to be a bobber, short mudguards close to the tyre, retro-look, etc....
might even get rid of the electric start and change to kick-start for that real retro feel

cant wait to really start on her... have a loads of bits that came with her to sort first and find room on the shelfs in the garage to put them on.
then is putting the bike on the lift and start playing around

Ditched most of the electrics on the CD. Couldn't hide the battery anywhere on such a small frame so just run the engine on the CDI unit which i hid in the headlight. I'm planning to hide it all in a fake oil tank on the XS. Might splash out on some springer forks and wire in a hub rather than disc on the front wheel just to make it look older.

Got to build a shed to work in first though.

Got a mate in Andover who builds XS650 bobs and flat trackers. Not really into the 'old' bike thing, but they can look nice when done properly, the more minimalist the better for me. A knucklehead Harley motor would look nice in one.
